Hi gals..

Gosh, we got a huge windstorm last night..Our house and area was lucky, but some peeps lost big trees..and some landed on houses..Not a good thing. Gary works about 15 minutes away..No electricity in that town..no school..So, they are working by window light..

Becky: You have two little ones..How fun. My dd was born in November, and it is nice when they have to wait another year until they start..It is always an advantage..
I'm amazed at your running.............Good grief..

Did my exercise this morning..Our little exercise group is planning a going away luncheon for Tuesday..(for June). Then I am having the neighborhood party for her on the 25th..

I am trying to stay pretty low on my carbs. I did make some jello with strawberries in it..I love to do this: Slice strawberries, put them in custard cups..Make the jello:
One package of strawberry koolaid..one package of unflavored gelatin..one cup of cold
water..Mix...Then add one cup of boiling water. Now add Splenda to taste..I use concentrated liquid,...So, if you use granulated, you have to taste it..At least 1/2 cup, I would think of granulated..Then pour the jello over the berries..and refrigerate..I can
get 5 custard cups of jello..at least...

Yes Cindy, they do sure add up fast. Good job resisting! I had 2 eggs fried in bacon grease and 3 slices of bacon and my 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffee of course.

I went to the gym. I had to force myself to go today for some reason. I'm making a new recipe to take to the inlaws tomorrow. I had to go get some Chianti for it too. I hate going to the liquor store in the mornings, lol. It's Rachel Ray's Crock Pot Short Ribs. I plan on just eating the meat and fat. For the rest of them I'll fix polenta and put the sauce on that. That's my plan anyway. Keeping my fingers crossed I stick to it.

Carolyn, those little desserts sound good. I bet you're really going to miss June. Is she remarrying her ex or just going back to him?

It stormed north and east of KC last night too. Right at the very, very end of Survivor our local weather person, Tornado Katie!!, broke in to talk about it. Like it couldn't wait 2 more minutes. Or they could've put Survivor in pic in a pic. She's got a bad rep in KC for loving to stretch out her weather news and reports. There's actually a site trying to get her fired! I know that's their job but not all of the local channels were talking about it right then. They did take up the whole Grey's Anatomy hour though so I guess they'll rebroadcast that one. Hopefully!

morning everyone!
The chicken burgers are in the refrigerated section by the other prepared meats like hamburgers, ready to cook pot roast, etc. The package has 2 women's names on it, laura and something I think-really good though and 2 gms carbs per burger I topped mine with meunster cheese.
Wow, we never get interrupted TV for weather reports in eastern washington-we had gale force winds come through here 2 years ago and it was a BIG DEAL, it just never happens! Of course, DH and I don't have TV, we turned off our cable 3 years ago and never noticed-the kids have their DVD's and we have netflix and truthfully I would rather read a good book. We did get a 42 inch TV last christmas, it's fun to watch the occasional movie on and easier to wait for it to come to DVD as it feels more movie theatreish
Mmmmm, the ribs sound good! recipe please???
the jello sure sounds good, that's the bad part about no AS (the first time I did atkins in 2001 I did a lot of AS and I started getting really spacey-cut out AS and it went away, so I never ate it again) plus they generally make me nervous as I am really careful with my kids-my DH has a chronic disease so I am very careful about their diet and skin care/cleaning products. I occasionally wish I could have something sweetish besides PB and dk chocolate though I occasionally have berries over coconut bread covered in cream, or drink a tablespoon of HWC by itself-it tastes sweet to me.
Cindy-I admire you trying to keep your carb count in the single digits-wow! I would rather run 4 miles......LOL!
Well, better go make breakfast for everyone
Becky

Becky, because of the wine especially, the ribs recipe is not really in tune with the WOE. I hate to post it in this thread b/c of that. If you do a search for Rachel Ray's braised short ribs I'm sure it'll come up. If you don't find it, send me your email and I'll send it to you. I just hope it's good!

Sandy, glad I stuck to my guns this morning as I didn't get hungry till after 1pm Then I had an Oopsie with 5 oz raw 80/20 hamburger fried, 13 grams of red onion (yes, I weighed it. This woe is great when your obsessive compulsive!) and a tablespoon of Heinze LC ketcup and a few dark green lettuce leaves. Very good. Dinner is a Mama Lupe tortilla (3 carbs) and 5 oz of hamburger again.

We plan on taking the horses tomorrow to a big park to ride and my truck/trailer haven't been out since I bought the trailer in January so taking the jumper cables with me.

