I'll have to ask if it's slow release. I feel like just giving up on it totally! I think the whole shortage thing is a giant scam anyway.
I answered the kids' questions with mostly true answers. Lol. I didn't want to scar them with some of the details of reality which wasn't important to their project anyway. My DGD said she wants to write my life story someday. I told her to please do it while I'm still alive as I'd like to have final approval on who plays me in the movies, lololol. Seriously though, I do think my life story would make a good movie. My biological grandma always thought so too. May she rest in peace.

Hi all. Well, the path report was as I thought. A grade 4 glioblastoma, the most aggressive and fastest growing cancer of the brain there is. He said most live 6-12 months with treatment although he felt she would probably do better since she was young. I have seen many on the net do much better. I have started posting on a message board called Cancer Compass that i would recommend to anyone with a loved one with cancer as they deal with all types, not just brain cancer. She has already been put into a trial drug group along with conventional treatment which is really the gold standard so I am hopeful.
All right, I have decided to actually talk about something other than cancer now. I get my thyroid panel in the am. We will see how the 25 mcgs of Cytomel are doing. Had a good lunch today: Shiratakei noodles with shrimp and Costco's pesto sauce which is fab! Very easy and tasty. Also did half of a leg of lamb with a whole head of garlic in it. I make the taziki with Greek yogurt and use the low carb pitas from Netrition. Good stuff! At least for me as BF still doesn't like lamb! |

Morning!
I think I'll walk today! It's not that cold and finally not raining! Got a call from Mom's place yesterday. They did a 30 day evaluation and she's going to need more services. I don't think they'll cost more at this point though. Cindy - that sounds really hopeful! ![]() |

Cindy, yes, that does sound hopeful and I'm sure being young and having so much to live for will make a giant difference for your friend. I'll keep her on my prayer list.
Did you ever say if she had symptoms? Or what made her go to the Dr. in the first place? I'm not being nosey, I know 2 family members who have had episodes with their brain, so I'm curious. MK, it sounds like your mom is in a good place now that will get her the treatment she needs as she needs it. What a comfort for you to know that she's well taken care of. I'm glad this place is working out well. Please pray for my oldest DGD. She's been sick for about 5 weeks now. She had a CT scan last week and is having upper and lower scopes tomorrow. They thought she might have Crohn's disease but seem to have ruled that out since the CT scan and aren't making any more predictions at this time what it could be. So, please if you could, remember her in your prayers. Thank you. |

Hi gals and Gord..
I, too thought that the Armour thing was rather funky, but it appears that they changed the formula and it wasn't working for the people, so they stopped making it until they can get the formula fixed and approved...Don't give up..I think that synthetics are fine, too as long as you have both T4 and T3 and you find a balance that works for you, Sandy...Prayers for your dgd in hopes they will find out what is wrong..Good thing it wasn't Crohns..Maybe it is just something temporary..even though 5 weeks is a very long time. MKay: Thank God for 30 day evaluations..It sounds like a great place and they can provide the services right there and she won't have to be moved, except to downstairs, which is a good thing.. Cindy: Yes, we are very hopeful for your dear friend. Keep us posted.. I'm with your dbf..I can't do lamb.. but I'm glad you enjoyed it and I love the sauce and pita part..When's Buffy coming home?? How is our Gord doing??

And, we walked and walked and walked so I actually came home a lb lighter!! More later, there was lots of news from your posts that I need to comment on. Prayers for the ones with health problems. ![]() ![]()

Just got lab results from last Dr. visit, here is my thyroid test results. I do not know how to interpret but did they do the right tests? Dr. says to keep meds the same.
T4 T-4 13.5 H ug/dl 4.5-12.5 T3U T-3 Uptake 32.2 % 25-35 TSH TSH 0.12 L uIU/ml 0.30-4.50 T7 T-7 (FTI) 4.35 H 1.20-4.30 This is all so confusing to me, but along with dealing with my high blood pressure, the diabetes and the malformations in my brain, as long as the doctor says this is ok, I guess I am ok with it. Overall, since getting on diabetes meds, I do feel pretty ok, not as great as I would like but I am also not 35 anymore. |

I'm new here and have a question. I started eating high-fat, low-carb the begining of October. I eat according to the recommendation - high fat, consisting of organic dairy & eggs, oils and avocado. I eat a moderate amount of organic meat, fish and poultry and eat green veggies - no starchy veggies, no fruit, no grains, no sugars.
So far, I have not lost a pound nor have my clothes loosened. I am quite discouraged and wonder if anyone can help me figure out what I am doing wrong. I don't count calories, but eat until satisfied - sometimes that's quite a bit and other times not much at all. I'm not craving sweets anymore but still want lots to eat at times. I know my body must be burning fat for fuel now because it's not had sugars for almost a month. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I am not getting results? Thank you! Pam |

