Hi everyone..

Exercised twice...and did a WWagon call on a very nice lady with 2 puggles and a cute little boy. Her dh works for Amazon and they are from Seattle, so it is a big culture shock here..

Tomorrow is my women's retreat in Branson..We all have to bring breakie so I'm hard boiling eggs and making some of LindaSue's orange pecan muffins. I'll bring my own
hwc for coffee.. Then the rest of the meals are OUT..

Bright: I'm glad you have a good doctor..They are a blessing aren't they? Good luck..You sound like you are in control of your plan..

Cindy: Gosh...sorry about your explosion.. I think that's why there are 8 servings in a box..LOL.

Sandy: How's your dad getting along???

Yes, we miss our MKay..

How is your day going Buffy?

What kind of percentages? How much protein?
Hi Cindy,
I have never been a person interested in sports,
I am not now and do not care to be.
I am also one of those people who believe that
weight-loss/maintenance = food intake;
exercise = fitness;
nutrition = health.

I do about an hour of low-impact exercise a day,
mostly walking, and a bit of light Strength Training 2 to 3 times a week.
I do this for the psychological benefit, for energy, and suppleness.
I feel exercise has very little to do with losing weight.
That is a food issue.

According to some BodyBuilding Experts who have gained my respect,
1 pound of muscle burns about 5 extra calories, not 50 as is commonly believed.
These Experts also say that Muscle isn't actually Built. It is already there,
Mainly it just shrinks or swells, depending on how much its stressed.
Exercise like weight-lifting etc, operates like a Balloon,
damaging it, causing it to swell and hold more water, and therefore
is bigger and stronger.
Without drugs like Steroids etc, a person's ability to put on muscle is limited to one's height and stature,
so someone like me ...especially at my age...doesn't have the ability to alter muscle mass greatly.
I feel attempting that would do very little for me, and building muscle,
or reducing my body fat % by building muscle, is not one of my goals.

Regarding my food intake.
Over the past 4 years I have experimented with a great deal of food plans,
while, at the same time, counting calories and recording my food.
I have never much liked Low Carb Plans, and have seldom done them
This is the first time I've ever chosen to do a Hi-Fat/ Low-Carb plan.
I'm now on day 4.

According to my personal data for the past year,
my daily averages for the year were:
Protein 48 g,
Fat 40 g,
Carbs 108 g,
which is a ratio of : Protein 20% / Fat 36% / Carbs 44 %.

My focus has always been on getting sufficient Protein.
I didn't deliberately attempt to keep my carbs low,
it is simply that after I got in my Protein RDA,
(which is for me, per Barry Groves formula, about 48 grams)
there weren't enough calories left for more carbs.

Right now, ...for the past 4 days...I'm trying for a Ratio of:
Protein 20-30% / Fat 60-70% / Carbs 10-15%
which is what I understand is the EatFatGetThin recommendation.
In the past 3 days I already dropped about 6 lbs of salt/water/waste weight,
and I expect an even larger water loss,
but if I can stick with the diet long enough, perhaps it will do something to also cause a fat loss.

Normally when I've done a strict low-carb plan for about 2 weeks,
I'll lose approx 10 lbs, but when I re-introduce carbs without additional calories,
within a week or two I regain about 9 of those lbs.

Hopefully, the hi-fat componet will make it easier to stick with lo-carb.

I just have to say BrightAngel, you probably have kept better track of your efforts than certainly anyone I have known of, I think from what you have written that you have studied it, your have experienced what works for you and you certainly know your body and what it takes to maintain your weight. My hat is off to you for all your hard work, study and diligence. Good luck with the Eat Fat Get Thin plan. Keep up the good work.

Hey eveyone else, I have bright pink fingers and toes, it was a relaxing day! Yay!

Tomorrow is work in the office day! Tonight I have DGS 10, whom I am about to take to his house to put him to bed and stay until his parents get home from a hockey game.

Night all.

