HELP WANTED THIS DIET IS NOT WORKING
I hate to shout this from the rooftops but this diet does not work for me.
Have been on it two weeks on Saturday and I have stayed the same weight as day one.161.2 pound.Even the .2 hasn't wavered.I am doing it correctly and have only cheated once when my hubby bought me a cornetto without asking me first.I havnt got a sweert tooth so find what I am eating is making me full and satisfied I am taking in 1200 calories worked out by fitday and all my percentages for fat protein carbs are perfect every day. I am gutted but will stick with this for a month as it is so easy to do I just wonder if there is anyone who is dissapointed like me out there |

Just a few points: you've been on that one for too little to worry about losing, allow at least 3 weeks to see changes BUT if you are gutted then that's the wrong diet for you and I think you should be looking at something different. The right diet for you is one you think you might be able to carry on for the rest of your life, can you do it with this one? I think no because if you're already gutted in 10 days that's wrong. Oh I can believe you I think I have tried all kinds of diets on earth and there have been some I hated since the first day! Well, those just weren't right for me.
I'd ask you this question: *are you gutted because you're not losing weight or because you hate that way of eating?* if it is because you aren't losing weight, give it some more time if it si because you hate that way of eating, definitely, look for another diet that suits you best

Pet: Ah...you are 56! Welcome to the wonderful world of hormones..
Many of us really struggle at this age to lose weight. This is just a suggestion, if you are still willing to try things. Your fat is on the high side..I would try to cut back to 60 percent and see what happens. And, up your protein a bit. It is hard being a vegetarian doing this plan. I'm hoping you aren't eating much soy because that can mess with your thyroid. Have you had your thyroid checked? That can really mess up your metabolism. I'm hypothyroid and I struggle with weight. If your thyroid isn't optimized, it is very difficult to lose weight. Just some ideas...

I have got an underactive thyroid and have not been able to lose ANY weight on ANY diet that i have been on.I take thyroxine and have been doing so for 17 years
I havn't got a sweet tooth and can stick to a diet very easy...i have no problems sticking to any plan...but I do not get ANY results. This is SOOOO frustrating when I see my sister who is older than me raving and losing weight on this plan She told me to try this as it really works.I read the book and started full of hope, but just like usual nothing changes. My percentages have been working out perfect for what Groves reccomends in the book. But someone on here suggested I eat MORE protein so today i have had a 3 egg ommelette instead of a 2. I am open to ANY suggestions as i am desperate. It is so frustrating when friends think I am cheatiing, and thats why i dont lose anything. They say if you just do this ,if you just do that etc I have had EVEry reason said to me why I cant lose weight they include You are not eating enough You are not exersicing enough You eat too late in the evening you are not drinking enough,You are drinking too much you are getting stressed and now today, with respect....not enough protein too much fat Is it really this scientific????? Today my ketone strip has turned darker...yahey.So maybe something is happpening at last Thanks for advise and any tips that you can think of to help me on my way I AM going to suceed even if i have to stay with this for 50 years A daily plan is cheese and nuts breakfast...not too many as they make me feel queasy...maybe 100gm nuts 50gm cheese 2/3 egge ommelette cooked in butter with vege bacon and rocket Corgettes fried in 1 tbs butter grilled with cheese on top Raspberrys and greek yogurt Last edited by petispois; 05-27-2009 at 11:12 AM.. |

Hi...
Well, you need to read Stop the Thyroid Madness. It is a site you can go to to learn about the necessity of having both T3 and T4 as your meds. I was only on T4, then started gaining..Had my Free T3 and Free T4 tested and found out I needed T3, too. So, I am on 2 grains of Armour. I feel much better and hopefully, will start losing again.. ![]() Now, 100 grams of nuts has 578 calories..Nuts should be watched as they are quite carby, too..Atkins mentions limiting nuts because of the high calorie/not carbfree food. Plus, they are soooooo easy to overeat..(don't we know). Honestly, us hypos really have to watch everything. Even when we are properly medicated, our metabolisms are below normal, so we have to eat less than most peeps...Grumble, grumble.. |

Petipois....sorry to jump in so late but at least I'm in time to congratulate you on your 1 lb loss...
Here is my 2 cents....EFGT is a high fat moderate protein moderate carb way of eating and it is not a low calorie plan...you need to eat more on the whole...once your body knows that there will be a continuous supply of yummy fat for fuel it will begin to relase the fat stored in your fat cells...you may even gain a couple of pounds at first but this is just a part of the process of getting your body accustomed to burning fat for fuel instead of carbs...I honestly don't know much about being vegetarian since I am undoubtedly a carnivore of the highes order just please stay away from soy...it has toxins or other bad stuff...I can't remember all the details since I didn't pay much attention to that section since I don't eat soy and never will...please re-read the book and pay special attention to Barry's recommendations as to what to eat at each meal to stave away boredom but most importantly to keep calories up and to be patient...this plan does work and it works when you feed your body...not by starving it I also think you exercise too much...getting out and being active is a wonderful part of life and very healthy but forcing oneself to do X amount daily and stressing and straining is detrimental to weight loss as your body is then forced to heal the damaged muscles and is diverted from homeostasis which is normal body regulation including a return to a normal weight for you... Don't give up hope just follow the plan...re-read the book and ask lots of questions...I have lost 31 lbs in the last 13 months...Barry Groves and his program have been a life saver for me Have a great day ![]() Lise |