PAM, welcome to the boards. IMO, at least for me, calories do count. Have you gotten on a program called ******.com? I live by ******. I don't know what you weigh but i would start at 1500 calories and go from there. My first thought is it is real easy for the calories to rack up with a lot of fat and many of us here have to reign it in a bit. Plug in a day on ****** (you may have to weigh and measure) and see what your totals are.

Thank you for your reply, Cindy. I have not used ******.com. I actually hate the idea of weighing, measuring and recording everything I eat. I thought this was a plan that made that not necessary. To me, that's not a doable longterm lifestyle but another diet plan. I guess I'll record a few days on ****** and see how it comes out.
Another thing that makes it hard for me is that I cook most everything from scratch. Recipe modifications, etc. - makes it hard and time consuming to figure out calories. How do the rest of you handle this? Pam Last edited by Pamselt; 10-28-2009 at 08:01 PM.. |

Hi everyone and welcome back Buffy.. and welcome Pam..
Good thoughts, Cindy. Pam: Calories do count..(unfortunately)..All of us know this and most of us adjust our portions. You do need to get a cheap scale at Wallie and weigh your meat/chicken. It's a big wakeup call for all of us. The thing about any highfat plan is the fat is supposed to fill us up so we don't have the cravings for the bad carbs. It sounds like you have the "food" under control as far as type is concerned, but watch the amounts consistently. I think you can aim for 1500 and see what happens.. Buffy: I think Pam would say that you needed a Free T3, too..PM her with your results and see what she thinks..She gets it.. Hi to everyone..Off to "work" at the ticket booth all day..This is our big Neewollah festival where the downtown area is FULL of food booths..........But, there are LC selections..like Turkey Legs, etc..brats, great burgers, etc..and of course, fried pickles and candy bars.. |

Actually, my meat portions are not my problem. I have done HCG in the past and am very aware of the size of a 3.5 - 4.0 oz serving of meat. My main calories are coming from dairy - lots of heavy cream, sour cream and cream cheese because they are filling and very low in carbs and glycemic index. However, they are high in calories. I am thinking that although my body has become a fat burner and I'm using up the fat I eat (I've not gained weight on all that high-fat food), I'm maybe taking in too much fat for my body to have any need to burn my excess stored fat.
Does this make sense? ![]() Thanks for your help! |

****** Question
Ok, I took a look at Fit Day and have a question. How do you use that site?
I put "egg" in the search box and got every kind of option except a plain old egg! ![]() How do I record my foods without spending all day on this? Is there a quick and easy way to do this? I'm sorry - I don't mean to sound negative, but I can't figure this one out. Thanks for any help! Pam |

![]() Pam - sorry it's giving you fits! (get it - fits . . . . ) ![]() *Ahem* Anyway -- I think you use the raw egg for a regular egg . . . ****** does take some getting used to, but it's an awesome tool, at least at the beginning for figuring out ratios. I have put my favorite recipes in there ( just use a blank day, figure out the ingredients and then put it as a custom dish by the name and you're set!) |

Update on my granddaughter:
Thanks guys for all the prayers and the support. I was woke up about 5 a.m. this morning by a call from DD. She needed me to go with her to pick up DGD about 1 1/4 hours away where she goes to school. She was going to get a ride 1/2 way here early this morning and be picked up by her mom to go have her tests but she had such a bad night that my DD called the Dr. and he said to get her to the ER. So we got her and drove her back here to the hospital. They gave her IV fluids in the ER and then took her over to outpatient for her tests. Of course, they won't be able to tell us anything until the biopsies come back. They'll find out Tuesday at 3 p.m. In the meantime, my DD's BFF drove up to the hospital to bring me back to get my car so I could go to another hospital to pick up DSIL (DD's DH) after his nose surgery. All of this in the worst pouring down rain possible. I finally got him home and settled and fed him some soup for lunch. Then DD and DGD came home. So they're all settled in for the night and now we're just waiting. Oh and my DH had to get a CT scan today to see if he has another kidney stone! So we're waiting for the results of that too. Plus it's his birthday!! So after I took a shower and washed all the "hospitals" off of me, I made him scallops, shrimp and creamed peas. No cake. That'll come Sunday when we do the family dinner celebration. I'm worn out now. |

