Summer Time Coming - My Review of Ice Cream Makers
I have tried just about every kind of ice-cream maker there is. Paid enormous amounts of money for those ones with the gel filled cylinders you put in the freezer - take forevvvver to get cold enough to make ice cream....so got an icecream maker with two cylinders...they take up a lot of space in my small little freezer too.
This is the easiest one I have found. Just use ice cubes out of an ice tray and don't even need rock salt - regular salt will work just fine. Camper's Dream Ice Cream Ball at REI.com Camper's Dream Ice Cream Ball at REI.com Don't even need electricity! I got mine at REI, but they have them in a lot of places that sell camping equipment for obvious reasons - no electricity needed. I got the quart one and that size takes regular ice cubes - don't know about the pint size one. I just rolled it back and forth and played around with it while watching t.v. and of course if you like whipped cream on your ice-cream, you can always either whip it with a mixer or get one of these..... White iSi Mini Whip (Half-Pint Size) - Whipped Cream and Dessert Maker White iSi Mini Whip (Half-Pint Size) - Whipped Cream and Dessert Maker I am learning that very low carb, high fat is the way to go.....what a yummy way to enjoy FAT!

I am hoping it is OK to put in my 2 cents. I didn't know this exsisted until I looked up "ice cream makers" on E-bay. It is an ice cream maker attachment for your Kitchen Aid. It is a thick, insulated bowl that you keep in the freezer. It comes with a dasher that fits where your wisk does. You snap the bowl in place, start the machine on low, pour in ingrediants and in 7-20 min, depending on whether it's LC or not, you've got great ice cream. Wash bowl, back in freezer to use again. Cost is about $80.

Is Polydextrose allowed on this plan, to make ice cream keep its texture?

Egg yolks work wonderfully as a thickener too.

i bought the ball at costco and mixed up custard (added a little gelatin for texture). then i went to fill the ball w ice cubes and was so disappointed that i could not fit them around the cream container. i need smaller ones. so i put the custard in a jar and stuck it in the freezer then removed it after a bit and gave it a spin w my stick blender. it was good. and i am returning the ball to costco.
