Cindy - I wish I had words of wisdom.
About 8 years ago (age 42) I had a complete hysterectomy.
I've been on the Climara patch ever since.

I don't have any menopause symptoms, but I have no clue if I should worry about being on it, or if I should get off.

My gyno has retired, and I've just been using my Internist.

This was from Carolyn in the menu thread:

Saturday:

Breakie: 2 eggs cooked in coconut oil, coffee with cream
Lunch: one fish fillet/one burger on top of a side salad,
Snack: SF mocha
Dinner: 2 salmon cakes out of a small pouch of salmon and cream sauce made with 1 Tbs. or so of cream cheese, melted into some half and half. It was all very nommie.
I shared some of the salmon with Alex.

Salmon patties were: one egg, 1/3 cup of shredded cheese, grated onion, and a small pouch of salmon. Get your coconut oil hottish, then plop 2 patties in the pan, spreading them out and flipping when the bottom is done.

regarding hormones.
When I started having hot flashes I was determined to tough it out, I had 4 babies, each pregnancy went great, so I didn't think I would have a problem. I had had a partial hysterectomy. One of my sisters has had breast cancer, not once, but twice, so I didn't want to take hormones. After about 2 years of the most horrible hot flashes and feeling like a 90 year old, fat, frumpy, bag lady, I heard about a doctor who specialized in bio-identical hormones. I went to her, she was shall we say, different??? But, she was my age, she also had hypothyroid and so we worked together on me for about 4-5 years. She really got me to feeling like me again, the only thing she could not get me to is weight loss, but in everything else I felt so much better. Then, she suddenly died of a heart infection and I was left without her, I went to several doctors, one who tried to duplicate what she had done for me and another who threw the blood test results that she had done on me, on the table and said in disgust, I have never even heard of half of this junk! Finally, as I was approaching 60 and my sister had successfully weaned herself off of hormones, I just gradually weaned myself off of them and I just have mild hot flashes anymore. And, the lower carbs I eat, the less hot flashes I have.
So, that is my experience, I would definitely check out the bio identical ones, if you have a compounding pharmacy in your area, they can usually give you a list of doctors in your area who will work with you. Good luck!

Maybe she could defer the school for a year and try the acting . . . I really don't want her to ask my opinion. I can see both ways!

Yes, more pics Zilla!
I guess ducks have to be more alert - or they'd get eaten by something!

How exciting for her!!! I'm glad it's not my decision to make - but, as a neutral observer with nothing at stake - It seems that the acting job could possible turn into her "big break" and if not school will still be there the next semester?

Buffy, We have a lot of gyn docs that will prescribe bioidenticals but only 1 (and I live in Kansas City!) that was "trained by the company that sells them" who actually did the training programs from the company. Case in point, my friends ob-gyn gave her a prescription for bioidenticals and that was it. No follow up labs, no nothing! Her breasts were sore, she gained weight and I said "Cindy," (she's a Cindy too) "Your doc should have been doing labs to see how these doses are affecting your hormone levels.!" I have only been do this 1 month and already have had 2 lab draws. It's not a one size fits all program. BUT I HAVE STILL GAINED 3 POUNDS!! I hope this settles down.

I am not on hormones cuz I had pre-cancer with my hysterectomy in 2003..I really never had any bad menopause signs, so I am lucky..Avoid them if you have to is my theory.

Time for bed..I guess..A big night of the Biggest Loser and American Idol.....Gosh, I love that Adam kid. He is soooooooooooooo terrific..(He's a musical theater major)..

Cindy, my breast were sore at first too, the Dr. said it was too much estrogen and lowered that part of it. It took 2-3 months to get to the dosage that seemed right for me.

a quick little duck story..............

Hi to everyone...........

Hope you don't mind me popping in, but when I was reading the posts about jj it reminded me what happened when I lived with my sister in Mississippi. They live on a property that has a lake, and for some reason, (I am a city girl, so please excuse my lack of knowledge with this) for some reason they had a few duck eggs because I think the momma died, they tried to hatch these eggs and only one little duckling half way pecked out of his egg. It was half dead, so i picked it up in a towel and kept it warm etc. I took care of him and held him alot and fed him, which was probably not good in hindsight. We named him lucky because well, he was lucky We built him/her a pen and one time when it was dark, (this little guy was still really small) I went to check on him and he was out of his pen!!! I was so worried about him, we started calling him, saying lucky duck, lucky duck.....and you would never believe that he heard us and came wandering back to us!!!! This is alot of land we are talking about!! I loved that little guy. It broke my heart to let him go back into the lake. None of the other ducks would let him swim with them, I hope he was fine. I had to leave MS so I never knew what happened to him, but he has a place in my heart. I am such a weenie.

