So Carolyn, you take 1 grain in the am and 1 in the afternoon? I'm thinking of asking for this. Is Nature Thyroid the same thing?

Cindy: Yup...I looked this morning. 120 is my dosage. I get 2 gram tabs and have pill splitter..1/2 before breakie and 1/2 in the middle of the afternoon. Either one..Westhroid or
Nature throid (or whatever that name is) is fine.

MaryKay..I know..But, I'm sure your dd is having a ball..

I was down to 156 this morning........Still a few pounds to go to get the Branson weight off of me. Honestly, it was the evil carbs that make me gain..hamburger bun, wine, ice cream..cinnamon roll...

Honestly, my thin friend eats very little at each meal and looks terrific. She always has watched her portions with great discipline..That's why she is a size 8.

Here I am, here I am, here I am. I can't even remember the last time I posted, I have been running around like a crazy woman, getting all my fun things in since being Mema/nanny for over a week between the 2 boys. I went to the casino which seems to be my latest OCD fun thing to do and stayed wayyyyy tooo long each time, but had so much fun. There seems to be a little community of people who hang out there, I am getting acquainted with, I guess maybe we are all homeless people who "live" there now. Anyway, there all have fun visiting and just hanging out there, besides playing the slot machines. I don't play the table games, I don't want to think that hard, .
Today is laundry and office work, plus I have to take DH to pick up the truck he banged up the fender on, it has been in the shop being repaired.
DGS 9 started his new school yesterday, 5th grade and it went well. We were all nervous for him but another boy came up to him and said "I will help you out today since you are new here", I thought that was sooo great. Anyway, he said he made 2 new friends and the day went well.
Carolyn, do you have a friend with 1 foot or are you knitting a "pair" of socks,
Hi Cindy, MK, Sandy, everyone. Sounds like you all have been busy with horse back riding, shopping getting ready for vacation, movies, decks, me thinks we have all been enjoying life and not concentrating too much on low carb, but heck, me also thinks we should all be enjoying life to the fullest!!!!

Hi..Buffy, I want you to be my nanny..You are such a fun person. Glad dgs met a nice friend.

Yes, I am knitting a pair of socks..I'm working on the heel of the first one, which is the tricky party..

Lunch was a salad bar..I'm finding that I don't put dressing on my salads when eating out. Some of the dressings aren't that great and I do have cheese, so I'm getting some fat..

hi

Hi ladies,

I haven't been around for ages and wanted to greet you all. Life has been a tad busy and there has been time away too ..in our rainy british summer.

I have shifted tack quite a lot diet wise and my postings would be off-topic were I to continue. I doscovered that unless I was entirely in control of my eating that there were too many blips at the carb level when I was invited to friends, business meals etc My weight loss fluctuated and even with careful carb and cal counting I ended up over all losing only 2 pounds. Clearly the redundancy and the attendant events didn't help.

What I'm doing now is using the wisdom of Barry Groves and Mary Eng and sally Fallon combined with eating more slowly and reflectively and being careful to stop when I am full and only eat again when I am hungry. I also eat more widely than I was doing and the carb levels have come up a bit. It seems to be working and I can feel my body fining down. I really appreciate what I learned on this discussion and have used it in an adapted fashion in a way that seems to suit me.

I hope you are all well and wanted to thank you for your support when I was doing the EFGT diet.

xxxx

Hi Kapri, thanks for stopping by. As you can see, we talk more about our daily lives than our diet sometimes, but we all enjoy keeping up with each other.

MK, I don't know how you do keep up with all the things you have been doing with the kids, and the shopping, getting them all ready for back to school, etc. I helped get DGS9 ready for back to school but that was just 1 and so very fun. It is the best kind of shopping, I get to enjoy picking things out for him and then DD reimburses me for the purchases, although sometimes Mema decides to make the shopping a gift. Kind of depends on our budget at the time. But, DD just appreciates the help, she is more than happy to pay for it if she doesn't have to go shopping. I raised 3 girls who all hate to shop???? And my son, forget about it , pull his teeth out before making him go shopping

Today is finish the laundry and office work, then walking down to the school at 3:00 to meet DGS9, he is going to come to my house on Wed. and maybe Thurs. after school.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi ladies..and Gord..

