On the chips thing..I was very proud of dh.. I was going to split the chip I grabbed with him, but I ate the whole thing myself.

Mary Kay..your kitty thought you were playing a game with her, I'm sure..Then everyone else goes in the house, and she is all alone..

Alex got out on the front porch by accident..Brett was coming home and shined the lights of his car on Alex. Brett came in and said, "Did you realize Alex was outside?" Panic, panic, panic..Well, Alex had run in when Brett opened the door and headed for
his "under the bed" hideout.

I do think a cat can have many faces..Do you cat lovers ever go on the LOL cat place?
So....funny.

Morning!

I didn't know about the LOL cat place!!

It's raining here with a little bit of thunder. DH is off to St Louis, so I'm stuck walking the dog.

Maybe it'll clear off . . . .

Carolyn - that's what I thought too - it was fun when we all were out, but she had 5 hours of scary night all to herself!

I'm off to the Dr. today for a check up to make sure I really can do all this extra exercising I've been doing. I know, a bit late, but hey, I'm going, lol. Then to Dad's. We're going for lunch.

See you all later,

everyone!

I did not completely forgo the chips last night - I was fine until he brought some warm ones out . . . .

But I only had 5!
And the margarita was good!

Hi guys..

Smoky: 80...you guys are having a heatwave. No wonder your "growing season" is so short, huh? Peeps around here are harvesting their carrots already..Not me..of course.

Well, the rain cooled my pool off.. I need a thermometer for that thing..

I'm going to make a Microwave Cheesecake this afternoon. I posted the recipe on the Bulletin Board. I'll make in a deep dish pie pan..

Sandy: Let us know what the doctor says..We don't want to "over exercise"..at all..

5 chips is good, MKay..Margarita? Yummy..I very rarely if ever drink..cuz I would rather "eat"..LOL..

According to my cardiologist, I have 0 cardiac disease. I can continue to do any exercise I want and not to worry. I had a stress echo while I was there and did great! He did say he'd like to see my LDL a bit lower and of course mentioned statins. I said no thank you and he said ok. Lol. My ratios are good so I'm really not worried about it. He's an older Dr. so I'm sure he's just going with the medical establishment way of thinking. He told me my weight was great and to keep doing whatever it is I'm doing. Green light all around! So I feel good about it.

Carolyn, your big toe is otherwise known as a thermometer, lol. Rain will cool them down fast though.

MK, I'd like a margarita right about now.

Hi Gord, enjoy your heat wave.

Yippeee..for your heart, Sandy... and your weight..

Time to do my Wii Active.. I'm trying to run longer without killing myself. I do think "running" is the hardest thing to do. How do those large peeps do that on The Biggest Loser???? It's amazing.

I'm getting better at it. I use my HRM and run enough to keep it at the level I'm working towards. Sometimes that means a longer run time and sometimes shorter. But I can tell it's getting easier so that's good. And I'm so shocked that my "bad" knee has still not hurt one time!! Woohooo!!

I was at 147 this a.m., naked. I still wish it was a bit lower but apparently I don't want it bad enough, ya know?

I wish I had a book club! Does listening to them count? I think I'm the only one who reads/listens in my circle of friends. Maybe I need to find some new ones for a book club. Our Sr. Citizen Center has one but I don't think I'm ready for that yet. Although they advertise as the Over 50 group, lol.

Yep, Carolyn, it's a great tool.

PS. Thanks for the compliment. You look great too. We're just both too hard on ourselves.

This is the hot news in our little town..

Mary XXX was chased in her yard by a rabid squirrel and bitten. (ouch). The police came finally and shot it (took 3 shots). Mary lives across from my friend Dianne..Mary's yard is always perfect, gorgeous flowers, perfect lawn, immaculate house (all the time). Kinda like a Flylady on steriods. Poor Mary. I think she is getting the rabies shots..I guess they aren't as bad as they used to be.

Rabies in Kansas. Not real common. What a shame. I bet a squirrl is hard to hit!

Sandy, I am so happy to hear about your clean report! A margarita would be good! They are my fav but I haven't had one in over a year!

