Healthy Hearts February Challenge

Hi..It's Feb. 1st..Do you know where your "groundhog" is? Tomorrow is the big day.

Anyway, I am still holding fast at 150..grumble. However, last night at the book store I got a book about Hypothyroidism by Mary Shalom. I've read her other stuff..They have a special chapter on weight loss/gain. Bottom line:
It's really hard for hypos to lose weight. I'm hoping my "new" endo will optimize
my meds. Will see her on Tuesday.

Hope you are all having a Super Super Bowl Sunday. Lots of parties going on, I'm sure. We will have a quiet Super Bowl..Dh likes football..but he's not a nut
about it..He likes KState football..

Have a great day.

PS: We are also doing a tracking of our exercising..Trying to exercise every day for 30 minutes at least. I think we can post that on our new Tracking Thread, K?

Morning everyone. I will be back later to post my Feb. 1 weight , it is way up from before I left on my trip, and I was very good on the trip, so hoping it is traveling weight that will come off quickly.
Carolyn, when were you diagnosed with hypo, isn't that something new with you, or had I missed or forgotten that???

Going to go see "New in Town" with a GF at 1:30, should dig into all the chores that need to be done since being OOT, but that is what tomorrows are for

Hi everyone and a big welcome to February! Could we just be done with the snow already!!!!!!!

I finally registered a loss of 5lb for the month! I'm surprised it was not more, but I'll take anything at this point. I see the dr tomorrow for follow-up on the ulcer and results of the ct scan. I think it will probably be ok since I didn't hear anything this past week. Hey, no news is good news, right?

Going to inlaws today for dinner - dh's bday is Wed, also the 5th anniv of my mom's death - a bittersweet day. I will eat before dinner at their house, though - they're having a mainly Italian dinner - pasta and meatballs, etc. I think she's having chicken, but since I'm not sure how she's preparing it, I'll just play it safe and eat here and just have salad there.

BTW, to all of my friends who remember, baby Samantha turned 6mos old yesterday! She's doing well and is a beautiful, healthfully-chubby baby! Hope you all have a great day. See ya tomorrow!

148 for me this morning. Before discovering EFGT (thanks to all you guys) my loss seemed to have slowed to only 2 pounds per month. This month it was 4 and possible 5 as "my" month isn't over yet. I register my months based on my TOM, since my weight seems to fluctuate so much around my hormones. That way I can get some consistency and really see how much I lose "in a month".

Morning!!
Well - you all get to decide how much I lost this month!

I started January at 125.4.
I weighed 121 until this morning when I weighed 123.4.

So - I either lost 4.4 or 2 lbs.

Either way - I'm back on the bandwagon.
Hopefully daily exercise will help.

What's everyone up to today?

I'll be watching the commercials and a couple of movies that are due tomorrow!
Doing laundry too - and maybe a walk if it really gets up to 40!

Shon - that's so great about Samantha!!

Hi Buffy!!
Carolyn - see you on the tracking thread!

LECould - congrats!!!

This scenario is the reason I measure mine based on TOM!

Hi everyone...

Good for you, Shon.. Are you feeling better? We are all happy our baby
Samantha is doing well..

I want to see that movie, too.

Buffy: Gosh, I was trying to remember when I was diagnosed..It was after I stared LCing and read all the threads. I have never gone to an endo, just a gyno and then my regular doctor. I am hoping that they will give me some T3 either in Armour or Cytomel, etc. to help. However, every endo is different. If I don't like her, I won't go back.

MaryKay: Wowowo..you did well, too. You can average it out to a 3 pound loss, which is fabulous.

LE: Now, what were you doing differently before you met US..? Eating too much protein? Tell us...tell us..A huge congratulations to you and keep
posting regularly.

Hi to everyone else..Jem, Zilla, Sandy, Margot, Michelle and anyone else I might have missed.....due to old age.

It's got to be the percentages and trying to reduce protein. I've been concentrating on making sure the percentages are right and for a beginning on lowering protein making sure I'm under a hundred. That's major as when I looked back on ****** I was regularly way over 100 grams of prtient 125 -150. Now, most days I'm somewhere between 60-90 grams. For my next step I'll probably try to shoot for ALWAYS below 80 - but, I think that's going to be quite a challenge. Protein adds ups quickly for a hungry girl like me!! Another thing that has helped me I think, is that I usually enter what I think I'm going to eat for the day after breakfast, that way I can see how the percentages shape up and how much protein. That way, I can make adjustments (add some veggies or fat to reduce some of the protein).

Forgot to add I was very skeptical that such a simple thing as getting the percentages right would make any difference!

That is so amazing, LE..Honestly, protein is so easy to overindulge on. Last night we went out and I ordered a bunless burger. I stopped half way through it..and took it home and had it for breakie. I did the same with my chicken at lunchtime. I say to myself, "Are you still hungry?....really hungry?" and most of the time it is a big fat NO..

Morning everyone!

Ok, here is my post from Jan. 1
June 1 235
Aug. 1 226.6
Sept. 1 223.4
Oct. 1 220.6
Nov. 1 213.4
Dec. 1 209
Jan. 1 213

Weight loss for 2008 was 22 lbs. I am happy about that.

I was upset at the gain of 4 lbs from Dec. 1 to Jan. 1 but it got worse, I could not get back on the bandwagon until mid-January and my weight even got as high as 218 on a couple of days, smack me! Then I got serious again and really got back on track and got as low as 210.8 right before we went to Florida. I knew I was back to losing and was sooo good on our trip, the only thing wrong I did was drinking a chocolate shake when we stopped at Wendy's on the road coming home. Got home and yesterday morning the scale was up to 215 again! I was sooo upset, I kept telling myself it was from riding so long, but I blew it and had movie popcorn and then ice cream last night. This morning, back at 215 again. Ok, I have a chicken breast thawed out for lunch and I will be back on track, have to for my blood sugar, but man, that is so discouraging.

