Morning, I mean afternoon, all!! Busy morning Got off work at 7:00.
MaryN: Welcome. I am from KC also and got my masters at UMKC. This is a great forum. This is a super group and i am glad I found it. Please keep posting. Jeff City is very pretty. Drove through there pulling the horses back from a fall ride in Herman Missouri. If you don't think that wasn't pretty!! SuSUN: Me loving the CO also!! My body does love the fat/protein combo rather than carbs. I do feel much better. I do the CO fudge but also CO mayo and CO Ranch salad dressing so I'm getting CO at every meal. Buffy45: I went on a medical mission trip to the Dominican about 2 years ago. Beautiful people and the food was fun. Like the El Presidente beer! And I hate beer! We are trying to organize another medical mission to Haiti. I was supposed to go to India last month but the organization canceled the trip because of the bombing in Mumbi (sp?) CarolynF: I LOVE your Avitar. Always makes me smile as I have 2 cats. I am working to find a good protein level for me. At 123 pounds, it is only supposed to be 70-80 grams. Since I am VLC (<20 grams), all that is left is protein and fat. I am experimenting with a protein level that won't ruin my ketosis. Right now, 90 grams is fine so next week, I'll try 100 grams per day and see what that yields. At night, the sticks show moderate ketosis but always trace in the morning. My rational is that if these values change, maybe the excess protein is getting turned into glucose so I am trying to find that breaking point. I hope it is closer to 120 grams as most low carb stuff is high protein. Everyone: Tonight is my favorite day of the year!! DAYLIGHT SAVINGS!! Spring forward!! I love the lighter evenings. I always feel like doing more. Well, going to the gym. Talk at you later. Wifezilla, I am looking forward to JJ's pics. How fun! Baby animals in the spring! |

I think JJ stands for Janet/Jack . Those are her parents. It's kind of a unisex name.
If JJ is a little boy duck, will he and Jack fight over the "girls"? Cindy: My dd is the Event Planner for the Bloch School at UMKC. I knit her a small kangaroo for her desk..Sounds like you had some great adventures.. KState won..over Colorado today..They needed that win.. I'm sure Brett was in the stands somewhere.DH just called..He has been in Europe these past 2 weeks and he will be home tonight. Last edited by CarolynF; 03-07-2009 at 03:02 PM.. |

JJ stands for either Jack Junior or Janet Junior
As soon as the baby is grown, we will know which version fitsIf JJ turns out to be a boy, either he or daddy will have to get a new home unless I want to give each of them their own pens with their own girlfriends. I just don't have that kind of room! LOL We have been calling it SHE a lot. Not sure why. Maybe we are psychic and just don't know it! ![]() I think what I will end up doing is selling Jack, Lana and Chrissy as an established breeding trio next Spring. By that time I will have between 5 and 7 hand raised instead of flock raised ducks. JJ, whatever buddies I get for JJ, and I have 4 more eggs from the other ducks in the incubator right now Jack, Lana & Chrissy are not that used to people and it is really inconvenient to have to chase and wrestle a duck to the ground of you have a medical issue you need to take care of. Chrissy, for example, has this horrible toe nail that needs to be clipped, but we haven't had the time or the energy to catch her. She is just starting to like us too! Lana also needs to have her leg band removed. Again, it will be very stressful for them when I grab them. While they are all still wary of people, they have learned to beg for snacks at the patio door ![]()