Warm today, maybe the warmest so far. I think 80 degrees. Rained this morning. My flowers are very happy with this spring.

Both cats sound asleep. My oldest cat, from here on out will be designated DC15 as opposed to my other cat, DC14 is exhausted from chasing a small garden lizard that got trapped on the deck! Oh, my the fun of a toy that will play back with you!

Zilla - thanks for the duck pics! I missed them!

Sandy - I hate when they do that! If we're in that much danger it's probably too late!

Becky - I'd have so much more time in my life if I gave up TV!

How fun!

I hope I remember DC is "dear cat" otherwise . . . . your "dear child" chasing after a lizard would be a whole different thing - especially if DC eats it!

Hi...

Gary came to Indy for lunch as there were no lights in Neodesha.. I was perfect and had an Arby's turkey bacon salad..very good..He had a wrap..

I love the term "DC" for our kitties..I think Mr. Alex will be DC12..He is so spring chicken, but in pretty good shape..

June was married for 31 years to her ex..Then they got divorced for 12 years..Both of them never remarried. I don't think she is going remarry him..She is "gunshy"..I told her to get back on the Will..LOL

We get our tornado information from Channel 2 in Tulsa. They only stay on the air if there is a tornado heading straight for someone's house. If there is just a watch, they report during the commercials..LOLO...Tornado Katie..I saw the last of Survivor..

MKay: Who is going to be home this summer? Just ds16?

Hi Carolyn - I'd use DC too - but I can never remember how old they are!

This summer I'll have DS16, DS20 and for about 6 weeks DD22.

So mainly boys.

I think I missed your anniversary!

Carolyn,I have very good friends at 61st and McGee.

I have 2 loaves of Amish cinnamon bread in the oven. Some one gave me the starter that is milk, sugar and flour and allowed to ferment on the counter for 17 days. Then you add more milk, sugar and flour. Divide it up and at that point you can make bread and have 4 more starters. It is definitely not LC. 1 starter makes 2 loaves of a sweet cinnamon cake and 4 more starters to give friends. It only takes 10 days when you get a starter but 27 days if you start from scratch.

Gorgeous night here! I had to drag the cats off the deck!

Hello dear friends from Domincan Republic.

I finally got a chance to get on the computer, we set it up in DD's room so I haven't been in here much.

Wedding was at 5:00 today on the beach and it was beautiful as was the reception. I just came back to DD's room to put DGS 11 months to bed, he stay up 2 hours past his normal bedtime and was so good but he was so ready to bed.

I have been more than busy with DGS 11 months here and the 3 year old triplets, and helping out DD the bride, so I am looking forward to getting to relax a little more the next 3 days and then it will be time to fly home.

Very pretty here, pretty warm and humid but if in the pool that doesn't matter and so far it has cooled down pretty good at night.

Haven't caught up on the past 2-3 pages so hope everyone is doing great.

My eating has been very good, all LC except for wedding dinner tonight, I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted. But, back to LC tomorrow.

Probably won't post again until I get home, so hope you all are doing great.

hi everyone.
i have decided to give up CO for a while.
i have been battling cold sores this winter and even though CO is supposed to be antiviral, i am wondering if it has some of the same properties as nuts!?
nuts stimulate these types of sores.
i had this same problem a few years ago when that lettuce shortage was happening; i just switched to fresh spinach and ate it everyday in salad.
had such a response. terrible. new cold sore every week it seemed.
when i quit the spinach the problem disappeared.

so since i no longer eat spinach, have infrequent chocolate and not too many nut products, i am eyeing CO as the culprit (have also discovered that CO does not do a lot of what it claims)...
since i'm not working the cold sores are not as big a deal but who wants that stop light glaring from the lip. i'll never get kissed??

if you have any other suggestions, let me know. i can't take lysine since it increases my liver enzymes so am looking for the cause....

thanks.

