EFGT LET ME SHARE WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

Thank You for your time and I hope that I can help you in some way. Let me start by saying I believe in Eat Fat Get Thin. I have 20+ years of dieting to help make me a true believer of this life style and what it does. I have always been obese, even as a child. I was 180lbs at 12 and 304 by 16. I went on a calorie reducing diet and got to 249, but within 2 years I was over 350. I finally found myself at 29 and over 500. I hated my life so much. I drank, smoked, and did much worse because of my pain. I finally made a choice that I was going to change my life and never go back. I got a gym membership, quit drinking and smoking, started Body for Life diet, and in general changed my whole outlook on life. I got my bench press over 400lbs I was able to run several mile at one time, not bad for a guy who was about 355 lbs. I lost over 140lbs in about a year. I felt great and I was a changed man. Then something happened, something that I now know was always going to happen. I started to eat more and then I started to work out less. I got tired of going to the gym and never getting to eat good food, I gave in to what I really wanted to do. I had battled my will power for almost 2 years and it finally set me strait on who is running the show. I put back on over 100lbs to get to 467. I then tried to do the atkin diet and lost some water weight and then nothing. I got a gym membership and started to work out again. Then something happened to me I will never forget, I gave up. That's right I gave up on dieting and exercise and the whole nine yards. I had killed myself for years trying to diet and exercise and while it worked temporarily it had no long term prospect of winning. If you don't believe me take a close look at the Biggest Loser contestants. They all gain back if they don't continue the 4 hours a day of exercise and the 1200 calorie diet. I know some would say suck it up and just do it. However, lets be clear here, all those people are going to give in to there true desire at some point. It may be 2 months or 20 years, but they will go back to there true ways eventually. How would that feel to be 400 and go to 200 for 4 years and get back to 400 again. I can't imagine the pain and suffering of these poor people. I at this point know 2 things

1. DIETS AND EXERCISE DO NOT CURE THE OBESITY PROBLEM
2. DOING THE SAME THING AND EXPECTING A NEW RESULT IS INSANE.

This is where EFGT came into my life and I finally found a sense of truth in my life. I want to share what to this point has been nothing short of a miracle in my life. I know you are wanting me to tell you I weight 200 know or that I lost 100lbs in 10 weeks but that is not what has happened or where I'm at. Truth is at this moment I weigh 445 and It has been about 22lbs in 5 weeks. But here is the thing and its a big thing. I besides going to a gym for weight training maybe once or twice a week for 20-25min, and I take good rest between sets, have done no exercise. I sit in front of a computer all day and with winter I don't even get outside much. I am eating about 3000 cal on a low day and about 5-6k calories on a high day. What I am saying here is simple and I want everybody to be helped by this. So I have the following statements for all who come here.

1. WEIGHT LOSS IS ABOUT CHEMISTRY NOT PHYSICS
(its not calories its how our body deals with different foods)
2. EXERCISE HELPS FEW AND HURTS MOST
( most people exercise and eat more and then get lazy for the rest of the day
making the exercise a wash or may even put on weight - others that are dong a large amount of exercise will lose weight but have almost no chance of sustaining that exercise for long extended time periods i.e. 10 20 30 years)
3. PROTEIN CAN KEEP YOU FAT
(protein interrupts fat loss at a rate of 58% of calorie intake and has been shown to have an insulin response similar to that of a high carb meal)
4. EXTREME LOW CARB IS NOT REALISTIC FOR THE LONG RUN
(staying under 30 carbs is not going to cut it for the long run being in the 60-120 carb gives you the flexibility to eat more foods so you will have some freedom)
5. LEARN TO LOVE FAT
( eat bacon not ham, brisket over sirloin, spareribs over back, yolks over whites, heavy cream, sour cream, cream cheese, and tigers owe my! you need fat, fat, and more fat go moderate on protein and light on carbs get your veggies and some small amount of fruit when you have that big meal always look for the fat first a big dinner of polish sausage with some fried peppers and onion is better than a 20oz steak that is all protein)
6. GET EXERCISE THE RIGHT WAY
(forget the gym unless you love lifting weights as a hobby like me or you want to run a marathon or something similar for the thrill of it if you are exercising for weight loss DON'T BOTHER learn to keep busy and motivated in life mow the yard, park in the back of the parking lot, take the stairs, go the beach with the family, play in the yard with the kids or grand kids, go to the mall and walk around, go to the zoo, go the museum, go swimming, go camping, go hiking for fun, live life )
7. IN THE LONG RUN YOU CAN'T WIN WITH PHYSICS ONLY CHEMISTRY WILL SAVE YOU.
(eat 60-70% fat, 20-30% protein, and 10% carb be active and don't worry about the gym unless you love it because it won't help you loose and keep weight of in the long term it may take 10 years to get your weight off but you will keep it off forever with chemistry remember that person who uses physics will have lost it fast but will be heavier than you in that 10 year reunion YOU CAN'T LOOSE IN THE LONG RUN GUARANTEED! chemistry is like a casino in the end you have the odds on your side with EFGT if you create a situation where you can't store fat because of chemistry and you create a calorie deficit because of eating the right foods chemically you will loose in the long run it may take longer that the physics but physics is a GREAT BIG LIE!

no idea why you think 30 grams of carbs is too low to stick with. many of us go much lower than that for a long time and don't plan to change. I've been at 20 grams for nearly two years now... diabetes gives more impetus never to cheat, but the "chemistry" of ketosis is a miracle too.

some interesting points though.

