Hi gals...

Went for lunch with June..had a nommie bunless cheeseburger and some green bean fries. Hey, they weren't bad at all. Not perfect in the carb count as they had a coating on them..but they were good and we split an order.

MaryKay: Waiting in doctors' offices is always a pain, isn't it? Glad he could fit you in this afternoon..

Sandy: Glad you are back to the gym..It does give us more energy to get things done..KU isn't playing til Friday, right? The KState girls are playing tonight...(fingers crossed).

Cindy: I can't imagine how your little body adjusts to working long hours, but
many doctors/nurses do it all the time.

Buffy: I like the way you always review movies..cuz I don't go very much and you help me save money. It's really windy here, toooooooooooo...
I'm going to my new doctor/PA tomorrow..Hopefully, she will help me with my thyroid and give me either Armour or some T3..

Susan: 1400 calories is a good amount of calories. Honestly, veggies help bulk up your menu and give you that full feeling, I think.

Hi to Becky and everyone else......

I had a yummy lunch. 2 svgs of Steak Ums, 1 oz of onion and 2 slices pepper jack cheese melted over the top. Quick and easy too!

Carolyn, I sure the new doc helps you out. I take only Armour and do fine on it. I switched from Synthroid to Armour after reading so many of Pam's posts. She's like a thyroid guru, isn't she?

I went ahead and ran my errands. All except going to Costco. Maybe that'll be tomorrow. I even entered all my food into The Daily Plate!! What a good girl I am. Today, that is, lol.

Have you ever made the green bean fries at home? I haven't. They just don't sound that good to me but a lot of peeps love 'em.

Hi gals..

Well, I know that girls in the Recipe Bulletin Board do green beans in the oven with oil on them and they get kinda brown. I think I must have burned mine up cuz they didn't taste that great.

I'm hoping that this new doctor will give me Armour..She is very creative and does hormone pellets..(ouch). I don't think I want those, but I am looking for a good Rx for my thyroid..

Good Evening All you busy Gals,

Had a lovely quiet day off, had some reading to do for work and then did a few house chores. Watching DGD right now with DH, as DD and her DH are at a concert. I will be leaving soon to take her home and put her to bed.

Here are my #s for today. 1,462 cals 97.6 Fat 47.4 Carbs 104.9 Protein Fat (58%) Carbs (13%)
Protein (29%)

I think I need to up my Fats...yikes! Will have to re-do my fitday numbers later.
I will make up some Cocoa bark for my snack after dinner.

Carolyn, I sure hope you can get a good Rx for your thyroid. You new doc sounds like an innovative thinker. Is she an endo?
Thank you for the tip on extra veggies, I was holding them back to cut the carbs but find I really need them. I added more protein and nuts today and felt satisfied on those. Will see what the scales do with this extra on board.

Sandy, No I haven't ever tried those green beans, kinda like a chip or something. I prefer pork rinds as a chip snack. I heard some rave about them.
How's your DH's cold? Hope you don't get re-infected.
What are Steak ums please?

MaryKay, Yikes on that waiting time at the docs office. How was your lunch time meeting?

Cindy, I hope you are off your on call shift by now and taking some well earned rest.

Waving to Rebecca, Zilla and All.

Here they are. I don't have them very often but when I do I really enjoy them.

Mine are actually a brand called Philly-Gourmet, but they're the same thing.

I think so. They can usually learn a word or two. Some people's chickens on the poultry forum know what "night night" means...LOL

Hello girls, had a busy day. worked from 7-12:30, then went to get my Mom for a 3:00 appt at her kidney specialist. Poor thing didn't sleep at all during the night cuz he told her back in May before the accident that if her kidney numbers didn't come up she might need to go on dialysis. Well... in December when we were there it was 41 (whatever that means, the one before that was 38) and it was 41 again, so it's staying consistant. He said he's happy with the numbers. Then we went to a chinese buffet, killed the good diet that I had going during the day, but tomorrow is another day. Then we went to Barnes and Noble so she could get some books she wanted. Nothing for her to do unless DD (Kim) or I pick her up and take her places, her car was totalled and she can't drive right now even if she had a car. SO, at least she has some books to read.