Can't wait until the rest of the grandmas look at him/her. Where is our grandpa Gord?

Mary: Loved your little Lucky story..Don't ducklings bond with the person/animal that pays attention to them? Like you. Now, you can share in the grandmothering of JJ..

Morning.
Ahh, loved the video and fourstubbs, I loved your duck story. Yes, please stay and join in admiring JJ. I was telling DH yesterday about my online friend who had hatched a duck, he looked at me a little funny, but I said we have such a good time sharing things like that.
Today I am taking DD's MIL to lunch and shopping, got up to a cold rainy day, so not sure how nice it will be out but we have umbrellas.
Tonight is supposed to be dinner club but got an email first thing this morning that the one members DH is very bad and it could be anytime, so 3 of the gals are at the hospital with our friend, that leaves 5 of us. Not sure if we will go or reschedule. The wife has asked that just her 3 very closest friends and family be at the hospital right now and we respect that.
Ate good the past 2 days and I always feel so much better when I do that. Makes the sane part of my mind wonder why I stray???? The other part of my brain is yelling like a brat, I like it, I love carbs, I love junk, shut up sane brain.....

What a great way to start the day! Baby duck video! What a sweetheart. When I was little, our ducks would follow me all over the place. When I would run, they would spread their wings and run after me. Had a peer/friend call last night. There is an opening in October for a medical mission trip to the Philippines so it looks like I'm in. Sounds like fun and they are both good friends. We will stay over and do some scuba diving in the area after the week of surgery. A lot of fresh seafood! Tuscangirl, New hair! That is always scary. I think my hair has been the same for 10 years! Cold here this am. 17 degrees! It was almost 80 last week. Oh, well, this time of year. Oh, and Zilla, my cat looked over my shoulder and watched JJ video. No worries. She's 14 and can only look!

Buffy, I've been good the last 2 days too and I too am hearing those screams from within. It's been so hard not to give in to the "comfort" foods since I've been sick and just "know" they'd make me feel so much better. Ha!

Pretty much. That's why we put a mirror in the brooder, so it would look at another duck and not think it is a people. It does respond a lot to our voices because they start listening for mom in the egg. So it is bonded to us, but not TOO bonded.

Hi ladies...and Gord.

Did my faux Curves, then out to breakie with my friend. I only ate 1/2 of the frittata/fruit and brought it home for later. Stop when you are full..is my new rule.

What a great idea to let our kitties watch JJ's video..Next time Alex is on my lap, I'll turn it on. So, JJ is bonding with herself..Now, that sounds like a good idea for duckie self-esteem. This duck psychology is another world, huh?
Now, do we have any more little ducklings "in the oven"?

Sandy: Glad you are better..........

Yeah for Syracuse..I think of those top schools, Syracuse and Evanston would be the easiest towns to live in. I'm not sure I would want to live in NYC..Although, the "connections" are good..Yeah for your dd, Mary Kay.

Buffy: Prayers for your dear friend and her dh..What a really sad thing that is and he's so young..

Welcome, Mary..please post often..

Cindy: Good for you..How exciting that you are going on another Medical Mission trip plus having some "fun" afterwards..Now, which hospital do you work at? My dd had her thyroid surgery done at St. Johns on the Plaza last year.

Hugs all around.......

Carolyn, You probably mean St Lukes. The plaza is fun to walk around, especially in the spring. I work at Overland Park Regional. Tuscangirl, I noticed in one of your first posts you mentioned a "40 day plan". What is your 40 day plan? Also, have any of you made an "Oopsie" roll? I think I'll make them Friday. I made a chocolate cheesecake with Oreo crust and chocolate ganache and pecans on top for a friend at work, 2 batches of chocolate white chocolate chip cookies for workers that are here and a double batch of horse treats, oatmeal and molasses base witha peppermint on top, and I am not opening the oven again! Oh, except for meatloaf for dinner! I love to bake. I take it to work and let them eat it and don't even taste it. 1 taste is the kiss of death. My grandmother taught me how to bake. The first thing I ever made was a lemon meringue pie. She really never taught me to cook. Just bake. She was a good cook but she always felt baking was an art. Anyone can cook! Now I know that is not the case as cooking can be a much bigger art. I have a class I'm taking next week at someones house that teaches cooking. The menu is some kind of salad, chicken enchiladas and coconut cake. Wine is served and you sit and eat as she cooks and explains everything. I will have been LC for 2 months and this will be my second "planned" (Oh, I hate the word) binge. I usually don't feel well the next day. I go 1 month, then have a meal of whatever, then back on. Whats funny is that now that i have increased my fat intake, the binge doesn't look all that great, which is good!

