sjl330 03-31-2009 07:48 PM

Present, lolol.

fourstubbs 03-31-2009 08:18 PM

I'm here too. I weighed in at 193 this morning!!! Up 2+??? Oh well, I think it was something salty I had eaten...my waste measurement was down 1/2 inch so YAY for that, at least! I like the new name we have...perfecto!!! Hope all of you had a great day, I am back to work tomorrow...it was nice for a couple days off, but now I go back nice and refreshed. Mary

Buffy45 03-31-2009 08:48 PM

Leaving my scent :hyst::hyst:

TuscanGirl 04-01-2009 05:44 AM

Morning!

Sorry I haven't been holding up my end around here - it's just been so busy!

I have the huge PEO meeting today - all 7 of the city's chapters and my chapter is the host this year, so guess who gets to make the "Welcome" speech!

Then DD22 and I are off the Syracuse early tomorrow morning.
I hear it's supposed to rain - a lot - the whole time we're there.
Great! :annoyed:

TuscanGirl 04-01-2009 05:45 AM

Is there an exercise tracking thread too?

CindyCRNA 04-01-2009 06:02 AM

Good morning, all. 124lbs still so good start to the month. Did all the hormone talk scare Gord off of the last thread! haha Go in to work at 11:00 for 20 hours so i hope it is fairly quite. Hope everyone has a great day!

Buffy45 04-01-2009 06:51 AM

Morning all. Gord will show up, we never know when so we have to somewhat behave :hyst:.

I still haven't weighed, will report in when I do.

Had a rough night, could not sleep and couldn't quit thinking of my dear friend and her family after going by the house yesterday and then to the visitation last night. They really did have it set up beautifully though, lots of family pictures, candles and strings of white beads running through the displays, it was lovely. My friend was doing pretty well under the circumstances but told me that she just feels so empty. I will be glad for them when today is over and they can get some rest.

When I couldn't sleep I finally got up and ate a bowl of cereal and milk, always works to put me to sleep but yi yi yi, my blood sugar was way to high this morning. I didn't eat any protein with it which made it worse. But, it did finally put me to sleep and that was at 4:00 am.

MK, your life is a whirlwind! Have fun and we will hope the rain stops.

I like clean "drawers" myself ;)

CarolynF 04-01-2009 07:28 AM

Good morning everyone..

MK: I will put the tracking thread up..Thanks for the reminder..duh..You will do fine on your speech..You go girl!!! Have fun in Syracuse..:)

Mary: Salty things make us gain. But, drink your water and you should be fine..

Cindy: Yeah, for you..you skinny thing, you. Have a happy 20 hours of working..

Buffy: I hate not sleeping..Now, have you tried Sleep MD? or melatonin under your tongue before bed? Those things help alot. It's terrible when our minds
whirl around and I'm sure thinking of your dear friend's terrible loss is very upsetting..

Sandy: How's your dad doing?????

Well, I got up at 5:30 to exercise at 6:30..home by 7:45 waiting for the floor
man..Called at 8:45..He called me back saying he had a small job to finish up.
Then he will be here at 11:00..No biggie, except I have a lunch date at 11:30 with my exercise friends. Soooo..if he can't make it by 11:00, then he will call me and we will make it at 12:45 or so. I'm hoping that he can get both floors done by tonight.

:) We are using the bathroom downstairs..So...I think I ran the stairs several
times during the night. I won't drink so much tonight...Duh!!

First Day

Hello everyone - I would like to introduce myself, my name is Carla and I am starting Eat Fat, Get Thin today. I have been trying to low carb on my own and it's just not happening like it did 5 years ago. So I came across this program here on LCF and it looks like a good program. I started tracking on ****** as much as I hate tracking I know that is a key in all this.

I am still very confused about the ratios and numbers. I ordered Barry Groves latest book the Nutrition one and it is being shipped from Amazon.

If I am understanding right I would do the 1500 calories and such ratios I seen posted.

I will be turning 40 in January and I want to be at goal before that.. finally to goal after working on my weight for 12 years. At my heaviest I was 296 and have gone up and down for 12 years .. the lowest I have been is 169.

Confused :stars: and wanting to succeed :aprayer:... Love a challenge and the advice and encouragement I find on LCF. :hugs:

Jean@125 04-01-2009 07:55 AM

Hi everyone,
I would like to try this plan as well. I tend to get depressed when I eat low carb for more than a couple of months. Do we start out with the 1500 cals and percentages in the Linda Sue sticky? Thanks for any newbie info or advice. I do have the NHWL book but didn't really feel like I got a firm grasp on how to implement the plan. I will take it out and reread to see if it helps.

Buffy45 04-01-2009 08:06 AM

:welcome: Jean and Carla!

Lise 04-01-2009 08:15 AM

Checking in....:D

207.5 this morning

Tickled pink that Barry also answered my question on the T & T thread....kinda goosebumpy that he takes the time to help us out...

Must fly...have a great EFGT day

GregsHoney 04-01-2009 08:46 AM

Okay, I will commit also. I have been reading LCF for the last couple of months and couldn't decide which way to go. I am going to go back and reread the posts and leave the other diet plans alone. Wish me luck.

Lise 04-01-2009 08:57 AM

:welcome: Carla, Jean and Honey ;)

please post a lot so that we get to know you and also so that we can help you as you start out....

carla70 04-01-2009 09:19 AM

i am just confused on what to eat..lol But I am reading menus and such to get a better idea. Knowing Atkins it is in my mindset to have only 20 carbs but this doesn't seem to be set to that right? it will be in your ratio??

Lise - did you do WW ... seems to me I remember you from there.