Going to go to bed early, after work I'm going to the cemetery, a friend of mine will be gone a year tomorrow (she was 78 when she passed and she's one of my Eastern Star sisters) so I'm going to take flowers to her grave. It's a 38 minute drive to the cemetery and back home again. It's suppose to be nice out so it should be a nice drive.

Nite girls, keep on keepin' on.

The lunch meeting was good - and the repeat appointment was really fast and he apologized a lot! Always good!

I'm staying home today and getting stuff done.
It IS Spring, like Ange chirped - a GF and I walked on the bike trail yesterday for 45 minutes and all the bushes are greening up.

Good Morning All,

It is a sunny but a cool morning again up here. The promise is that we go up to a high of +3C so eager to see the plus side. I have work just this aft, so not a demanding day at all. The birds are back and singing and the plants are pushing thru the soil, so good Spring indicators going on!

The scales did move for me this morning 128# so seems I am getting the ratios and calories down enough. I did have a tad more protein than I had planned on yesterday. I was so hungry mid morning I ate a small can of tuna, as I had read Buffy's lunch menu.

Mary Kay, Thank you so much for sharing your ratios and reminding me of them again. Watching the caloric intake, keeping full, and staying within the ratios is quite the challenge...BUT I am determined to 'get it.'

Zilla, It is lovely to hear about how the ducklings operate...'like feathered cats.' LOL! I think WE all get that one! Funny!

Hugs, Rebecca, hope you day runs smoothly.

Thank you Sandy for sharing the Steak ums. I have a roast beef made from last night...you are giving me some great ideas. I am sure DH would love that too.

Carolyn, Do you go to your new Endo Dr today?

Waving to the rest of the gang.

Susan, the roast beef should work fine. Just slice it as thin as you can and chop it a little. I've even used canned beef from Costco for this.

Messy morning.

I re-potted 3 plants and made a terrible mess in the kitchen - then had to clean it!
Laundry going.
It's so windy, I'm going to let DS16 walk the dog.

Aren't I a nice mom!

Hi..

I met with my new PA this morning. She is big into Bioidentical Hormones and gave me some information on them. I told her that I wanted my thyroid fixed first, then I would see how I felt. So..she ordered me some Westhroid and is having it compounded in a time release pill to take once a day. Since I was on 112 Synthroid, she put me on 57 mcg T4 and 14 mcg of T3. This can all be re-arranged when I have my blood work done in May. She also told me to take Iodoral (iodine), 200 mg of Selenium and 500 mg of L-Tyrosine. These things help the meds get absorbed better, she says.

Zilla: Ducks are like cats with feathers.. Funny..

Rebecca: Your poor mom..But, thank God she doesn't have to do dialysis yet..That is a big one.

Mary Kay: It is windy here, too.....I need to get out and weed out my little garden so I can find the perennials.

Speaking of Steak-Um's..There is a great recipe for Steak-Ums manicotti in the Recipe Bulletin Board. It's very, very good.

We are having nitrate free, grassfed beef hotdogs tonight..(Whoppe)..They only cost
$7.50 a package, but it's just the 2 of us now. I also made a radish potato salad, which I think will be amazing. I am tater salad lover..I just took some red radishes and peeled them, put them in boiling water with some cream (to absorb the bitterness)..Cook until
tender...Cool, slice and dry really well. Then add your mayo, celery, green pepper, and hard boiled egg. I always put in some real bacon and chives.
She said that this helps

Have you tried the radish tater salad before? Let us know how it is. I loves me some tater salad in the summer. The faux cauli-tater salad is ok in a pinch but not the real thing.

Good luck with the new meds!!

Opppphs! Sandy, just getting here after work, so probably missed Dr.Oz! darn!

