Are there 2 Mary Kay's here now?

My DS19 actually used melatonin sublingual drops . . . . they helped him a lot.

I hope you get your results soon!

Good morning. I think I'll go find me some turnips today!

I'm up 4# from my birthday celebrating last week and it's sure acting like it's stuck like glue. Not good to be headed into Easter weekend for sure.

I'm heading to the gym this a.m. and then have youngest DGD this p.m. I think she's bringing her new puppy so Bailey and the pup can do some more 'bonding', lol. Bailey isn't sure what she thinks of this new furry friend. It's a Jack Russell terrier so is very high energy just like my Eskie. Just not near as much fur.

Buffy, hope you feel better today.

Hi guys..

I was a runaround today....................Too tired to do anything else now....Dinner will be rather scanty, I'm afraid..

Hope you guys like the turnip taters. I have found the "fresher" ones have a milder flavor.

I watch both..AI and BL at the same time switching back and forth. Too bad Sione went home, but he looks fabulous.

Ok, we had the turnip tater salad for dinner. I didn't tell DH anything and he didn't say anything, so I guess it was fine with him. For me, I thought the turnips were a little too soft. Maybe I cooked them too long. I wasn't sure how long to cook them since the only way I ever fix them is mashed with butter and cream and for that I want them soft. I might try again. When I bought them this a.m. the gals at the grocery asked me what in the world I was making with all those turnips. When I told them mock tater salad they asked me if I was a WW, lol. I told them "not anymore, I'm a low carber". They told me they wanted to know how it turned out, lol.

Carolyn, do you just steam, peel and dice the turnips? I like turnips so this sounds good. I'll go to the store tomorrow. Everyone on this thread will be eating turnips!

Carolyn, you said you were tired, which is my major complaint! Took the melatonin 2 nights in a row. A little afraid to last night because I was at work. Got called at 1:45 am for a c-section. Other than just a touch of light headedness upon arising a little too fast, my head cleared quick and I was able to get back to sleep when i got to bed at 3:00 and stayed asleep till 8:45 so this has been good. My friend who takes Rozerium (prescription for 8mg melatonin) was told by his doc that you have to take it for 2 weeks consistently to build up a level. As long as I'm not sleepy during the day.

Jem, that was a great idea to make clam chowder with turnips. Getting too warm now but I'll try that this fall.

Buffy, big hugs and kises! I HATE the flu! Especially stomach. I would have never made a good bulimic! Hope this passes quickly.

LOL..on the turnip tater salad..I quarter the turnips and boil them in water with some cream to take the bite away. I think the fork test is a good one. Taking them off before
they are ready to be mashed is probably a good idea.

OMGoodness...I had some tummy distress this afternoon. Bought some LC ice cream and some SF Hershey's syrup. The ice cream had 5 Sugar Alcohols and the Hershey's had 4..My tummy/lower digestive tract was not happy for about 5 hours..I think it was Breyer's....Sometimes it is better to buy no sugar added to avoid tummy distress I think or make your own. I thought they changed the recipe on the SF Syrup..no malitol now.
However, I will do a dry run with just the Syrup and see how that affects me.

Time for beddy bye............

After reading your post the part about "a dry run" made me chuckle, IYKWIM, lol. I hope your tummy is doing much better now. Those sugar alcohols can be so nasty! And can sure keep you running, lol. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Morning!

Carolyn - sorry you're "running" . . . . !! *snicker*

I discovered dark chocolate Hershey's syrup and us it if I need a chocolate fix. Anything SF is a bad idea for me!

Any clue if I could boil the turnips in Almond or Soy milk?

Hi..

Well, it took me 5 hours to recover from the SA..Gary had a big bowl with the syrup..and NOTHING!!! I wasn't really "running"..it was more tummy growling, etc..

Off to exercise ..then Christian Women's Club (Sirloin Stockade).

MKay: I do think that either soy or almond milk would work fine.

Cya later, gators..