Wow...what a great post. Thanks so much for sharing what you have learned along the way!

CarolynF 03-31-2011 11:55 AM

Barry would be proud of you..Have you got his new book, Natural Health and Weight Loss?
It is excellent.

I totally agree with you..I have never lost weight while exercising, but have maintained
my muscle and flexibility, but I don't kill myself.

I agree with you about the protein..Peeps don't need as much protein as they think they
do..Women probably should intake 60-75 grams a day.

Keep posting..We love to hear your progress.

Keep up your internal motivation. That's where its AT!

I can only speak for myself and only ask that others try this and see what results they have. I stopped Atkins and started EFGT. I doubled my carbs to about say 60 a day and I cut my protein by about 33% and increased my fat by about 150%. What I found was this, that by eating more carbs I could now eat many more foods than before. I also found that fat has a killer ability to keep you full that protein could not. My digestive heath is way better with more fat as well. I found that you can cheat from time to time with say a little bbq on your meat and because of less protein and more fat, it didn't stall me. I'm just saying people freak about to many carbs, but then eat crazy amounts of meat and are not losing weight. I bet they all would be shocked as I was that more carbs with less protein and alot more fat is a better approach. I know that the ability to have some grapefruit or an apple sometimes or maybe just more nuts or something is huge for me. I feel you can get away with more carbs but never over 100-120 for most.

Very thought-provoking post, thank you! You could be right, I think I might need to add more fat to my diet. It's been hard to turn around decades of low-fat indoctrination and eat fat freely!! Where's that vat of lard?? *grin*

CarolynF 04-05-2011 08:16 PM

We all had to recover from that "low fat" propaganda..:)

Keep posting, Mr...we love your updates.

I know it seems crazy, but fat is the way to go. You feel full for hours and hours and fat is so flavorful. Thanks for the post and good luck.

mrbiggs007 04-06-2011 07:45 AM

UPDATES: So It has been a good week so far down to 442. I was 445 seven days ago and actually hit 442 4 days ago and have plateaued here for a couple of days. I find that I will drop 3-4lbs in a couple of days and then stay there for a week or so and then drop again. I was active this week, but I hurt my thumb and couldn't do my workout this week. I went out last Saturday night and went to an all you can eat cheeseburger place and had 4 with bacon dipped in mayo(without bread off course) and had a monster salad with gobs of blue cheese on it. I didn't exercise intensely at all and I ate a 6000 calorie meal one night and still lost 3 for the week. I'm not bragging here, I am testifying.

We need to get the word out to people about the lies told to obese people.

There are people out there starving themselves and beating themselves up about being fat, and they just can't lose weight.

They may be told about low carb, but that is really just another lie in disguise.

FAT is the food they need. You have to love the irony of it all, but its true.

CarolynF 04-06-2011 09:18 AM

Wow..you are doing so well..Guys can eat so much more than women..I know Jimmy Moore used to eat lots of fat and food and lost a bunch of weight

440 on the dot. I can't wait to get into the 430's. I wanted to comment today about scales. I went years hiding from scales, and I believe it was a major factor in my obesity. I know get on the scale 3-4 times a week and it is great. I know that so many obese people dred the scale, but it really helps keep you focused on what is happening. I also have learned that I am someone who at first holds weight and after about a month begins to loose. This is important because so many want instant results, but for some of us that is not going to be the case. I think that scales are a very powerful tool for us in our programs. I know for example that diet pop doesn't make me retain weight because of the scale. That is great knowledge to have.

Aediekins 04-12-2011 11:53 AM

Way to go on your loss! I agree with you on the scales. I weigh in every morning. It helps to see if what I'm doing is working.

CarolynF 04-12-2011 01:48 PM

I totally agree with you..Weighing keeps me on target and I weigh mostly every day.

When I was "fatter", I didn't weigh..LOL..and kept gaining.

This is a dumb question.... I would assume if I read the statement "eat more fat", I would eat fattier meat... Which is protein... So what do you eat for fat if it's not meat? *confused* I eat A LOT of meat.

Yes eating meats such as corned beef rather than say chicken assuming you eat the same volume of food should contain more fat by percentage. The idea is to eat foods like bacon, polish sausage, and cheese rather than things like ham, steak, and chicken which are low fat. Foods like heavy cream, nuts, and cheese have less protein but are mostly fat.

Rebecca1979 04-13-2011 02:08 PM

Ohh Well I do that anyway =D

Aediekins 04-13-2011 07:48 PM

I would be careful about eating too much bacon and polish sausage. Those are processed foods. Dark meat chicken, rib-eye and chuck cuts have loads of fat and are more natural. Then you just cook them in butter, cream or oils, and you've got a lovely, fatty meal.