Carolyn, that sounds like a good cocktail of meds to tackle that thyroid. Good Luck and hope you can gradually and slowly adjust to this new med. I will go to find that Steak recipe as I love to try new things, if not too complex that is.

MaryKay, funny you should be re-potting. I have been pondering re-potting a little plant this week. I have one of those umbrella plants a red leaf. It has been dormant all winter and just started to spout and I have 3 leaves on it already right now. I have never re-potted it. How would I go about choosing the size of the next pot, it surely must be ready for a new home. Tis, the only indoor plant I own.

Here are my numbers for today:

Fat (69%) Carbs (13%) Protein (18%)
1,459Cals. 115.4Fat 49.8Carbs 66.2protein

I hope I am on a losing streak again tomorrow!
Thank you for all the coaching, encouragement, recipes and all.

Sandy: Methinks that the radish tater salad is sooooooo much better than the cauliflower tater salad. If you cook your radishes, peeled and in a bit of cream in the water, you can't
tell they are "radishes". You do have to pat them really well, so your salad won't be wet.
The only thing is that it is time consuming as those radishes are so little..

Susan: Sometimes you can catch Oprah later on in the evening. Your numbers look good.

Well, they look more like taters when they don't have bright red skins, Sandy..You certainly don't have to peel them if you don't want.

You could boil one with the skin on and see and one without the skin..Sort of a blind taste test..

Just a quick note to say hi to everyone before I go to bed.
Had a busy day in the office and actually forgot to check in. Went to dinner with DD's #2, and 3 and the grandsons, it was fun.
Eating is better this week, I am not wanting to overeat as much as last week.

Morning!

I've been to spin class, now hopefully some cleaning and then lunch out! Yay!

The radish tater salad sounds good . . . . someone want to make it for me?

Susan - My percentages were great yesterday - but my calories were still too high!

So I'm not losing -

To re-pot, get a pot between 1-2" larger than the original (measure the inside of the top opening), put some potting soil in the bottom and press it down. Keep adding and pressing until when you put the plant in it's level with the top of the pot.

Insert the plant in the middle and add additional soil around it and press out all the air - so press it down. Keep filling until it's full.

Then water.

Ta da!

Hi gang..

Yup, for me, calories too high will do it, too..Mary Kay.

Gary loved the radishtater salad. I don't think he even knew there were radishes in there..

Off to Curves in a minute..

BUT: I am down to my pre-Arizona weight..151 (march 1 weight). Now, to get serious to lose down to at least 150 before our big weigh-in next week..My "drugs" are coming
by mail today, so I'm hoping the thyroid compound will help me..(crossing fingers)

Cya later, gators.

Morning everyone!
Radish salad sounds odd but if it tastes like tater salad it sounds good.
Carolyn, I like the sounds of how thorough your new Dr. was. Hope you like the new drugs too.
MK, by now you have had to notice inches lost by doing the spin class, right? I am so impressed with you and at that ungodly hour of the day!!! LOL
Susan, your percentages look great!
Hi Rebecca, Zilla, Sandy, Gord, and everyone who comes along today.
I haven't been weighing lately and I am not as obsessed about food. At least for a day or two.

Well, I went to the gym again! I'm just going to treat it as an appt. and get back into the swing of things with that. And I've done great this week so far with my eating. I made a key lime cheesecake concoction for dessert. Meh, it's ok but really not good enough to make again. It's perfect ratios for a meal though so it might come in handy for breakfast.