Welcome JJ!
Thank YOU for sharing the event and story with us. Zilla. I do hope she is a girl then you can keep Jack! Cindy, Thank you for the other suggestions. I am slowly catching on, today is only day 3 and I am tolerating it much better now. I even put some in my tea, added to my cauliflower. I will try to make the mayo and salad dressing. The cocoa fudge was a no brainer so that was my first. LOL! That medical mission sounds interesting but scarey. We visited the Dominican Republic about 10 years ago on a vacation. They seemed to use palm oil or coconut oil there for their cooking. Did you notice that? Carolyn, Glad to see you back safe and sound. Thanks for the tips on CO. Waving to All. Hi Susan..
Just don't overdo the CO..Unfortunately, it has calories in it..(grumble)..Zilla: I do think you are right to raise your "own brood" of little ducklings. That way, they can learn to trust and love you and your family. Gosh, I didn't realize that you had 4 more babies on the way..Now, does genetics play a part in this? Can Jack fall in love with little JJ? or will their ducklings be missing some body parts? I can't imagine what it is like chasing a duck around the yard..We have a hard enough time getting cat Alex into his carrier for his shots. I always wait until Brett gets home so we can corral him in the bathroom.

Thank you Carolyn. I will watch that too.
I just went to fitday. I am not the greatest at finding everything on there, and the stats today are more inline than they were yesterday. Today: Fat (75%) Carbs (6%) Protein (19%) I know I can't imagine trying to catch a duck either. Bless 'em, they must get scared for their life. Need to get my Exercise report done. Susan |

SuSUN, I have a TON (>50) custom foods in my Fitday. Any product I buy that I'm going to use, I make it a custom food. I sit down at the computer and enter all the info. Gives me something to obsess about! haha It makes it a lot quicker to enter foods, esp. ones that you eat a lot. Your stats on Fitday look perfect. Take cream, depending on the fat content, is 45 calories per tablespoon, some are 50. Fitday has only one version of cream, a "one size fits all" so you can put the stats of the version you buy in as a custom food. If you need help, holler. We are all big Fitday people it seems. I'm ashamed to say but I live according to Fitday. Makes whatever diet your prescribe to much easier to monitor , esp. when it's specific ratios like we follow. Wifezilla, my grandmother used to raise ducks when I was little. She was a big baker and she said her secret weapon was duck eggs. Hard to find. I may look at the farmers market this spring.

Hi all, I've had a very busy day so just popping by to say hi and to welcome JJ to the world. Everybody sounds like they're doing great. I'm struggling this weekend. I need to buckle down and get with it but that sometimes is easier said than done. As I'm sure we all know. I also think I'm coming down with a bad cold or something. I'd really rather just have that pass me by this time around. But I probably don't have a choice.
KU won today too! It was a nail biter though.

Ducks are not....uhh... discriminate.
If JJ is a girl, another option I have is to find someone else with a khaki drake and just swap. People with goats, etc... often offer their boy goats for swap to keep their herds genetically diverse. And yes, herding ducks is only slightly easier than herding cats...LOL |

Yup, KU won and KState did, too..So they are playing in OCity on the 11th.
Zilla: Swapping Jack for another male would be like "Husband Swap". It's good to keep the genetic line diverse..You don't want any ducks crazier than others. Cindy: Fitday is so helpful in keeping things in line..I haven't done it for a while..hmmm.but used my Calorie Counting book to get a grip on my protein/fats. Sandy: Watch your throat, girl..If it gets really really sore, go for a strep test.. Gary is on his way home from KC airport..His luggage found him and will be home in about 2 hours. I think I'll head for bed........ |

Ahhh, JJ is sooooo cute! Congrats Zilla. It has been so fun going along with you on your journey to becoming a duck mommy.
Wow, busy chat day, I have been out and about all day, and now home tonight, very tired and arrgghhh, can't get to sleep. Sometimes I get too tired and can't get to sleep, makes me so mad. Sandy, hope you don't get sick. Carolyn, glad Gary is on his way home and with luggage. Hi Cindy, Susan, MK, Gord, Mary, and everyone else. Got a new pair of sandals yesterday, Volative. They were so comfy I went back today and got another pair. Like I need another pair of sandals, yikes. DD's inlaws are here from Canada and I need to take her MIL shopping one day this coming week. Tough assignment, huh, LOL. Well, off to try to get to sleep again.