Gord, glad summer has finally hit. It really has just hit down here.

MK, warm chips are the worst! My trick is to dip the chip in the hottest sauce they have so I have to drink SO much water to get them down, I am slowed down.

Going to the farmers market for the first time in the am. I'll report back. Nite all!!

Sandy congrats on your clean bill of health...you should check out the seniors centre...they love when young chicks join......old folks have so much to offer in the way of experience....especially of the olden days when people had different values...just avoid the cranky ones......I'm sure they would love a book club....maybe you could volunteer to start one and then you wouldn't actually be a member but a volunteer...

198 this morning...

everyone

The other day someone asked me if I was type II and the answer is yes...I was diagnosed in April 2008 and through LC then EFGT and now ZC and no medication I have dropped my A1C from 7.9 to 6.0 (normal)...I have also lost 33 lbs...I know that if I start to eat carbs my blood sugar/insulin level will go up and so will my weight so I have no intention of ever having any.

Have a great day

Lise

Morning!!

Book Club was fun.
Sandy - I only knew a couple of the ladies when I started, and now we're all friends. So I'm sure there's one out there, you just need to track it down!

Carolyn - It sounds like Wisteria Lane! Great mental pic of that rabid squirrel!

Cindy - can't wait to hear about the Farmer's Market!!

Lise - Congrats!! You're such a "loser"!

I have a massage this morning, possibly a walk with a new friend and I NEED to clean!

That's so weird about that squirrel! Just yesterday I was thinking about rabid squirells. We have lots of squirrels in our neighborhood and one in particular loves to come up on our deck and stretch out in the sun on the railing. He actually will scoot along the railing like he's holding on for dear life. Like he's afraid of heights is how I described it to DH. Well yesterday I thought to myself, "I hope he's not sick or something, like rabies. What if I go out there and he starts chasing me?" Well after hearing about your neighbor Carolyn, you can bet I'll make sure I don't see any squirrels before I head outside, lol.

It's on it's way to being very hot today so I want to get my workout in early. My plans got canceled so I might try to make it to the pool today if I get everything else done around here.

There's already a book club at our sr. center, I'm just not ready to join in quite yet, lol. I should really spend some time with an elderly aunt but she reminds me so much of my mom that's it's actually hard to be with her a lot. Plus Mom didn't really get along with her very well and I would feel a little guilty. I know that's silly but it's how I feel. I was raised with liberal doses of guilt, lol.

Morning peeps!
Wow, lots of good posts, Sandy, great on your clean bill of health, wow, much better than mine. And Lise, I am so proud of you for having the strength to handle your diabetes totally through diet and exercise, you have done perfectly.
The one good thing on my last checkup is that my A1C is now down to 5.4 which does show the power of the meds, they do help keep that lower.

As for metformin, yes, I take it. Took the generic from last July until just recently when my Dr. switched me to the brand name metformin, glumetza, hoping it would help with the tummy problems I had with the generic. It is better but I still have to take immodium daily to tolerate the metformin, but the metformin is such a good diabetes med that I can tolerate this. So, for the diabetes I take 1000 glumetza daily and right now 2 shots of 5 byetta. In about 1 1/2 weeks I will move up to the 10 byetta and then stay there. I have had little if any side effects from the byetta so hope it isn't any worse with the higher dose. And, I have lost 9 lbs since I went on it. It does help control my appetite which is great. Losing 9 sounds good but I had gone from 210 to 224 by the time I saw my Dr. so now I am working back to that 210 and then hope I can work on down from that.
Rabid squirrels! Yikes. But, I have to say, the way you wrote the story Carolyn, it was cute and funny, I don't mean funny that Mary got bitten of course.
My house is a mess, we still have those 3 kittens we brought inside to tame and they are wrecking havoc, and, get this, I am such a lazy bones that I haven't even unpacked from my trip to NE and back. Have been gone most of the past 2 days so have only got the most important office work handled and that has been it. But, home today so must tackle things and be more like immaculate Mary

I am also proud of all of you that continue to be so diligent in your exercise, good for the heart, good for the soul.