Weeeelllll, not so good today. I at 1950 calories and my carbs were netting at 42. But I did go out to Thai food with DH for lunch and was good there, I got the salmon in red curry (it's salmon and red curry sauce, that's it) and resisted the egg rolls he was digging into, the coconut juice I love, and the rice. I did minorly lose it over some dark chocolate covered almonds today that I"m just not going to buy again for a loooong time. I did go for a 4 mile run with dog today so at least that's something. Probably still burned more than I took in, but man this weight is coming off slower than slug slime. Oh well, tomorrow is a fresh new day and I will do awesome! short run, my DD wants to run with me as I bought her her first pair of jog shorts (they're pink with reebock on the rear-so cute!) and as she's five we'll probably only do a couple miles. She normally walks a couple miles with me 2 days a week and can sprint interval them so I'm sure she can jog it. Both my kids are long and lean, I hope they can learn good lifestyle choices so they can stay that way!
As far as CO goes, I notice that my skin breaks out if I eat a lot of it-a small amt and I'm fine, but a tablespoon of the oil a day and I get mount vesuvius on my face-no cold sores though. Haven't had one of those in years (knock on wood). have you tried topical lysine? maybe that wouldn't make your liver enzymes go up but it'll still target the cold sore? Garlic is supposed to help...sounds like you already cut out the arginine foods-sorry
Buffy-sounds like you're having fun even if it is full of busy little ones-enjoy the DR!
Cindy-glad I didn't have to resist the amish bread! I've made that before, it's good
Tomorrow we get our new chicks-that's always fun The kid's love holding them.

Yeah, well, Becky, I DIDN'T resist it! This was my first binge since starting LC in January. I started VLC about 3 days ago and think that may have been the problem. I need more bulk in my diet to feel satisfied and I was running around busy yesterday and just got a BAD case of cravings about 9pm. Oh, well, good lesson learned. Going to stay on my 60/30/10.

I don't know if we had a wind storm last night but when I got up my table with umbrella on the porch was blown over. I slept right through it! Probably a carb coma!!

Taking my horse out to meet my friend at a big horse park called Blue and Gray Park. The Battle of Lone Jack was fought there. There are 3000 acres to ride on and my horse loves to see his friends (my friends horses). My horse's name is Victor and he is such a baby. I bred his mother (she's 27 now) and got him. He just turned 9.

I'm a long, long, time cold sore sufferer. A long time ago I read an article about them and since using the techniques in this article I've reduced my cold sore frequency and duration if I get one.

First sign of the sore: Hold an ice cube directly on the spot as long as you can stand it. Do this more than once.

Second: Coat the spot with Vit. E oil. I just poke a hole in a capsule and keep it in a med. bottle. Keep it covered with the Vit. E oil as much as you can. The article said nothing can grow under the oil.

I promise this works for me like a miracle!!! I hope it works for you as well. Sometimes just the freezing does the trick and they don't even end up coming all the way out.

Well, MK, I might not've eaten any Amish bread, but I ended up eating poorly last night. We ended up eating the short ribs for dinner and I had a bit of polenta with them. They were wonderful, btw. And then DS stopped by and DH and he were having a beer on the deck and ........well, I had some too. Why do I do this to myself?????
So back at it today!!

hey, guess what i got at costco yesterday? the ice cream ball. it only makes a pint but that's okay. i guess there's a bigger size that makes a quart but i haven't seen it. anyway, it was $17.49. REI has them for about $25. the nice part is that i can use it anywhere including home w/o being tied to the kitchen.

One reason I have been pretty good is that this is an all inclusive so the food is decent but not awesome, thus easy not to over indulge. Tonight we are going for Japanese though and I have heard it is the best place on the resort.

Jem, what works for my family on cold sores, pimples or canker sores is to soak a cotton ball with listerine and press against the sore as often as you can remember to do so, or if canker sore, swish and hold listerine on the sore as long as you can stand it, as often as you can. Works well for all of us.

Most of our group has had a little upset but some of us have not. Seems the ones who have have drank the fruity drinks. I only drink white wine or rum/diet coke and take immodium everyday anyway to help with the metformin problems I have so I have had no stomach upset. Have had trouble with swelling in my ankles, which i get when I fly, but it usually goes away once I arrive. It is so humid here it did not. Got ahold of some lasix and that did the trick.

Happy weekend everyone!

Hi everyone..and Buffy..Sounds like a great trip so far..and good weather to boot..

Jem: Coconut oil can "bring out the impurities" and cause a detoxing..Some peeps "symptoms" get worse before they get better. You must be very sensitive to some
ingredient..in spinach..? But, Dr. Sandy came up with a good solution..Vitamin E..

MKay: Beth works at the UMKC..She plans the events for the graduation, etc..She could get her Master's for basically free there if she wanted to..I think she doesn't really want to go back to school that badly..OK..Now I remember about your dd choosing grad school over summer stock..So, you will enjoy her for a little while before you move her to NY..Is she getting an apartment or living in the dorm?