Good morning, all! Called in to work early yesterday so I was on 22.5 hours. Busy till about 8PM, then quite until 6 AM, then another c-section. There can't be any more pregnant women in Overland Park!!
Got some real interesting news yesterday. I started seeing a Doc that specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement, just to have a baseline set of labs so when changes started to occur, I could gently head them off at the pass with replacement. Imagine my total shock when he said my hormone levels were nil and I am post menopausal!!!
I know the first thing you are going to say is ," Didn't you notice you weren't having periods??". Well, I have an IUD and it is very common for women not to have a period with an IUD so I thought that was it. This hit me like a ton of bricks! I had no clue. I must have started the process in my 30's as I am only 46. I mean, I'm done! We are going to start replacement to get my levels up to something that looks a little more human but this is insane. I will have to watch my thyroid though because when you start manipulating hormones, it messes with your thyroid. My thyroid is fine now but I'm going to check it frequently with all the lab draws they do for the bioidenticals.
All right, enough of that. Back to food! I just bought a large cauliflower to make tater salad but want to try the radish salad. That sounds interesting.
Made the Dulce de Leche bars for work and they were massive hit. I had to make multiple copies of the recipe.
Sandy, just got back from Costco. I love that place! Bought a lot of salad stuff. Bought a package of lamb chops that I am going to sprinkle sea salt, pepper and rosemary on, saute in a little olive oil and finish to medium to medium well in the oven. I'd be fine with medium but the BF can't see red, pink yes, but not red. Also got a big can of macadamia nuts and I package those in 1 oz containers for a late nite single serving if I'm up late at work, which seems like a lot here lately.
Carolyn, what is Westhroid? A transdermal thyroid replacement?

I hate sounding stupid but sometimes my curiosity gets the better of me...what is the deal with hormone replacement?...I thought menopause was a normal phase of life that we just go through and then that's it...I thought hormone replacement was something that some women chose to take to help alleviate the side effects of menopause.......what's it really all about...layman terms please...I'm 47 and I have my ovaries but not uterus....that was around 8 or 9 years ago so no TOM for me but I still have days which I think may be hormonal.......thanks in advance gals

Hormone replacement therapy=Feeling good and healthy even when you've gone through menopause or are just starting. Menopause is a normal life change for women but I can't see a reason to feel bad just because it's always been normal. That's JMHO. Some people can handle menopause with few or no symptoms and then some are severely effected physically and mentally. The HRT is to try to help those people. This is total layperson terms and the way I see it. I'm not an expert by any means. I just know I love my HRT. YMMV, if you ever have the desire or the need to partake. Do they do natural bio-identical hormones in Canada Lise? You might check with your Dr. and get a baseline hormone test done to see where you stand. As Cindy noted, things could be happening that you don't even know about, lol.

Lise, you bring up a very good point. Even with a masters in anesthesia, this is way beyond me. Now, if this involved your airway, I'm all over it!! But HRT, I'm having to do a lot of reading. What I am finding is that women who choose HRT fall into 2 groups: ones who are symptomatic and are trying to relieve symptoms and ones that have no symptoms but are trying to optimize vitality. As of yesterday, I fall into the later group.

Estrogen is the hormone of youth. It keeps your skin nice and your bones strong. Aging, both internally and externally, starts accelerating when hormone levels are in the toliet. For women who have a personal or family history of breast cancer, estrogen replacement is probably not an option. I say probably because with breast cancer, many factors come into play and I'm seeing more women opt for HRT even with a family history.

I just ordered a book by Suzanne Summers (I know but Oprah recommended it!) called The Sexy Years from E-bay. I'm am just starting to read it.She's a huge proponent of bioidenticals. One thing I told my doc yesterday was that I refuse to allow HRT make me gain weight! I'll admit it loudly, I'm vain! He said that with the bioidenticals, the opposite is true. A lot of women lose weight (I'd be happy just not to gain) as HRT often optimizes metabolism. Please note I am using HRT and bioidentical hormone replacment interchangabley. HRT is faster to type.

Bioidenticals are mixed up in a cream and applied to the skin to soak in. This is kind of part of the magic of them. By going through the skin and not by mouth, you bypass the liver which eliminates the risk of blood clots that you can get with synthetic by mouth pills. They also don't form the breakdown products (my doc mentioned them but don't ask me to quote thier names) that caue weight gain, water retention , ect that you can see with the synthetics.

I am still learning about this so everyone who has an opinion, please chime in. I have learned so much on this forum, it is ridiculous!! So count me in as having no menopausal systems but doing replacement to optimize metabolism and slow down cellular aging.