How about a movie club? Doesn't that sound good if you aren't into forming a book club? I would like to join that. I used to devour books, now I still read but not nearly as much. Seems I have trouble finding books that interest me. I love a good mystery but when you find a good author, it seems like you read 2-3 of their books and then they all seem like the same story, just a different hero in a different setting.

Well, off to read the paper and then start on this mess!

P.S. Gord, glad summer found you

Hi everyone..

Yes, I went to my friend's house (right across from the rabid squirrel's place) and really looked around before I got out of the car. I guess a "normal" squirrel wouldn't chase you around the yard and bite you..but rabid one might do it. Think Old Yeller..

Lise: Good for you keeping it under 200.. 198 and your blood glucose is doing great..

I walked with my friend Pam this morning in the cemetery..Gosh it was hot in the sun and that really tires you out. skipped Curves today, but will do my Wii Active..(Honestly, I LOVE this)..I really feel the workout..and I'm better at running now.

Book Clubs are fun. Our Newcomer's Club has a month where we read a book.
We read The Great Gatsby last year and this year is The Pearl. Nothing too long..

Buffy: Glad that Byetta is working for you..and I love your 3 little kitten taming..Who's taming who?

Yup, it is hot here in KS..Think I'll take my book and cruise in my pool..

I love manis and pedis! And massages of course. Mine is next Tuesday. The day after the dentist, whom I hate!! I like him, I just hate dentists.

I was down to 145.5 today!! Woohooo! And I'm doing great so far today. I had lamb again for lunch. A small loin chop fried in bacon grease. Yummy!! I'm telling you, this stuff tastes just like beef!!

Our 41st wedding anniversary is Saturday. I'd like to try to find a restaurant we haven't been to before but that's pretty hard for us, lol. Our kids are in a BBQ contest this weekend so we'll go to that Friday night for the big feast but they'll be on their own Saturday for the actual competition.

Oh, BTW, I didn't make it to the pool. I didn't make it anywhere except to do my workout. And boy, was it hot!!! I was done by 8:45 but I was soaking wet with sweat. It's so hot and humid and my pup really didn't look like she was enjoying it either, lol. Then I had to wait for a cable guy and by the time he left I was mad and it was too late to go to the pool so I just watched some Top Chef shows and practiced my Spanish on the computer. I've been pretty lax about that lately.

the weatherman just said it's 86 but feels like 97!! My thermometer says 96 at my house!!

Looks good Carolyn, but somehow I don't think DH will want to drive back to Lawrence on his days off after driving there sometimes 2-3 times a day. But maybe another time. And I still don't think I'm brave enough to try lamb out anywhere, . I'm still a newbie and like to have control of it.

Carolyn, is it bad that i went to the dessert page and want the molten brown sugar cake! You can't leave me alone with a menu!!

The farmers market was "cute". Sandy, if you've ever been to the River Market, this is about 1/8th the size. The good news was it was all nice fresh vegetables without a lot of bakery items the "Amish" sell at the River market, which is good. I bought some green onions, organic lettuce, summer yellow squash, peaches and a potted orchid. I now have 3.

The heat index here was close to 100 today! Summer is here but a lot of weather unrest and flooding in areas.

Buffy, i have heard good things about Metformin from diabetics and non-diabetics alike. BloodSugar 101 just posted how happy she was on it.

BF on call tonight so the cats and i have the house to ourselves. Bought a nice pair of wild sockeye salmon filets at Costco today for dinner tomorrow.

I am finding I like Ezekial bread and it causes no cravings which bread usually does.

I love the OP Farmer's Market Cindy. Much better than the River Market downtown. But on Saturdays the Amish are in OP with all their yummy goods along with lots of other vendors selling yummy stuff that we try not to notice, lol. I like that a lot of the veggies are organic there w/o the higher organic prices. Sometimes anyway, lol. My mom grew up about 3 blocks from the OP market and my grandma lived in the same house until she passed away. I used to live with my grandma when I was little so it's like home to me when I go to old OP.

I love salmon!! But DH, not so much. And he's the one who got me started on it in the first place!