You guys..talking about the Amish bread. It's the devil's own recipe..full of sugar..Peeps try to tempt with a starter..I just say "No"..

Gary is working today, then he will start and finish the baseboard in the basement..He is leaving for Germany next week..

Carolyn, it is the devils recipe! The recipe makes 2 loaves so I took 1 on the ride to give to my friend and left 1 for my BF for when he got home. I came home from my ride today, he had eaten 3/4 of the loaf! Made 2 more tonight, 1 for here and 1 for work as I am giving one of my friends at work a starter.

Great weather here in KC. The ride was great. My horse loves my friends horses and always gets so excited to see them. I tell everyone he is like a 1300 pound puppy!

DC15 is laying on the deck on lizard patrol and DC14 is on the footstool winding down for the night, as I feel myself doing. Work tomorrow. Have a great Mothers Day all!!

thanks everyone. the topical ideas are good but i hope to stop them before they surface.
carolyn, i've been using CO long enough to have passed detox, plus they've become more frequent instead of less.
and spinach is on the list of no no's. occasionally any of these items are okay, just not on a regular basis.
i went for years w only occ cold sores. i don't know what happened.
my immune system would be suspect except that i never get sick....not even a cold this year.
hey, here's a thought; maybe it's connected to menopause.
whatever it is, it is. if removing CO doesn't make the dif, i'll use it again. i missed it this morning and my smoothie didn't stay w me as long.
so sad.

I'm sure you did your research on cold sores..I checked on one site and it gave a homemade recipe...Plus, it said that cold sores might be caused by a lack of calcium..
And, it also said to change your toothbrush after each attack.. Good luck..what a bummer, Jem.

Have a happy work day, Cindy..

and, a very happy Mother's Day to all our mothers here..

Hi all, went to the movies today with my family to see star trek and I brought my own chocolate (the guylian truffles with high fiber and low sugar) and then we went to DQ and I ate an ultimate burger without the bun/sauce so I did pretty well! I made these delicious chicken breasts for lunch today, I mixed in the costco pesto (thanks for the recommendation!) in cream cheese and stuffed 4 flattened chicken breasts, rolled in half, wrapped in tin foil and baked-yum!

protein's a bit high, calories ideally would be at 1500 but 100 over isn't too bad, and my carbs are dang good for eating 8 truffles (thank you guylian!) and I had a big serving of fresh green beans at lunch (in bacon grease) so I"m much happier than yesterday. Tomorrow I'm planning coconut flour pancakes for breakfast

Good Morning ladies (my apologies to any gents present)

I don't get to post here much but I make sure that I get a look in to see who's been doing what and why, that Amish bread sounds delish but I couldn't trust myself to eat an ickle bit it would be the whole loaf. However saying that I have mananged to ditch the 4lbs I gained through pure gluttoney the week before last and I'm now back to where I started.
At our weekly production meeting this past Friday everyone except me ate Devils Food Cake, this was homemade and covered in thick yummy icing drools.. and to prove a point to myself that I do have the 'power' I tortured myself even further by playing 'mother' and cut the damn thing up for everyone.

I hope everyone has a great week ( I will get round to remembering everyone's names one day) you ladies and this thread is what keeps me on the straight and narrow especially when I'm at work and I shall be making some of Carolyn's delish chocolate cookies to take with me this week. There's only so many pork scratchings you can eat! Regards to all..

Lygia - names are so hard! I appreciate when people put them in their signature or at the bottom of their posts. You played "mother" !! You're very brave!

Becky - did you like the movie?

Carolyn - I knew she worked there!
DD22 is looking for an apartment on line - I'm not sure if they have grad dorms . . . .
I hope she can find a good one that also is good when she gets there - not just pretty in the pictures.

Cindy - I knew it! When you said DC15 was on lizard patrol - I pictured a 15 year old boy . . . .

Buffy - I'm glad you're having fun! and elevate your ankles - that's right, just laze around! Doctor's orders!

Sandy - the food sounds wonderful - but I understand - I need to rein myself in too!
DD22 and I walked over 5 miles yesterday- so that should help!

Happy Mother's Day everybody! My DH gave me a beautiful rose of all different colored roses and they smell divine. And he made me breakfast and coffee.

My son is having dinner at his house today. He's smoking meat and all the guys are bringing sides. That ought to be interesting. My DH bought tater salad. Which is NOT like mine, lol.

Have a great one everybody!