Today was crazy..exercise, hair cut/eyebrow wax/Bible Study/knitting class..

Deck is pretty well done...Looks great..Now we have to decide what goes in between the railings..We are definitely going with something horizontal not to obstruct the view of the pond. We were thinking copper pipe, but might go with stainless steel cableing.
Of course, dh is gone, so have to wait until he comes back. Then they have to wait
45 days to stain it.

Kapri: Why do I eat so fast???? Bad habit. I guess having 3 brothers was part of it. I do think it's much better to eat slower and eat when you are hungry..It's kind of a Paul
McKenna philosophy..

You are a wonderful Mema, Buffy..

I hope Sandy is having a wonderful Florida vacation..hurricane-free.

Cindy: Are you now on Westhroid???

MK: Gosh, that was a fast week with your dd22..I am betting you are spread thin.
When is your son going back to college???

Hugs all around..My sock is coming along. I am so glad I took this knitting class. There is nothing like expert help.

Carolyn, not yet but i can tell I'm not optimized on Synthroid.

Would anyone have a clue that if you have a pic on your iphone (I can e-mail the pic to myself) how I could use that or any pic in my e-mail as an avitar? I have a couple of great pics of DHOR 9 that would be fun.

Okay..send it to yourself...Hmmm..I think you have to send it to yourself and put it in your pictures. Then go to tinypic and it will let you browse your pictures, click on it to upload it into the tinypic site. Copy the link they give you, then go to your options here and paste it on avatar..That should do it..

Or -

Send it to yourself.
Add it to your pictures.

Click on the edit avi link.
Scroll to the bottom and chose browse under option 2.
It will browse through your pics and you can choose which one you want.

If it's the wrong size, I can help with that too.

Mary Kay: DS17 likes to be the "only child" methinks..

I think I'll call my doctor and up my appointment to next week if I can. I want my thyroid blood test done and it's been several months. I called my pharmacy and had them send me out some 2 grain Westhroid so it will see me through. If dr. increases my Westhroid, I can always adjust.

Thanks ladies for your warm re-welcome!!

Carolyn, I eat (normally and left to my own devices) like the food will explode or be taken away in the next couple of minutes. I am famous for wolfing down my food. I think it was family competition and the desire for seconds of pudding. I also spent a lot of time in college environments.

Eating more slowly has an amazing effect for something so simple. If I simply put my knife and fork down and focus truly on the other person I'm with. I then focus fully on the next mouthful and enjoy it calmly. If I work on enjoying each mouthful. It slows me right down and I sense whether or not fullness is coming rather than being hit by a sense of fullness ten minutes after I have stuffed my face.

I am still a huge coconut oil fan and also eat a lot of eggs etc etc Did I already say that both my hairdressers have been astounded at the way my rather thin hair has thickened up beautifully since I started the EFGT diet?

ps

Carolyn, it is Paul Mckenna's philosphy. A friend I spoke to today made the same observation. Also Gwen Shamblin's Weigh Down contains similar ideas ..I know there are big problems with some of her other views.

I am finding that the information about fat, protein etc has been really helpful and then combining it with changing myself and my attitude rather than just the food seems to be what I need.

Hi everyone..

Will pray for safe travel for your dd, Mary Kay. How many miles is it????

Kapri: Yep, that is Paul's philosophy..However, for me, I do much better if I put LESS on my plate and use a dessert plate. Then I am still a member of the Clean Plate Club. I can stop when I am eating out because I am talking with peeps, etc..but not when I am alone. It's amazing how little we do need to make us satisfied.

