How to figure my percentages
Ok, I have read the posts on how to figure out how many grams of protein to consume, but I still dont get it.

Maybe someone can help me?

I am a female and weigh in at 245 currently.

Can someone tell me how many grams of protein I should be aiming for?

Also, on Atkins I found I had to stay at 20 grams of carbs or less per day to lose.
Is this the experience of people on this way of eating? It doesnt allow for much variation.

Lisa, the best thing to do is to start out small...like 20 and see how it goes.

Most women shouldn't eat more than 90 grams of protein a day. So, you could aim for that and see what happens, especially if your carbs are low.

As you lose, you probably need to cut back on the protein, but never go lower than

There are formulas for lean body weight, which is what we use to figure out the protein grams..If you are tall, then your lean body weight will be more than a short person..

I am around 5 3 and my lean body weight is around 95-100..So, I multiply that by .6 and that gives me 60 grams..but I can go higher if I am exercising..70 or so.

Wow, a chicken breast takes up the larger percentage of my protein for a day?
Eeeeeekkk..I am suprised at how fast it adds up.

thanks for the response,

Did you use ****** - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal That really gives you the picture of how much protein is in something and how much fat..Basic rule is 4 ounces of pure protein is 28 grams of protein.

One egg has 7 grams of protein and fat.

so if my lean body weight is 151 multipy by .6 I get 90.6 so that would be my dailey alottment correct? Didnt mean to butt into the conversation I am just trying to get this correct, I will also plug into ******. Thanks!

Dear Stephanie..

You are rather tall, Stephanie..You must have alot of muscle if you have a lean body weight of 151..But 90 would probably be a good amount of protein for you..:)

Well I went to the lean body weight calculator online actually 2 of them and both gave me different answers. I got the 151 and then 123??? So if my current weight at 5 ft 10 is 178/2.2=80.9 kg so then do I multiply that by 1 or 1.5??? I have read so many great posts on here about how to calculate protein that I think I have totally confused myself!! lololo

Thanks for all the help!!

PS..The calculator I used for lean body weight calculator was Medindia.net after I put in that I was female and 5 ft 10 the calculation was Lean Body Weight is = 68.5 Kgs (151.04 Pounds)

=68.5 kg or 151.04 lbs So if I multiply by 1 I get 68.5 or 68.5 x1.5=102.75 so with that calculator my protein would be between 68-102

Now a different site I used asked for height and weight but was calculations for lean body mass ( is that different than lean body weight) but that came out to 123.4 lbs which is 56 kgs . 56x1=56 or 56x1.5=84 so here 56-84protein I thouht maybe just aim for 75-85 then I would be within both ranges hahahah :stars:

So which one would be best to calculate protein!!! Sorry I am new and being a pain in the butt already!!! I want to get this right. It seems when I low carb and high protein it works...to a point but I wonder if I have been over eating the protein and may be stalling out...