Well, I have been on this diet for over 2 weeks now and it was a false alarm that I had begun to lose weight.I lost 2 pound and was overjoyed. Then on saturday i put one pound back on and now I am back to square 1
i am back to 161.2 i havn't cheated in all this time (only a cornetto in the first week) and have checked out my AVERAGE fat protein carbs for the 2 weeks and they are My calorie intake comes out at 1275 carb 17% Fat is 65% protein 18% I cant believe that losing weight is sooo difficult i will carry on for one month Do you think my thyroid will sort it self out on this diet eventually/ You wouldn't think it was humanely possible NOT to lose weight but its true. Oh its frustrating but i am now more determined to carry on because what choice have i? There is no alternative. |

Petispois....I know it's hard for you to believe but you are not eating enough...this is not a low calorie diet..you must feed your body fat and re-assure it that you are not going to let it starve...then it will open up and let go of the fat stored in your fat cells....dietary fat does not make you fat...carbs make you fat...they get converted to fatty acids and get stored in your fat cells in the presence of insulin...
This really does work but you have to eat Did you make any changes between the first and second week? |

I know that you mean well and are trying to help me but I am not purposely trying to aim at a low calorie count
In fact I am not checking my calories at all when I eat but only posted the amounts a result of getting them off fitday.I have been just stopping eating when I have been full up,and this is how it has worked out. I find this diet very filling and thats why its easy to stay on it. I am not being funny but i dont think I could eat any more than I am. I realise we are all different and like I said before I havent got much interest in food and I lack appetite . Its strange because if you asked me what i would like as a last meal before i went to the electric chair...............I dont think i could think of one. Maybe this would make an interesting new thread Thanks for advice... I have got to do more research as i know its my thyroid but convincing my doc is another matter.they hate you telling them anything and usually get quite a--sy Thanks for your interest After thought......My percentages are good though arn't they? Petipois...I'm so sorry...I didn't mean that you had to eat more than to appetite...I thought that you were trying to keep cals low...if you are eating to appetite then you are doing just fine and your percentages are great..maybe a little high on the carbs...the longer you do this the more natural your food selections will become..
Keep up the good work...and just remember that the percentages are per meal...if you eat too many carbs at any one meal that will cause your insulin to spike and will encourage the storage of fat... you are doing greatLise |

sorry to lead you away from EFGT but you might want to check out the stubborn fat fix (other plans board) which is written by a former atkins dietitician and her husband. they have a clinic in NYC (i think). there is also a pod cast on jimmy's blog you could listen to. someone on the thread has provided a link. there seems to be sucess for many w stuck metabolisms.

Thanks for that
I am willing to give anything a try as I have been on the barry groves plan for 3 weeks now and I am the same weight as when I started. So I am getting no where fast. Its the same old story with me,and once again I feel a failure and if I hadn't written everything into fitday would be blaming myself for not doing something critical right. But I have followed it to the letter.I said i would give this a month so i will. After that I will try something else I suppose. There must be a diet out there for me. |

I would like to emphasize again that you need to get your thyroid checked. Yes, you've been medicated for many years, but unless you're optimally medicated, it's impossible to lose weight--I know.
I'm checked every 4 months, and hormonal shifts have required adjustment of my meds twice recently. You need to have both T4 and T3 checked, and your T3 should be at the HIGH end of the range. When my T3 was low (in range, but low), I gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks with no change in eating at all (doing low carb, low calorie). That's how powerful your thyroid is in terms of weight regulation. |

So how does this work then?
If you are taking in less calories what happens to your body? I dont understand how you can live on the amount of calories without losing weight.I know this does happen as I havnt EVER been able to lose weight in 17 years . Because I am not a huge lady the doctors just think this is a trivial matter abnd do not take it seriously. My legs and joints ache my temprature and pulse is low and worst of all I have hardly any energy.I find i have to keep sitting down to rest between housework.I get terrible fatigue where I feel drained and sick. At work i have to go upstairs into the toilets and just sit on that loo (lid down ) until it has passed. Its an awful way to carry on as I was always thin active with lots of staying power. Its great to know (or sad) to know that I am not alone and its not as simple as what the docs say that it is calories in versus calories out. thanks for your interest I have booked a blood test for monday as it has been 9 months since my last one.I am going to ask for my T4 and T3 to be done. |