Buffy, Thank you so very much.
This morning is my 5th day on the EatFatGetThin plan,
and so far I'm doing very well.
My goal is to stay on it for a 2 week period,
and then analyze my Efforts, Results, Feelings before a recommittment.
I tend to do better with short-term goals.

I'm actually pretty excited to find a diet/food plan that I HAVEN'T tried before.
I know my EFGT book is in the mail on its way to me,
and I am eagerly awaiting its arrival.
In the meantime, I'm reading these Theads, and the 2nd opinion Threads.
I've already read all of the book that Amazon will allow me to do.

My doctor gave me (or sold me..) Diaxinol, which is pretty pricey, but I found it cheaper on line..She told me to take one pill with a meal, but I have been taking one with my lunch and one with my dinner..It has a bunch of stuff in it that is supposed to lower your blood sugar naturally. She said chronium picolate was good as well..There is some in the Diaxinol.

I need to find my son's graduation picture link.. for you to see..

Hey, I was 147 this morning..of course, have a 3 day women's retreat to go to..I made some of Linda's orange pecan muffins to take..and some hard boiled eggs, which I left in the shell because they stink otherwise..

Here is the picture we picked..Brett has been experimenting with his own hair.. http://kstatephoto.zenfolio.com/p524027975/e3c6f372c

What a fine looking young man!

Your women's retreat sounds like a lot of fun. Branson should be really nice this time of year. Where is the retreat being held? DH and I went to a couples weekend down there one time and it was really nice. It was like Marriage Encounter but I don't think it was called that. It's been about 20 years ago, lol. I'm surprised I even remember it, at my age, lol.

You're doing great with your weight! I do fine until Friday night. I really need to work on my weekend resolve.

Oh Carolyn, how handsome he has become! Wow, love the picture and his hair.

And your weight, it is wonderful how you have broken through that stubborn plateau you were on this winter. Be very very strong at your retreat, you are doing so good.

BrightAngel, if you knew me like the rest of the gals here, and Gord, I am the world's worst at sticking to anything, that is why I am heavier than all my peeps on here, but, I am to the age I don't think much will change now. I have lost weight since I found out I had type 2 diabetes and got on meds to control that. Before that it was a losing battle and I think that is why I lost my will power, no matter how hard I tried, I just could not budge the lbs and they kept getting higher and higher. Getting my blood sugar under control made such a huge difference. I could white knuckle it and control it with low carb alone at this point but I have to admit, although I did that for a few months, my inner brat rebelled and talked me into taking the meds and relaxing and enjoying life. I am weak but happy.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Buffy,
It's great that you're happy
...but..."weak" like ill?
or "weak" like a negative value judgment?
I hope my former comments on this Thread didn't indicate
that I think it is wrong for people to take prescription medication which is necessary or helpful for them.
I just meant that, PERSONALLY, I don't need or choose to take medication,
BECAUSE it isn't necessary for ME, and wouldn't be helpful to ME.

BrightAngel, no, no, not weak as in ill, I just meant lack of will power. Wasn't a serious statement anyway, just me rambling on. I did not take any of your comments the wrong way, truly. I really enjoyed you telling us about how you have handled your weight loss and maintained it.

Morning everyone! It has been beautiful here in TX although a bit windy. Everything is getting green and pretty and a great time of year to be outside. DH has planted some new shrubs and last night we enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio.

Off to do a little shopping today, then DGS 10 is coming to spend the night.

Bright, you never have to tip toe around here. We all kinda have something different going on and like to hear what works for others.

Gord, good to see ya! Your BP looks great! That's what mine runs.

Went to a big local nursery here with the intent of looking at mulch. $185 later, and no mulch, I think I have most of my veggies for my garden. Not all of that was veggies, 1/2 was flowers. I bought 14 tomato plants, all different varieties and colors, 3 poblano pepper plants (you make Mexican verde sauce with those), a couple of eggplants, a japaleno, a cilantro (can you see a Mexican theme!!) 4 bell peppers (a purple (!), red, yellow and orange) of course, a catnip and a cat grass! I have a total of 9 of those huge pots from Costco and a few smaller and thats what everything is going in on our back deck as that is the only place we get sun! I know it's early but it's SO nice.......

