Yeah, we're June bugs!! Hey Carolyn, I noticed in your WOE you list "I can make you Thin". Is that a new Barry book?
Work a ton this week so my postings may be breif. Doing more organic than before: milk (my BF drinks milk every day), eggs, butter, buffalo, beef, spinach, lettuce, carrotts, green beans, broccoli. Trying to do organic on all the things in the "Dirty Dozen" list. Thats a list of the most heavily pesticided frits and vegtables. Really cutting WAY down on processing, cooking everything but then I like to cook. I am able to buy a lot of organic stuff at Costco so that helps a lot. Whole Foods is EXPENSIVE!! Kapri, your list looks great. Spinach, salmon. Really the way to go. Hope everyone has a great night!! |

I'm going with yesterday's weight for the month which keeps me the same for the month. 145.5. I had some Chinese today so I'm sure the scale will read heavy in the a.m. I hope to lose at least a couple of pounds this month. I really think I've got maintenance down pat, lol.

The Chinese wasn't as bad as I thought. I was still only 146 this a.m. so I guess to stay totally "honest", lol, I'll go with that. Then maybe I'll actually have more of a chance to show a loss by July 1, lolol.

Morning peeps.
Let's see, some things I need to catch up on but my memory is horrid. cindy, glad DHOR27 is treatable. MK, I want to be with your son, I would love to visit the areas he is visiting. I didn't weigh this morning. I did weigh a couple of days ago and my weight had gone down about 4 lbs since the day I went to the Dr., I went potty a lot the first 2 days so guess I was retaining some water. So far new drugs doing fabulous job. My BS has been in perfect zone every reading except one and that was only 2 pts over. Extreme, intense craving that I was having for carbs disappeared the first day as soon as I started the new meds and BS dropped like a rock. So, high BS to me means extreme carb cravings, which I had given into, which in turn drove BS higher, which led to, well, you get the picture of the destructive cycle I was in. I know if I had gone to meat/eggs only I could have pulled myself out of that but I'll be really honest here, I am going to welcome the help of the drugs to keep my BS lower and make it not so hard to be diabetic. I know it is better to do it with total diet and exercise but I wasn't doing so good at that, so this is better on my body than letting it spiral out of control. I am not having side effects from either the byetta or the brand name of metformin, which is glumetza. Dr. said that the company who makes glumetza touts that as being one of the reasons to take the brand name but who would have thought it would make this much difference. And, I have to tell you my dear peeps, my mood has done a complete turn around, I am back to feeling like myself again, have energy and the depression has lifted. Whew, glad that is ovah girlfriends!!!!! Now, tons to do b/c I got way behind on things and I leave Thurs. for Canada. Good luck to everyone on sticking to their plan of choice. Welcome Wayless. Uh, we really don't have a challenge do we gals? We just report on our weight the beginning of each month to try to help ourselves stay in line with our WOE which for most of the Barry Groves plan. But, feel free to join our little group of chatters and supporters.

another question re optimal calories
Another question for you ladies?
Those of you who try to watch the calories in the context of sticking to this diet do you aim for a particular top limit? I have never been one for calorie counting but would like to stay in the healthy but not excessive area for a woman trying to lose weight. I was even stevens with protein and fat today so I had (wait for it!!) a couple of fluid ounces of cream with some fruit and of course the proportions re-balanced in the right way, fat went back up but my calories went up from approx 16 -17,000 OOO to closer to 19-20,000. I'm not sure my approach was the best one, and I would rather stay within the 14000 to 18000 area. Kathryn Last edited by Kapri; 06-01-2009 at 03:24 PM.. Reason: spelling |

WOE: Eat Fat, Get Thin/I Can Make You Thin

Hi..
What a day..In my pre-K group at VBS, I have 3 wayward boys...There are 2 adults and 2 "kid" helpers. Tomorrow we are bringing in the ropes to hang onto. It is fun, though.. June and her ds32 are staying with us for a couple of days..I'm cooking tonight..Gary will be pleased. I Can Make You Thin is about eating only when you are hungry, not shovelling food down your throat, and stopping when satisfied. Things I still need to learn.. ![]() Buffy: Yeah for your drugs!!! Sandy: Chinese isn't totally of the devil unless you eat those nommie noodles and fried eggrolls. I find when I avoid the obviously carby things, I do better after Chinese... Kathryn: Calories still count..but not as much as carbs. However, just see what Mr. Scale says. MKay: I would love to go to Greece.........125 isn't bad.. you lost .2 pounds..Could be worse, friend. Cindy: You can do it....Although Sandy and I thought you looked marvelous. I think a person can weigh more when they lowcarb and look alot better than if they were on lowfat. WayLess: Yes, for me, the weigh-in keeps me in touch with my weight for the month..I'm hoping to go down this month..No vacations..yet.. Hugs all around.......................

Is the I Can Make You Thin the one where you do the tapping? I can't keep my diets straight, lol.
It sounds like you're going to have an interesting week with the kids. Sounds like fun though. Yes, Cindy, we thought you looked great but you know your own body. I'm sure you'll do fine this month. I wish you'd rub a little of your obsessiveness you're always saying you have so much of onto me, lol. I could use a bit more I think. I'm just getting too lax in my day to day eating and really need to tighten it up some. Buffy, I'm so glad to hear things are doing better. Good for you!! Sounds like you have a great Dr. which helps so much. I'm sure you're going to have fun on your trip too.

My goal is 1500 calories a day because I am almost (within 10 pounds) of my goal weight. I am very often equal in fat and protein but that is actually out of bounds for EFGT. Protein should be closer to 70 grams and fat about 50% higher than that so about 100 grams or better.