Morning!
Yesterday was fun!! Everyone went (except for DD22 - I haven't talked to her . . . . hmmmmmm) Anyway, good times! I bought the Red Cactus Salsa (yummy), some Grandpa G's Jalapeņo mustard, a bottle of Ice dessert wine (the wine tent was awesome!!) some sausage, popcorn, BBQ sauce (2 different kinds), BBQ pork, hot sauce, and a beef stick to munch on so I'd stay away from the fudge! Sometimes the lactose intolerant bit keeps me on task! ![]() Then we went out to lunch about 2:00 - I wasn't too hungry but the boys were (of course) starved. Even after the cheese and the Butch's garlic pizza that they ate! For $4, it was good entertainment! Linda - JJ is so cute! and he/she really fluffed up fast! Buffy - sandal pic?! Sandy - hope you feel better! ![]() Cindy & Susan - Fitday is a pain, but it keeps me in line - when I use it. This weekend got out of control and I need to rein it back in. What's up for everyone today?

![]() Woot, I figured it out. Here is the 1st pair I bought, now I will try to get the 2nd one up here. ]Double woot , getting so smart in my old age! So, I thought they were cool in a casual way and they are oh so comfortable. They are flying out of the shop where I bought them, when I went back for the 2nd pair they only had 2 styles left in my size. They are supposed to call me when they get some more in, they are supposed to be getting one with turquoise on it and I want to see that one. |

Morning everyone.
This is crazy, now I want to start hatching baby ducklings!!! Guess we will all have to be adopted duck mommies.Feeling really really tired today so going to go take it easy this afternoon. I sure don't have the stamina I used to, I feel young until I overdo, then my age rears it's ugly head and I am not that old! Need to get back to eating VLC, that does give me more energy. |

JJ is too cute! I love ducks. They have sweet faces! My cat has a bad case of feline annoyance syndrome right now. I made the mistake of letting her taste a bit of my pork rinds and now whenever she hears the bag....! And she gets the crumbs everywhere! Funny baby! Just mail ordered 2 cases (!) of pork rinds. 1 regular and 1 is cinnamon sweetened with Splenda. They are 1/2 the sodium as the ones at the store. The brand is Turkey Creek at Turkeycreek.com. Free shipping was nice. I have read that people crush these and use a coating for frying chicken so I thought I would try. I'm on back up call for the hospital today and was called in at 9;00 to do 3 c-sections. Between Friday and today, there CAN'T be any more pregnant women in Kansas!!

Wow...JJ is adorable..
You must be a proud momma, Zilla..![]() Gary got home around 11:30, so he slept in and we headed out in the pickup for Tulsa to pick up our bathroom stuff..We ate at Red Lobster and I had a real lobster..nommie,...totally legal lunch... ![]() I love those sandals..They look extremely comfortable. Time for a pedicure, I guess..For me, anyway..Our trip to AZ is this Friday night..It's supposed to be in the 60's for a high..Like here. I'm sure Phoenix will be warmer than Sedona. Little JJ thinks that the feather duster is his/her mother.. I have heard that ducks bond with the first thing they see, is that true? Hi to everyone........... |

Hey, Ladies, have any of you tried the LC bread from Julian bakery in California? They were advertising it at the top of the main page for LCF and I clicked on it, ordered 2 loaves and was very surprised. It is very firm so my fav application is toast for breakfast. It is a complete protein from wheat, beans, spelt, ect. 1 slice is 120 calories, 1 gram fat, 13 grams carbs, 12 grams fiber(!) and 12 grams protein. I love it for breakfast with butter. It was about $7.50 a loaf but they had a $5 coupon which covered (pretty much) shipping. Took just a few days and I've added it to my list of fav LC foods. Oh, and it's organic so thats a plus. I think their website is Julianbakery.com. I wish it were softer but it makes great toast and grilled cheese. Oh, maybe bread pudding with unsweetened Almond Breeze, eggs, Fiberfit, vanilla and cinnamon. Alright, I'm off to fire up the oven!!
