Morning everyone.
Safe travels to all of you who are going somewhere over the Easter weekend. We will be saying put right here. Wow, the ducks are growing sooo fast and a new baby. They really are pretty, thanks for the pictures Zilla. Our lodge is serving a Easter dinner tomorrow night and having an Easter Egg hunt for the little ones so the triplets and maybe the DGS 9 are coming to that and bringing their parents along for the dinner. No cooking for me, yeah! Have a much needed pedicure appt. at 12:00 today, then a few errands. Probably about all I will accomplish today.

Hi gals and Gord.
Gosh, Mary Kay..Can you and Sandy and Cindy get together??? It's hard around the holidays with all the "stuff" going on. We are heading to Manhattan tomorrow..See Brett, Beth and Shawn will join us Sunday. I don't think us Midwesterners will have a very warm Easter.. I'm sure Cindy will have alot of Easter babies to deliver. |

JJ is the chocolate brown duck. Bungie is the black and greyish/yellow one with the eye stripe.
I thought JJ was a boy, but we think we are hearing QUACKing noises out of JJ. QUACKING means a girls. Boys just make raspy peeping noises. JJ's voice is still changing right now so she/he just sounds ridiculous...LOL We won't know about Bungie until next week or so. Hopefully its a girl. |

Good Evening All,
Just finally getting here. Life and work has been a tad hectic lately. Glad to have been off today, got caught up with a few things and chores too. Eating on track, did arm weight routine today and some little extra add ons here and there throughout my day. Was hoping to reach 125# before leaving for vacation next Thursday. I am stuck at 126.8#. I guess I should be grateful for that at least. Waving to All. Susan |

Hi everyone..
JJ is a girl..hurray!!! and I'm hoping that Bungie is a girl, too..Gosh, Zilla, we are learning alot of duck stuff from you...I'll pass that on to my kids this weekend. Yeah, Susan..you will be down in no time. What is everyone doing for Easter? Easter will be a cheat day for me because we are going to the Brookville Hotel, fried chicken, etc. served family style. We went out to get all the molly bolts, etc. to hang the bathroom stuff. However, Gary is doing Brett's taxes to take to him tomorrow..Much more important than a towel rack, huh? It looks like Brett didn't get an internship this summer..(very difficult this year). So..he is taking a class on campus, staying in his apartment and maybe helping a teacher do some research. That is a good thing..

Carolyn, we just had our master bath re-done as it was 17 years old and dated. New tub (whirlpool) glass block shower, 8' vanity, Travertine (cross between marble and granite) on the floor. Painters have to come back and re-paint the wall due to bad prep and then window covers. Then the bedroom. I'm tired of sheet rock dust.
I also love those tub cookies. My BF loves cookies and the chocolate/chocolate chip are fab! Not that i would know. I always have to ask people how my baked stuff is as i don't eat it. I also have a few boxes of the frozen dough blobs so i can make him 6-8 fresh baked cookies and them they are gone. My cheat meal is this Wednesday. We are doing Italian at a restaurant at Town Center called Bravo. I want the eggplant parmesan. Then it's home for Ghiradelli brownie sundae with dark, hot fudge, caramel and pecans. That is my fav dessert. Then back on the band wagon promptly. I have a cheat meal once a month and it is usually Mexican. |

okay, I finished reading the book today. I have to admit I was a little disapointed in it in some ways and thought it was good in some ways. I liked his explanation of how eating the fat helps us burn the fat and I get that. I love FAT!
I didn't love however the fact that he spends a lot of time discounting exercise. As a former fitness instructor and one who has recently taken up more serious exercise again, I know the benefits of physical activity and believe as Dr. ATkins says, "it's not an option" Dr Groves says it's optional. That's discouraging to me. I know it's not necessary for weight loss but it is so beneficial to condition the heart and lungs, and tone the muscles. However, I'm a big girl and can make my own choices. I choose to exercise and to do it regularly. He says it's not "natural" for people to exercise, but I don't agree. I believe we have come to a point in our society where physical work has been replaced with machines, but we didn't always have those and our bodies functioned very well with the work we had to do. I believe God created our bodies to function best in a fit state, not soft and under worked. I think He also gave us a built in desire to be physical, and we feel good after a good physical workout even if it's shoveling snow because our bodies were created to perform in those ways. and what about cardiovascular health? Strong, healthy bodies are subject to less injury and illness. It's a fact, so how can it be optional? Anyway, I will keep exercising, eating fat, staying low carb and at some point (trying to figure that one out now) start adding back in some good carbs as I near my goal.