Morning everyone.
I feel better now, just very tired.
I just can't get into cooking lately, can't seem to think of anything I want to cook, don't want to cook, yuck! I hate that. This was even before I got sick, hope it passes, usually I enjoy cooking.
I did feel good enough last night to go meet with my dinner club friends and was glad I got out. My friend who lost her DH came, she said it was really hard to make herself get out but she knew it would be good to do so. We were so glad she did, the exhaustion of the past months has really set in and she needs lots of rest but she needs her friends too.
DS and his bride of 8 months just bought their first little starter home, I am so happy for them and can't wait to see it. Her uncle is a realtor so hope he guided them along wisely.
I love tater salad so when I get the urge to cook again I will have to try that.

Buffy, so glad you're feeling better.

I have a huge day ahead of me. Cleaning a house for 3 hours (I'm a very part time housecleaner), then taking my girls to a library program at 4, then dd#2 to ballet from 6 to 7:30, then home for dinner! I am trying to read my book and am thoroughly enjoying it, but haven't had the time I want to just read. Yesterday I worked on my own house and steam cleaned a chair, went for a 3 mile run and then collapsed!

Have a great day everyone!

Leisa, my very best friend cleans houses. She loves the flexibility with her 2 girls as she can schedule smaller houses on days she needs to be home early. Plus, I have someone to call on how to clean a glass top stove (Easy Off oven cleaner, fumeless, left on for 2 hours)!

Carolyn, the nice thing about Netrition is that I can read the labels before I buy. I only get stuff with Splenda or erthritol. Malitol can really spike blood sugar. I hate it when they change a formula. You never think to look EVERY time you buy the same product.

The melatonin is helping. If I wake up, I fall right back to sleep which was a problem before. I am taking a prescription strength dose though. I feel better today.

Read something interesting yesterday. Vit A toxicity with taking fish oil capsules. Combine high dose fish oil (I take 6 of the big mega pills from Costco) with a daily MV that already has 5000 mg Vit A on top of too much fish oil can be toxic. I'm going to lay off both for a couple of weeks and see what happens. Thinking of switching to flax. I think Barry prefers flax anyway. I over do everything! And I just saw flax at Costco!

Hi..

I was good at CWC..When we go to a buffet, I only use one plate..Put a bunch of salad on one end, then some meat, veggies on the other end. Dessert was SF jello..

Cindy; You are right........Malitol will rip up your insides. Glad the melatonin is working for ya.

My standard tater salad is: LC veggie of your choice (cooked turnip, radish, cauliflower)
Mayo, chopped celery, chopped green or red pepper, chives or chopped onion, real bacon or real bacon bits, and hard boiled eggs.

Buffy: Glad you are better..Your life is so busy with kiddos and grandkiddos.. How fun for you. Take care and don't worry about cooking.

Leisa: I can barely stand to clean my house..LOLO.. My neighbor is a cleaning lady and makes about $15 an hour, so that's not too bad. She is kidless and married.

I hatched out 2 ducks last Saturday but one died

The one that is left seems to be doing OK. I think humidity and temperature issues caused developmental problems with the ducks. They had trouble with their feet and their eyes. The one that is still alive has vastly improved and its feet are flattened out now (the other one had curled feet that didn't want to lay flat). They also both had eye issues. We think the one that died (Tipsy) was partially blind.

Our remaining duck looks like it will be OK, though it may be blind in one eye. I named the little guy Uno

My "teenager" ducks are doing great.

This particular person I clean for pays me $20/hour, but I live by a resort that has several cabins and houses and they pay me $12/hour. It's very convenient though and I can actually walk. I have my 3 girls too and so when I clean the resort, they can actually run around on the grounds if they want and are not in the way. They usually run back and forth between home and wherever I am when I clean there. It's pretty cool. I'm like you though. I barely get my own house clean.

Oh, my Lord, Z., the babies are big! Ducks grow so quick. It's not a surprise the one duck died if it had club feet. Like people, club feet can also mean heart abnormalities. We rode our horses at a place im mid-Missouri that had a cat that was born blind. It had eye sockets and lids, just no eye balls. That cat was all over that compound, pulling the poor blind kitty act on everyone. Needless to say, it was fat!