Pam, I use the custom food column off to the left. Hit "create a custom food". For egg, look at the carton you are using and enter the calories, fat, carbs, fiber and protein, then go to the bottom of that page and hit "create this food". It is now in your "View my custom foods" column. When you want to add it to your daily food log, go under "view my custom foods" and click on the blue button that says "add to my food log". This seems like a lot of work but I have about 100 foods in my food log that i eat repeatedly. You can also look up "eggs, raw". You have to look it up like that with the comma between the word eggs and raw. It is extremely fast once you know how to use it. The thing about heavy cream and cream cheese is the calories really add up fast with very little volume. You have to weigh and measure. Try it for 3 days and see what your calories are. You could just weigh, measure and write it out on a piece of paper too.
Sandy, i'm worn out from your story! I have been worried about your DGD as H1N1 is hitting kids really hard. |

Thanks Cindy. So far so good on no H1N1 but I'm so worried that she's getting so run down that she'll catch anything that comes along. I really pray that she can avoid that after going through all that she already has.

You're getting what we had yesterday MK. Stay dry, if you can.
I'm working at the church office this a.m. and then hopefully maybe seeing my dad. I haven't even been able to see him since he got back from my sister's! |

Morning peeps.
Sandy, OMG, what a day you had and I can understand the concern about your DGD, I would be too. And, like MK says, this is not the time to be run down with the H1N1 hitting kids so hard. Scary stuff and what on earth is causing all her problems, will be glad to hear from you when they get some results. Me thinks your family has had enough of all this hospital stuff! We had rain again yesterday but so far today the sun is shining and we are sure glad to see that. I am still trying to get rested up from Las Vegas, so haven't done anything exciting the past couple of days besides laundry and go through mail. DH has requested home made potato soup for tonight so since that is his favorite I am going to make him some of that. Nothing LC about it at all, so I will have a little of that and then some of my veggie soup. Welcome Pam.... |

Hi..
Oh my goodness, Sandy..Prayers for the whole situation. I'm hoping that they find out exactly what your dgd has..She needs to be home, doesn't she??? Yup, I felt the rain yesterday too..Today is chilly, windy and sunny. Pam: Or you could use a good old fashioned calorie counting book..Fats should be around 60-65 percent..That counts the fat in eggs, meats, etc..Dairy very often stalls people because it is so darned caloric and you don't even notice. I'm a creamaholic, so I have to watch the amount of cream I use because it could easily put me over the top (and has)..also cheese..Dairy fat doesn't fill me up that much..but meat fat does..Say sausage and eggs and bacon. Very filling for me. Keep plugging away..Everyone has to find their "sweet spot" for weight loss..You can do it. Cindy: What's a brain bleed? Our children's pastor had one and ended up in Wichita yesterday..He is doing better today, which is a good sign..He started out with a headache and luckily the local hospital sent him to Wichita via ambulance..(I would have opted for the helicopter myself). Mary Kay: Thanks for the darling kitty picture..Alex enjoyed looking at it.. Buffy: Yup, it takes a long time to recover from "vacations" sometimes.. Good grief, tomorrow is weigh-in ... Thankfully Thin..?? |

Carolyn, a bleed in the brain is when the wall of an artery ruptures either from a blow to the head or a congenital abnormality that many have where they have a wall of an artery that is thin. This is why high blood pressure can be a ticking time bomb because many don't know they have a "thin spot" until it blows. It can be a minor thing or can lead to major disability, depending on how bad the bleed was.
All right, thyroid folks! I'm done with synthetics. Stopped hair loss (yeah!) but I never felt good. I'm on my second day of Naturethroid and feel better all ready! I don't know why but this works better for me. BF and I went to a costume shop yesterday for a party tonight. He's going as Indiana Jones and I got this great 70's pink and white mini dress with white knee high boots that have a peace sign on them! Sandy, I'm going to take a picture of us with my iPhone and e-mail it to you tomorrow. I don't know if you can post it here as I sure the heck don't know how! Hi..
Thanks, Cindy..He is around 40 years old..Hopefully he has an annual check up as he has good health insurance. They have 3 kids, so he needs to take care of himself..He is better today. I read where high blood pressure is a cause...He is a type A person. Glad you feel better on Naturthroid.. Oh..confession..I had a cinnamon roll this morning for lunch at our downtown fair..There was no one in line..I took it as a sign from God.. DS called me..He had signed up to be in the bone marrow bank and needed some contact information.. |
