Hi..

Tornado stuff/storms are around here, too..DH was supposed to drive to Wichita tonight..
Hope he doesn't do until storms are over...

Zilla...You has babies?????? That old Jack is doing his thing..I'll check out your examiner post.. How long do the babies take to "hatch"? I guess the mothers aren't interested in sitting on them, right?

Buffy: Good for you...keeping your brain active is a good thing......

Rose: Hmmmm...I guess my broinlaw must live on the East side..I don't know Wichita very well..except that Kellogg will never be done..

on the chair toilet, I HATE those low profile ones! Young people would never order those if they were old first,

You are such a good sport Carolyn

I agree with you on the toilet height. Try being old AND tall! :lol

Ducks take about 28 days to hatch. That should put my "due date" at March 4th. Cross your fingers for me.

Don't have time to read all the posts, BUT baby shower????? Oh my, Zilla has been very busy while I've been gone, lolol.

I know I've probably gained at least 40 pounds in the last 10 days but we're having a blast. I'll get back in the groove upon my sad return to reality next week. I do miss you all though believe it or not. You're all usually a daily part of my life and I'm missing it.

Talk to you soon.

Morning friends...
Couldn't get to sleep last night, then slept late this morning.
We had lots of storm warnings last night but didn't get anything bad, although some areas did. DGS 9 called me to tell me that their sirens went off and they went in the bathroom but now they were safe. He loves the weather channel and was busy calling everyone in the family to tell them where the storms were in their area. Our sirens never went off so nothing too close to us.
I put a brisket in the oven on low low heat yesterday, it looks so pretty this morning! And, last night, I fixed our NY strip steaks the Alton Brown way of searing them in a hot iron skillet, then into a 500 degree oven. Oh man, they turned out perfect for me. I like my steak med rare. I cooked DH's longer but still it was a little rare for him, so I had to put it back in the oven for a little longer. Then once you take them out, you let them rest for 3 minutes to seal in the juices. Perfect method.
I recently dug out my old, old, old cast iron skillet, cleaned it up and reseasoned it. Forgot what a great skillet that was.

Your DGC sounds like a future storm chaser!

I LOVE the Alton Brown cooking method for steaks. Anthony Bourdaine also uses a similar method. If you time it right, the steak tastes delicious.

Hi everyone..

Goodness Gord........60 pounds is fantastic!!!

Welcome back, Sandy. Well, vacations are for enjoying food far from home. Eating out is the "funnest" part of our vacations, too. You will lose it in no time.

Yes, we do need to have a baby shower for Zilla...You know, you could be like the Octuplet lady and have all 6 at once..or maybe they could divide and you could have
8 or more.. Better get a second job for "duck food"..

MKay: They have padded bicycle shorts..I think I would need those..even though I have enough padding there naturally.

I need to try Alton Brown's method. I have some nice steaks in the freezer..

Hope everyone is having a nice day................. Off to do a Welcome Wagon call..

LOL. No kidding.

If they all hatch, I will wait and see which ones are girls. I will most likely sell the boys, keep the girls, and sell Jack, Janet and Lana as a breeding trio. (I would keep Chrissy because she is NOT treated well by Jack. He really doesn't like her much and she seems to be the one more consistently laying eggs.) That way I will have hand-raised ducks that are friendlier and used to more people contact. Then if I want to breed again, I can get a different male to keep them genetically diverse.

Zilla: Jack is abusing Chrissy? Well..like the show says "Three's Company"..not 4.

Oh..I thought Sandy was home..My bad..duh..

My dental gal was talking about a salad called Garlic Salad..Gotta look that one up. Plus,
she was telling me how hard it was for her to lose weight..Mind you, she is pretty slim..
But, then she told me what she eats..oatmeal for breakie, apple/almonds for snack..Granola bar with yogurt for lunch and another carby thing for an afternoon snack, plus dinner..So, I gave her some LC hints..

Jack doesn't ABUSE her...he just nips at her and chases her. Apparently she doesn't squat for him like she is supposed to...LOL

I figure with Lana and Janet throwing themselves at him he wouldn't care...but you know how men are...LOLOL

Morning!

Our warm weather is gone

I was so tired last night, I fell asleep at 8:30!!
This 6:00am spinning is killing me!

Today I have a haircut, dinner out with DH & friends, and a Pastoral Council meeting.
I'm tired already!

Carolyn - glad you could help the dental assistant!
My weight is going up this week - somehow with all this exercise, you'd think it would be going down . . . .

Morning...
Prayers going out to David this morning Carolyn.

MK, your weight is up b/c of the spinning, working out anew makes you retain fluids. This too shall pass

The way to reseason an old cast iron pan: Clean it up, using a wire bursh or steel wool if necessary to remove any buildup or rust spots. Dry well, then wipe the pan with a thin layer of lard or oil, and place in a 350% oven for an hour. After using, just wipe clean or add salt to the pan, rub well with a paper towel, rince and wipe dry. Should be nice, black and slick. I went online to get this info, it isn't like I knew it already . I have had this old pan for years and years, can't even remember if I bought it or someone gave it to me.

I think some of them do say that when you buy them. But, I had mistreated and abused mine, so it was looking dry, gray, etc. and if you don't take care of them like you are supposed to, you can always retreat them and they are as good as new. I never use soap on mine, some say it is ok, others say to never use soap. They are wonderful cookware though, I am enjoying my skillet again and the steaks I cooked the other night were soooo awesome.

Hi everyone..

Home from the hospital..David did "great"..His hernia was like a grapefruit, so he will feel much better. I had a nice long chat with Connie..(These peeps are Beth's inlaws). Connie bought me lunch at the cafeteria..Salad bar..and SF jello.

Yes, those iron skillets are great. I was afraid mine wouldn't work on my smooth top stove, but it works great..I don't use it all the time, just some of the time. I prefer teflon.

Still at 150..grumble, grumble....

Carolyn - great news! And good to know you can use the skillet on a smooth top stove!

A little humor today:

One night about 10 p.m., I answered the phone and heard, "Dad, we want to stay out late. Is that OK?"

"Sure," I answered, "as long as you called."

When I hung up, my wife asked who was on the phone.

"One of the boys," I replied. "I gave them permission to stay out late."

"Not our boys," she said. "They're both downstairs in the basement."

Cute joke.. That poor "other" parent..

Well, I called my new endo's office to get the results of my blood test that I took a week ago Tuesday. The nurse said that the dr. was sick and hadn't been able to look at it..
So, the nurse will call me with the results tomorrow and send me a copy..that is, if the doctor is in...............................good thing I'm not dead, huh?

Morning everyone!
MK, we are so proud of you, getting up in the middle of the night to get on a bike and go nowhere What a trooper!

Errr, Carolyn, doesn't that irk you when you are waiting on results! When I passed out and hit my head, had the MRI, my doctors office kept putting me off, telling me the Dr. had looked at them yet. I did find out later, he was waiting for a neurologist to get back to him, but they could have told me that, instead of making me think that he just wasn't getting around to it.

After our trip I was back up to 215 from 210 as I reported. Well, I of course was upset, so ate badly for a week and so then I really was at 215. This week I have cut out practically all carbs and this morning was back at 210. I don't know how long I will do this, am just taking it a day at a time but it sure was good to see that weight come back down. I am sure that if I eat 2 carbs today, it would all come rushing back to me, geez!

Hi gals..

Just did my treadmill/up adventure at Curves..............The "other" gym has a spinning class at 6:30..My friend goes there..I really admire women that get up really early to exercise..((MaryKay))

Yup, I do hope that the nurse calls me today...........I told her to leave a message on my machine..Don't want to miss anything.