Lise 04-01-2009 11:24 AM

Hi Carla...yes I went to WW in 2006...I lost a lot of weight but stopped when I got sick with pancreatitis...I never did go back and of course gained most of it back....*sigh

I sometimes wonder if the low fat had something to do with my illness...:dunno: but I do know that I will never go low fat again....and I'll never ever go high carb...

Hey Carla and welcome!!! I think I know you from the WW thread a few years ago. You were selling your house and moving, right? How have you been, girl?? You'll love it here and promise, it gets easier as you go with the ratios.

Welcome! Do you have any of the books? That helps a lot but the sticky with EFGT info explains it pretty well too. And we're all happy to help where we can.

CarolynF 04-01-2009 12:02 PM

Yes, a heartfilled welcome to our new friends..Carla, Jean, and Honey.

Basically, Barry's contention is that we eat too much protein (a la Atkins). First of all, we should determine the amount of protein that we should eat..Basically women should eat between 60-80 grams a day. Too much protein turns into glucose and this is not a good thing. We want to get our energy from food fat and body fat.

It's always good to start with a certain amount of food/calories to know what's going on with your body. It's not a calorie counting thing, however, portion control is very important. Carbs should be veggies/some fruit..And everyone's carb allotment is different, of course.

HTH..

Floor peeps are working..Nice couple who live in a camper at the State Lake..they just moved to town..)

carla70 04-01-2009 12:03 PM

Yes I remember you too Sandy - and wow what a memory. We moved three years ago and last summer built a new house.

Now that you say that Lise I remember you were in the hospital and was very sick. I didn't stick with WW very long, first I couldn't do it on my own and then the meeting got way to expensive for me.

I think with the book and all the help on here I will be able to get a grip on this plan. The ratios and numbers at first are a bit intimidating.

So if I go with the numbers on the thread with Linda Sue's numbers and eat not over those amounts I should be doing it right???? I am in the 1500 calorie range if I figured correctly. I am tracking in ******.

How many of you incorporated some fruit into your diet or cottage cheese?

I read that you can eat all the meat and veggies .. but there is daily allowances so this isn't a totally true statement right?
I can't wait to read the book and get more insight.

For lunch I know I did bad had chicken thighs with a little shake n'bake on them. Also had faux potatoes which I think are ok on this plan.

sjl330 04-01-2009 12:14 PM

There really isn't anything "off limits" as long as the ratios are right. A lot of peeps can't handle any type of grains so veg/fruit choices are usually always good. But I don't think a little bit of shake/bake crumbs will hurt you too much. Just count it in your daily food and see how your ratios come out.

Good to have you here Carla.

CarolynF 04-01-2009 12:15 PM

Carla: I think it is a good idea to "get an idea" of what you should eat by using the ratios at first. Linda Sue gave us a ballpark amount and this is very helpful getting us started.

You should eat LC veggies and meat and fat. However, it's not an all-you-can veggie feast, either. Keep your LC veggies to sensible amounts, filling in with protein and fats.
A bit of fruit should always be eaten after the meal to slow the insulin rush down.

:) HTH

carla70 04-01-2009 12:16 PM

Thanks Sandy and Carolyn that helps a lot!!!!

No I don't have the book at this time. If I have trouble getting results, I will have to get my hands on one.

I was diagnosed about this time last year as diabetic, but only diet controlled. I was sent home with a copy of the ADA diet, which quickly put 5 pounds on me before I decided to return to low carbing. With diabetes and menopause I had slowly put excess pounds on and now I am hoping to remove them again.

CarolynF 04-01-2009 12:23 PM

Honey,

I'm sure you will do fine on this plan. Barry has a whole chapter on Diabetes and feels a LC diet is the only way to go. He doesn't think much of grains as they cause a huge rise in
blood sugar. If you are only diet controlled, then you probably have to be pretty perfect
to control your sugars. Buffy here is diabetic..Hope she pops in.

Good to have you here Carla.

What do you mean there really isn't anything "off limits" .. so if you wanted a piece of bread or a potato and it fit into the ratio for the day you could on occasion?

The ratios are for the entire day right? Is there per meal ratios also??

CarolynF 04-01-2009 12:45 PM

Carla: Everyone is different. Some peeps can have a piece of bread or a small tater and they still lose weight..Some can't. The ratios are for each meal..not the whole day.
Barry explained this to me once. The ideal is to have every meal the correct ratio.

carla70 04-01-2009 12:49 PM

Ok - so am I getting this right. There is a entire day ratio you stay within (ex. the 1500 cal or 50 g. of carbs). but there is also each meal ratios to stay within also? I am being lazy and having ****** track for me so do I just enter each meal there? Not sure how to get it do that?

I am too full of questions..lol

LBishop 04-01-2009 01:24 PM

Hi everyone, wow, I have been gone most of the day and you all have been busy. Welcome to the newest members. I'm new too and waiting for my book to come. I am not new to low carb though. I just realized my ratios were much closer to EFGT so I thought I'd get the book. I'm losing so I want to read the book to fine tune a little and see what I can do. I also have kidney stones and have been told to lower my animal protein consumption so I'm interested in keeping the protein on the lower side anyway. I naturally don't eat alot of meat anyway, so it's been easy for me. I'm also finally getting exercise every day. I found a great deal today while stopping at a local Habitat Thrift Store. I found the original Callanetics video and grabbed it up for $1. I keep reading the raves about it and wanted to start it so now I can. The only thing is, I can't copy it to dvd because it says it's copyrighted. Anyone know if there is a way to get by that?

Well, I'm sure not the best example here to follow, but yes, if I want a piece of toast or a potato I will have a little and count it. When something is "not allowed" that's exactly what I want. I'm lucky that I can get by with doing that. Everybody is different and so your mileage may vary. It's a lot of finding what works for you too. You can check out tons of info at Barry's site too.
I think it's:

Somebody posted the link earlier if that doesn't work.