I did change my doctor's appointment to next Thursday..Blood work done on Monday at 11:30. If a person is on T4/T3 meds, make sure you have your blood drawn 5 hours after you take your meds. Otherwise the T3 drug will show up on the test. This would not give an accurate test.

I'm making a tuna/miracle noodle/cream of mush casserole for me tonight. DH hates tuna, so I'll enjoy it myself...He's still on the Left Coast.

Carolyn, I am also putting less on the plate in the first place, based on the premise that if I have been over-eating I need less than I think! I do try too to slow down enough to leave something on the plate if I am truly full. Half a rather overly garlicky sausage tonight ..in a previous life that half sausage would have had no chance!! LOL

I do think it's the key to weight loss..LCing has many health benefits relating to our blood sugar and many other benefits. Weight loss is one, too, of course. Making us feel fuller on
the same amount of calories than if we were eating high carb foods. So, we are fuller after we eat less food. That's the theory..

Speaking of Eng and Fallon, I just watched "Fathead" last night. It was fabulous. Loved the discussion by all the big wigs (Eades, Eng, Fallon ,ect) about cholesterol, fat intake, especially saturated fat and how it wasn't until we started processing vegetable oils did heart disease occur. Also about inflammation being the key contributor in heart disease.

I worked in the yard today. Planted mums and put down 14 bags of mulch. I swear that stuff evaporates!

DC15 (16 next month) has her 2nd UTI in 6 weeks so she now has to be on antibiotics a whole month. He suggested pro-biotics to combat the diarrhea. Poor DC. I also started her on fish oil to help with her arthritis. She wont eat it in her food (it's fish oil, she's a cat!) so I draw it up in a syringe and give her 1/2 of it. DHOR 27 is good as is DHOR 9 and DC14. It always has to be one. I swear they take turns!

I wonder if you can get Fathead at Blockbuster..Hmm..I love mums, and mulch doesn't go very far.

Poor little DC15...I wonder if you could slip her some D-Mannose to combat those UTI's..
Yeah, if our kitties were farm kitties, they would be so happy to get fish oil..or any little scrap of food we gave them. However, they are very spoiled babies..

Makes total sense..Calories do count..

Morning!

Carolyn - DD22 made it to NY safely!
It's 823 miles!

Great article!
Since I'm so short (fun-sized) calories REALLY count!

Cindy - I'm not sure I know what happens to mulch either!
Just that I need to put a bunch on again and do quite a bit a weeding. The mulch isn't doing its job!

I need to do some cleaning today, take DS20 to the eye doc, I'm not sure what else!
There's a HS football game tonight, but it's away, so may or may not go.

The mulch I bought is black!! I put it in a bed by the street away from the other beds to see if we liked the color. It is very striking against the purple flowers and green plants.

Carolyn, you will really like Fathead. Try to find it. It is everything we preach. I read the above post when he posted it. I always felt calories do count. Especially when you get closer to your goal. And yes, the cats are very spoiled.

High in the 70's next week. Man, Fall is early! Wonder what winter will look like. I love Fall but it has been so wet and muddy, the farmers have had trouble getting in the crops.

Hair loss has slowed to pretty much normal but now I need to grow it back in. I bet I lost 20% in 3 months! I'll go over and grab my thyroid panel and hormone results from my doc.

Morning peeps!

Oh, I love the idea of the black mulch against purple and green, bet that is striking! We need some fall flowers to plant in front of the house, mums might be a great choice.

Happy to hear DD made it safely back home MK.

Yes, our spoiled cats lead a much different and better life than the cats led on the farms where I grew up. They were always hunting for food and very lean. Tinker is getting fatter each year, hmmm, I guess I haven't set a very good example for him

Meeting DSD, DSIL and the triplets tonight for dinner, that will be fun and very busy and very entertaining.

Going to DD#3 house either Sat. or Sun. for swimming with her family and DD#2 and DGS's.

Hope Sandy is having a great time on the beach!

Nothing exciting to report on today. Life marches on