Flower wise, I beefed up my Iris and Daylilies. I need a lot more for pots.

Hi Gord, glad to hear you are feeling better. And, your BS and BP sound like you are doing very well there also. Good boy!!! :-)

Cindy, your garden sounds delightful!

Poor DGS 10, he has really bad allergies and wow, have they kicked in, full force. He was up until almost midnight, once he tried to lay down and go to sleep, he could not quit coughing. finally gave him some stronger cough meds and he got to sleep.

Good morning everyone.
Today I'm beginning Day 7 of EatFat, Get Thin.
My book hasn't arrived yet.

Do any of you have any GREAT Hi-Fat, Low-carb reciepes you'd like to share?
Or is there a special place I could go to find some?
Heads up: I'm not into "Healthy" , "Organic" or Exotic cooking.
My style is more Southern Style, and I like the "down home" type of cooking,
but not veggies like Greens, Black-eyed peas and stuff like that.
Also I like Splenda and plan to continue using it frequently.

Hi Marie, I'm glad you found your way back here. I've only read the original e-book but hear that they're both pretty much the same. I think Carolyn said the new one goes into more detail? She's out of town and will chime in when she returns. Really I think most of what you really need to know is in the sticky about it. Good luck with this.

BrightAngel, I don't really have recipes, per se. I just eat basic foods. When I'm being good and on plan that is. Lately, I haven't been following as closely as I should be.

That is what I am trying to do...eat basic foods. I have copied down a few recipes for simple stuff on some of the threads I have read. I made sure I still know my ****** screen name and password so I can check out and see how I am doing with my percentages. I am ready to go I think.

Hi..

Had a great weekend in Branson with my church ladies..We stayed in the most beautiful condos..Thousand Hills..has a golf course, swimming pools, etc..The group rate was $119, but it would be more for regular peeps, but 2 couples could certainly split it..

I was pretty good, but still up a pound today..

Gord: Yippeee....on seeing your doctor in the store. It's interesting that your lower blood sugar also lowered your blood pressure, huh?

I love the new book..Natural Health and Weight Loss..

Welcome back, Marie..basic foods are best for sure.. Glad to have you.

Bright: There is a fantastic Recipe Room on this board if you are not familiar with it..
Tons and tons of recipes..Plus the Recipe Bulletin Board has current recipes everyone is experimenting with. Greens are great, but black-eyed peas have to be eaten in moderation for some folks. But, everyone is diiferent..

Buffy: Allergies are bad right now as the trees are coming out, etc...

MK: I'm proud of your garden..Need to head to the nursery for some outside ferns..
Plus, my little tree garden has lots of things I never saw before pop up..Where did those things come from? LOL.

Sandy and Cindy: This is great KS weather..Wish it would stay like this..

Off to exercise..I need it. bad.

Thanks for the compliments on Brett's picture.. They had 5 choices and this was the best one of the 5..

Morning peeps.
Carolyn, would Linda Sue's recipes be a good source? I would have to go dig for her website but her recipes are good ones. Figured you might have it at your finger tips.

Was Thousand Hills built in the last 15 years or so? If so, our company worked on the greens there, a beautiful site to build a golf course on but very difficult for the builder due to all the rock they had to blast through.

Welcome back Marie.

Going to try to stay home today and work in the office and get some flowers planted on the patio later today. DSIL had some leftover red petunias that he didn't want, so although they don't last long in TX, I thought I would get some short term color and enjoyment out of them.

Good morning all good to see you back Caroline. Not sure if lower BP is due to LC diet or the 3 BP meds i am on glad she says go ahead and quit taking 1 of them and see what it dose. Fasting BS this morning was 7.6==138 still a lot higher than it should be but i have noticed if i eat VLC I can keep BS at 2 Hrs after eating around 6.5 ==118 a lot better than it was but room for improvement hoping the Metformin well help with that? Well i am off to Dr have a great day