Morning my little friends!
Congrats Lise, KUTGW!!! WTG Kapri, wishing you good luck with the next 3 lbs! I agree with Carolyn that a certain weight looks better on a person doing lc than not, b/c, when you do low carb you (or at least I) lose all the extra fluid we carry around and do not look as puffy, etc. You get a leaner look, and usually your tummy flattens out, which also helps. Have a hair appt. this morning at 9:00, then this afternoon DD#2 is bringing DGS 1 out to see the baby kittens and to see his Mema. She is starting him in a survival swimming lesson class this morning as they have a pool right outside their back doors and this class teaches babies to roll over and float if they should ever fall into the water. But, the teacher has warned DD that it is hard to watch them teach it, then, he has to go in for a shot at the Dr.'s office, so DD said he was sure going to be needing his Mema by the time he got here. ![]() I used to drink coffee with cream and splenda, then finally got off the cream and just this past week graduated to no splenda. It was a long process but I am glad I am down to just plain coffee. ![]() Have a great day everyone, BBL |

Hi is 1200 maintenance or for steady loss? 1200 would be a challenge for me but I'm going to see how I get on with 1500 as an upper limit and then watch the scales and cut back as necessary. Buffy Thank you! I look forward to reporting back at the end of the week.Smile Kathryn |

Kapri..I think that 1200 cals is a personal choice for 1 person on this board....if she can eat that little and not be constantly faced with hunger and cravings then more power to her....I'm sorry I can't remember who....I know for a fact that if I ate that little I would be constantly hungry and craving and that for me leads to binging and failure...we are all different but I personally could not survive on so little...I like to eat until full and then not think about food at all until I get hungry again which for me is anywhere from 8 to 12 hours later....I have no idea how many calories I consume as I don't track or record....I just make sure to have fatty meat and the rest falls into place...I refuse to live my life hungry or craving...to each his own but I personally love the freedom from my food obsession
Sandy brought me to EFGT and helped me get over my fear of dietary fat and I am ever so thankful....fat does not make you fat...carbohydrates make you fat ...once you accept that it is easy to make the right choices when selecting what food to eat... Thanks everyone for the congrats....I feel so good...a little impatient but I know that quick weight loss is not the answer for me...slow and steady does win the weight loss 'race' and I can honestly say that I can easily see myself eating like this for the rest of my life....no hunger..no cravings..no obsessing.. ![]() and have a great EFGT dayLise |

I agree with Lise. I know I haven't been following the plan very well lately so I've not been a very good example for anybody, but when I do follow the plan as written by Barry, my calories are high. Sometimes over 2000! But my protein is where it's supposed to be and my fat is high. And carbs are at a minimum. And I lose when I do this. I'm 59 years old. I do workout at the gym with weights 2-3 times a week and try to walk the other days. But I don't always get that accomplished. For anybody struggling with this WOE, I say commit to doing the plan exactly as Barry Groves wrote it for a period of time, like 2-4 weeks and see what your results are. Try to keep it simple. Meat, fat and veggies or a tiny amount of fruit. I can even eat grains as long as I keep the ratios right and still lose. So please, just don't starve yourself on this plan. That's not what Barry intended I'm sure.

I'm only 5' tall.
If I don't pay some attention to my calorie intake, I can gain even with lots of fat and few carbs. I'm just lucky I guess! I try to have my carbs be fruits and veggies, but it doesn't always matter. Sometimes life isn't fair! |

I would kill someone on 1200 calories a day! But everyone is differant. I still lose on 1500 calories a day and I'm 126 pounds. LC does help and there is a mild metabolic advantage to a higher protein diet. Protein consumes about 20% of it's calories just to digest so if you eat 80 grams a day, that's 320 calories. 20% of that is 64 calories consumed just in digestion so it does help. I was always wondering if that is only true of meat or of protein powder also.
DHOR27 had an upper GI today to look at her throat to rule out something but it was normal so they are overnighting her antibiotics to start her on. They are surprised she can eat but she can eat about 18 pounds of grain a day right now. It pretty much dissolves in her mouth. They also use it for horses with no teeth. DC15 and DC14 are well as is BF. For those of you who are new, DHOR 27 is my 27 year old horse. Her son is DHOR 9 is her son. DC 15 and DC 14 are my 15 and 14 year old cats. I made these up because I have no DS or DD but I do have a BF! |

cals and carbs
Thank you for the discussion ..all of you. It was actually really helpful to me to hear what you all had to say.
I gave in and weighed myself today and have not gained but neither have I lost weight since last Friday's weigh in when I had lost three pounds in 5 days. I have been super strict and stuck to the EFGT rules. As far as I can see. My cals since Friday have varied between 1400 and 2000. Today's stats and my final calorie count almost 1500. The alcohol was a small glass of dry white wine. Fat (57%) Carbs (12%) Protein (25%) Alcohol (5%) I think I will keep an eye on things and aim to be close to 1500. I don't feel hungry on 1500 - 2000. I have to admit I don't feel totally full on 1500 either that said but it's not a big deal !! I may end up closer to 16-1700 on a daily basis. And I am greatly in sympathy too with Lise and being freed from the yoke of hunger etc and will also carefully moniter the fat/protein balance. I'll keep you posted and thanks to all for sharing your own approaches, Kathryn xxx |

![]() At 5'0", even the 120 I want is probably too high, but any thinner and I look too old and wrinkled! I weighed 98lbs before kids (about 25 years ago), and I'm fairly small boned. Luckily I haven't killed anyone today. ![]() |