Right on Leisa....I've always admired people who excel at athletics..
![]() I'm just not one of them.... ....whether I'm fat like now or thinner like I've been I've never enjoyed it even though I have gone through the motions and done it...I'm very happy to know that I can lose weight without it and save my time and energy for things I enjoy...![]() |

Good Easter morning to you all!
I never got the impression Barry was against exercise, just something he didn't require for his WOE. I believe he and his wife are both very active people. I doubt he recommends being a couch potato either, lol. But I say, to each his own. I too love to exercise, lifting weights, walking, etc. But I didn't always enjoy doing those things. I think as you lose weight and get older and start realizing your own mortality you come to realize how important exercising and eating right really is. Starting first thing tomorrow morning I need to get my rear back in gear and get the eating right part down pat again. I've been out of control!!! And the scale is sure showing my wayward ways too. I've been "Fooling Around" and I don't want to get kicked out of the "No Fooling Around..." challenge so I must change my ways. Have a wonderful day everybody.

I agree with you, Leisa. Although Barry is correct. You DON"T need to exercise to lose weight, I think you do yourself a great disservice. Weight bearing exercise builds bone mass, increases muscle mass which IS your metabolism, your body looks better and you feel a heck of a lot better. His statement is correct. But dieting is just a piece of the whole picture.
Sandy, I'm with ya! I'm not buying any more macadamia nuts any more. Those things call to me from the pantry all the time! Happy Easter to all. My BF got a card with a girl and a cat sitting on a bench. The little girl is thinking, "I hope the Easter bunny leasves a big basket of goodies" and the cat is thinking, "I hope he has a limp" ! Sicko! |

oh, hey, now that would be great. I'm always amazed at how the internet brings so many people together that would not otherwise have any contact. Amazing and SO cool! What other books has he written besides, Eat Fat, Get Thin? Do you think the other one/s are better? |

That's the only one I've read but Carolyn has read them all and really like the Natural Health and Weight Loss. I think that's the name. You can google his name or put in into amazon and search. I just have the e-book of EFGT.
He does pop by once in awhile and posts in the thread so he might just read this and jump in and give us some insight on the exercise question. |

I know, I'm sure that's not what he meant, but I didn't read it and was looking for it, is all I'm really saying. I just wanted to hear "stay active" or "don't sit around on the couch all the time" or something along those lines because I am quite sure that was what he meant, but didn't read it. That's my husbands one thing he's always pushing, just be active, don't sit...more activity.

Hey, little Easter bunnies! I LOVED that card...even before Sandy said I would.
Okay..on the exercise thing. Barry and Monica live in England. He is an archer, an avid gardener, they walk alot of places. So, they don't need to exercise because they are very active. Some of us need a "nudge" or a "push" because we are rather sedentary..KWIM? Honestly, losing weight is 90 percent what you eat. At least in my case. The only time I didn't gain weight on vacation was when we went to Quebec City and walked everywhere..for hours..daily..up hills, down hills, etc. We had a great Easter..It was really chilly (40's) in Manhattan, but my kids were there.. Went to church, then on to the Brookville Hotel..I carbed up a bit, but didn't stuff myself. Brett took all the extra chicken back to his apartment. I am kinda askeered to weigh tomorrow, but I will so I will be accountable............... |

What Barry says is excessive exercise is harmful - as in marathon running. He said we are built to have constant low grade activity - walking at a comfortable pace, lifting things (in modern terms, that would be a little weight training), and occasional sprints (to escape danger). Excessive exercise builds the appetite more than it burns calories. If we get adequate protein, we build muscle with little effort.
I think he just doesn't want people to think they have to do tons of hard exercise to lose weight as that does not work. But neither should we be total couch potatoes. He promotes a middle ground - that point where it is enjoyable but not excessive. |

Morning friends.
I haven't been on the scale lately but can tell by my clothes that my weight is up too. And, lately, I had been so happy that my blood sugar was staying in the acceptable range and I had been able to eat more carbs and it stayed that way, then, yesterday, it decided to go way up. I did eat some watermelon, I think that is probably what did it. So, going to be extra good today. I have noticed with the diabetes that when my blood sugar gets too high my vision gets blurry, that has happened to me for a long time, but I never realized what it was until finding out I had diabetes and checking my blood sugar. Office work today and as far as I know now, no errands to run. I usually pick up DGS from school on Mondays but since he has a baseball game tomorrow evening, we changed my PU day to tuesday this week. Wed. is DH birthday so I need to get a cake ordered to take to our lodge for him that afternoon. |
