Introductions and few questions
Hi,
My name is Veronica . After exercising and dieting on low fat or low calorie cycling diet for 9 weeks and losing 5 pounds! yes only 5! I am sick of it . I was even doing this in conjunction with balancing protein and carbs for each meal as detailed in the Insulin Resistance diet.I recently read the 30 day Low Carb Diet Solution by the same people who wrote Protein Power and it convinced me to try it. Recently I have tried: 2 days of South Beach (too tasteless, too much trouble for so little satisfaction w/too much hunger), 5 weeks Insulin Resistance Diet (kept hunger under control, but I only lost 2 pounds - too many calories while eating carbs) 4 weeks calorie counting on Sparkpeople.com and cycling them- lost 3 pounds. I decided to go back to low carb. I had done it before and lost, but it was so difficult on me to do Atkins induction. So I picked up The Thirty Day Low Carb Diet Solution by the same people who did Protein Power and decided to try it. The first two days were not much of a problem, but then I saw the Eat Fat, Get Thin thread. I have read enough to think it might be for me. I worried about eating too much fat and too much protein at the same time. I am a healthy 42, 5'0 tall (another shorty to add to the group) femaile and I am at 132 pounds. My Short term goal- 120 Realistic long term goal 110 Dream weight - 100 (I was that for years until my 30's) Now that I practically told you my life story I have a few questions for the experts. Has anyone had to deal with horribly slow weight loss even while cutting carbs? Is there anything to watch out for as far as making you stall? Do treats like low carb muffins (maybe 2 or 3 grams of carbs) and the like fit into this program. Thanks for any answers. |

Veronica,
Welcome, welcome..We love life stories. As we age, it is harder to lose weight...even when cutting carbs unless you have a fast metabolism. Bad carbs make me gain. Too much protein makes me stall. Even too many carbs make me stall. First of all, get your protein under control and balance it out during the day. You are short, so probably your protein should be around 60-70 grams a day to start off with. Eat green veggies/olive oil/coconut oil/butter and see where that takes you at first. Start losing, then try the muffins. It's not the carbs sometimes, it's the type of carbs and what they do to your blood sugar/insulin. Join us in our No Fooling Around thread.. and welcome.

Carolyn,
Thanks a bunch. I will keep the 60-70 grams of protein in mind. I believe that is what I had figured out. I think you are correct about the type of carbs. |

Hi all, my body is giving me the hardest times too.
I can't seem to lose weight for nothing. Stillmans to low carb, and still weighing the same or more. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I just can't get into the groove. Sooooooooooo sad! |

I get a couple of pounds off then it's back, then no budge. I'm eating little but not starving, a lot of fat, Very little carb and in ketosis. Maybe I should test my thyroid numbers. It is frustrating. |

For those of you in distress above, I feel that EFGT is a great diet but IMHO, calories do count, especially those of you closer to your goal weight. Get on Fitday, track you calories and percentages religiously and you will be surprised when you notice a trend. Weigh/measure EVERYTHING. A friend at my horse barn complained of the same thing. She was frustrated because she couldn't lose weight but ate healthy. One of her fav snacks was walnuts. Walnuts in moderation are fine. But I can easily eat 1 cup at a time (at close to 800 calories!) so portion control is key. She started doing Fitday and the next time I saw her, she said she had lost 10 pounds. A few mindless things she was eating was doing her in.
Fitday is great for EFGT because it tracks grams and percentages. You've got to knuckle down and weigh everything. I'm in maintenance and I track and weigh EVERYTHING or I will backslide. We are all here to help but try this. You may be surprised to see where all the calories are adding up. Don't crash diet. 1200-1400 is way low enough. I lose on 1500. |