Ok, enough self-pity! Congrats to those of you who had a loss, Good JOB!

Went to "New in Town" yesterday, cute movie and I really enjoyed it.

Now, I have lots to catch up on, both here on the board, in my office and laundry from the trip. I haven't had time yet to go back through our January thread and see what all I missed reading from my friends here.

Hi..

Good morning..

Buffy....22 pounds in a year is utterly fantastic!!! Hurray for you!!

MKay: Yup, that run was fantastic, wasn't it?

I have a slight cold today..So, I got some Zicam swabs to stick up my nose and am taking lots of supplements. I'm hoping that it will shorten it.

Tomorrow is my doctor's day..Prayers for a good consultation and that she won't think I am a nut..(too late for that). I have to leave here at 6:45..in the morning.

How is everyone doing today. I guess the groundhog saw his shadow, huh?

In my hypo book, Mary says to have a protein heavy breakie for hypos..So, I had 3 eggs this morning..............She says it is better for hypos (not diabetics) to eat 3 meals a day..no snacks..and be slightly hungry when you go to bed..

Buffy! That is awesome!!
And we all gain a little occasionally.
Sometimes I even plan on popcorn or something like that so I know I'll have to get back on it when I'm finished!

I've eaten movie popcorn every weekend the past month and have not worried about it as long as I put it in ****** and my percentages are right. My weight will go up a half pound for a day or so after probably because of all the salt.

Good morning everbody! I'm sitting here on our balcony having a yummy cup of coffee waiting for DH to wake up. It's beautful down here and we're enjoying every minute of it. And trying to store up some of this warmth to bring back with us. I brought my laptop but of course it's doing something weird so it might not even be working by the time I get home.

It sounds like you all are doing great. I'm doing lots of walking but doubt tht it's enough to counter the eating, but I'm trying to not go overboard too awful much. But it's vacation and life is short, ya know?

Better run. I don't want to miss a whale in the bay if one decides to jump up and give me a show.

You all take care,

Good luck Carolyn, can't wait to hear results...
Ah, Sandy, sounds awesome! I took my laptop with me only to find out hotel did not have wifi, SIL had dial up that wasn't working and the aircard I borrowed from my son in law wouldn't load on my computer, arrggghhh! Will get the aircard situation fixed later this week at an AT&T store, so in the future that will be an option.
Office work for me today and pick up DGS 9 at 3:00. New Market Street grocery over by his house, so I will check that out. I have never been in one of those before, supposed to be great.

I have a gain of 2 lbs to report for the month of January....I started the year at 208...like Buffy at one point I was up to 218 only in my case it was due to some emotional eating (why oh why do we let what people say cause us to binge eat)...it was all low carb but wrong percentages..too much protein...not enough fat and way too much salt....in other words....nuts, cheese and LC ice cream........that's all behind me now and I'm back down to 210...didn't quite make it back to 208 but I will....that's what new days are for....due to the LC binge my sugars stayed in normal range...actually they ranged from 4.8 to 5.8 (86.4 to 104.4) which is pretty awesome...

I'll check in again...I'm at work but wanted to check in quickly...

Have a great EFGT day

Lise, I also am finding that I still binge occasionally, even with keeping the sugars low, like you said, we can binge on LC foods too. And, it causes weight gain. One trigger I have truly discovered over the past few years if getting too tired, I find that I almost always binge at the end of or upon returning home from a trip. I just want to let down and that includes eating comforting food. Even, if we keep it LC. I love the Ezekial toast with butter and PB and I have found I can have it without raising my blood sugar. But, 8 slices in one day can sure increase the lbs. And, I did that yesterday, I was more tired from my trip yesterday that I was the first day I returned home.
Hopefully, we will both do better this month, sounds like you have it back under control.

Hi ladies,

Well, I just returned from my appointment..I wore jeans/tneck/jacket and didn't take anything off when the nurse weighed me. I told her it would be over 150..and it was..She looked at me and said, "Boy, you don't look like you weigh that".. I took it as a compliment..really..She was a very nice nurse in her 50's..Well, the Dr. was kind of a goofie lady, but I told her of weight gain..She only believes in the TSH..but she did up my Synthroid from 100 to 112, so we will see. They took some blood and will call me on the results..I have to come back in 8 weeks for another blood test. She said as we age, we need more
medication.

Wow..Sandy...we want to be with you. It's cold in KS~

Lise: LC binges are dangerous to weight..even though they are good for your blood sugar.

Buffy: I love Ezekiel bread..but I am askeered to eat it..Maybe one piece with eggs would be okay..

MKay: I know that small peeps have to eat less..I have small bones..but big hips..LOL

Off to Bible Study..

My cold is better..I'm loving that Zicam stuff you stick up your nose.

Carolyn, if it makes you feel any better, I did once find a doctor who was willing to experiment with armour, adding T3, etc., etc. She also added dhea, worked on several different approaches with me and my hypothyroid. She was certain she could help me with the weight, but alas, nothing she tried did anymore for me than just taking the required dose of synthroid. It does help the other smptoms, but it doesn't help me lose weight. Of course, who knows what I would weigh without it. It is discouraging but if it helps your other symptoms, then that is probably the best we can hope for unless new studies or other help comes along. I also found that increasing doseage, decreasing it, didn't make any difference in my weight but hoping it will help you.