That class sure sounds like a fun time Cindy. Have fun. Are the horse treats actually for the horses? They sound good enough to eat, lol.

I love to bake with my granddaughters. The older one and I used to pretend like we were the hosts of a cooking show while we cooked. She's in college now. And I just started with the youngest one. Her first item was a lemon meringue pie too! She was so proud. And it was very yummy too.

I just did our taxes this afternoon. I hate doing them but am so glad when it's over. I usually do them way before this. I'm running late this year I guess. Thank goodness ours aren't real complicated.

Chrissy is going to be a "mother"..Wow..Can't wait to see all the new babies, Zilla.

Cindy: I meant St. Lukes..duh..Boy you are a real cooking queen. Now, I hope you are visiting the Recipe Bulletin Board for new LC recipes..Linda Sue's site is fabulous..fabulous..Yes, I make Oopsies alot and love them..

Taxes?????????? Gary has to get Betty's lined up and he is taking ours to the accountant. We usually don't, but he hates to do them..

My dd enjoys cooking at home. I'm so glad that she does. It saves money and calories and she is very proud of her "cooking talents"..

I am making twice baked caulitaters tonight with a rotisserie chicken from Wallie.

Cindy,
I too like Carolyn have wrestled with ca. I have a pre-cancerous form of breast ca so I don't take hormones either. It is Lobular Carcenoma In Situ and has remained status quo for the past 5 years. I hope with a healthier lifestyle I can prevent it advancing. I am followed at a high risk breast ca clinic and they certainly would never permit HRT for me.

So all in all, I think each person has to consider their own situation. What you are willing to tolerate and how bad the S&S of menopause become for YOU.
I have had the hot flashes now for about 2 years, they are a nuisance more than anything but I can live with them.

Sandy, Good fer you getting those taxes done already! I have gathered our paperwork together. DH has done his online and sent it in already. Mine is a tad more complex so I take to a CA. We have until April to get ours in up here.

Zilla, I gotta go back now and view the video clip of that darling JJ. I told my DD about JJ and she would love to see the pics and video not sure how you send them on???

Carolyn, I am thinking of making a sirloin burger for dinner I may just try that bread recipe. You are certainly helping me christen my suppers this week. Thanks.

Hope to BBL to catch up with ye all.

All right, Oopsies are in the oven. I couldn't wait. I read the Ooopsie thread and took your advice Carolyn and used a muffin top pan that I have never used. I'm frying up a buffalo burger for lunch tomorrow and now have a bun but may have to have a warm Oopsie from the oven tonight. And yes, the horse treats are for the horses. Got the recipe off Recipezaar.com and tweaked it. The horses aren't LC though!

Cindy - My 40 day plan is for Lent. I just figured I could do anything for 40 days.
It's harder than I thought!
So I'm making sure I get exercise in and try to stay as OP as I can.

All right, ate 2 Oopsies with butter right out of the oven and taking the other 4 for work tomorrow (my shifts are 20 hours). One will be a buffalo burger with habenero cheese and CO mayo and the other is BBQ chicken breast with KC Masterpeice's low cal BBQ sauce. I need a copy of EFGT. I have Eat Fat, Look Thin but I need to look more carefully as I'm not sure if it talks about percentages. I'm having a hard time keeping my protein levels down. When you are LC, most things that have fat have protein. Tomorrow is about 110 grams fat and 112 grams protein and I'm not sure if that isn't too much.

Cindy: If you weigh 132, your minimum protein allotment should be around 65 plus grams of protein. You can allow more if you exercise. Barry usually recommends most women eat between 70-80 grams of protein. 112 might be pushing it, however, you are working for 20 hours, so you might need that much protein. The percentages should be 5-15 carbs/20-25 protein/60-70 percent fat..
