210-208=2 lb loss for December....*yeah

Happy New Year Everyone...

Thanks for the new thread Carolyn...

Jenjen.......I don't think you have to do anything special...just jump in and tell us all about yourself...we have a monthly thread and I always post my weight on the first day of the month so that I can flip back and see my monthly loss every month...I'm a slow loser and it helps me to track instead of getting caught up in the emotional mess of daily fluctuations...

Wyatt and Kate and I made it to midnight and toasted in the New Year watching City TV at Nathan Phillip Square....I've got to hand it to the performers up there in the freezing cold....I really enjoyed the Jersey Boys.......

My official 2009 starting weight is 208....if all goes well I'll be 156 this day next year...

I'm a busy girl this morning....last batch of buns is rising...dressing is made for my brocolli salad....turnip is starting to simmering and my ingredients are lined up for a lime no bake cheesecake....I volunteered to bring a diabetic (aka low carb) dish for each course for Christmas at my mom's which is today (we've been having Christmas on Jan 1 for 25 years now... )....now I know I'll have more than turkey and garden salad........Kate and I did a head count last night and we will be 42 today as long as none of the neices or nephews bring dates.....4 new baby girls...oh my gosh I'm really looking forward to this......

Have a great day...I doubt I'll be able to get back before tomorrow....thankfully I've booked it as my first vacation day of 2009...

Happy New Year everyone...Boys are still sleeping. I'm up with coffee and the cat..

Welcome Jen. We are just glad to have you. Like Lise said, just "jump in" and we usually do a month by month weigh-in..

Lise: AK...Busy day for you. Your food sounds very nommie..Have a wonderful family day. Great weight loss this month..

I think I will go by today's weight as it was up a bit (salt and some Chinese)..But, it's 150..(cry, cry). So, it's a gain for 4 pounds for December..But a gain of 2 pounds for the year (to look on the bright side..LOL)..

Morning and Happy New Year dear friends! Here are the numbers, not proud of these this month!

June 1 235
Aug. 1 226.6
Sept. 1 223.4
Oct. 1 220.6
Nov. 1 213.4
Dec. 1 209
Jan. 1 213

Weight loss for 2008 was 22 lbs. I am happy about that.

That was actually yesterday weight, this morning it was higher but I had wine and salty snacks last night, so will hope yesterdays is a more true weight. Geez, it is bad enough. Of course I am mad at myself for letting that happen, enjoyed all the good food and treats but with my diabetes I should not have let it happen. But, I did, it is over and now I will only look forward to more lbs shed in 2009, with the help of all my Barry friends here.
Lise, sounds sooo good and wow, 42 people, big party.
Hope everyone has a good day today.
Carolyn, love your idea of entering a chocolate bean cake in the contest, I wish I had thought of that since it was all in fun anyway. I think they may do it again for next NYE party, it went over well.

Morning!
How are my favorite friends in 2009??

A good time was had by all DS19's friends last night and we were in bed by 1:30, so I'm happy!

Buffy - wow! What a great year!!
Carolyn - you'll lose those last pounds quickly!
Lise - A loss is a loss! Congrats!
jen - let's get this party started!

I started 2008 at 125.8.
I started 2009 at 125.4.
I think my lowest this year was 120.4.

So basically I'm still playing with those same 5 lbs.
I guess that's why they call it maintenance!

But I'm highly motivated this morning and I'm getting back to 120 ASAP!

I've been lurking for a couple weeks and not sure about joining as I'm bad at daily checking in but I'd like to do what I can. I have the book on order and should be here next week so I'll be glad to read more into it. I have a hard time getting the ratio's right but I'm starting with trying to get my protein in the right zone, eating more good veggies and not being afraid of adding the fat.

You are a great and encouraging group of gals and I love hearing your support to each other!

Starting 2009 166.5 (probably high just from Tom about to start)

This IS a great group - very supportive!

Personally I've started using ****** again this morning.
I always do better if I write everything down - plus it takes care of the tracking for me!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I love ******. I'm trying to do better about entering my recipes so they are easier when I have them.

So some of the reading I've been doing is about the harm of soy. Do you guys banish it from your eating? I have made some great lc bread in the bread machine with soy flour and am thinking maybe it's a culprit in the last couple of months of struggling.

FYI about myself. I'm so not new to LC as between March 2006 and August 2007 I went from 224- 138. This last year has been a struggle to find my feet after many life changes but I feel stronger these last couple of month of finding what works for me. I know lower carb is what my body does really well with and balances me out but as for the ratio of things to lose weight we have been struggling. I really like the base of Lose Fat/ Get Thin so I'm excited to absorb his book when I get it. I searched all over for it locally and no one had it. Only Amazon had it & e-bay but amazon was cheaper with the free shipping.....but I hate waiting!

Hi ladies..

Welcome PJ's mom..

Buffy: That is absolutely fabulous. I know how you struggled in the past and am so glad that you are on the right "medication" to help..Yippeee...

MKay: Staying the same isn't that bad, either..at all..at our age.

I just think of where I would be if I didn't have a "plan" or friends like you guys..Accountability is so important in weight loss....methinks.

I just made some homemade summer sausage with ground chuck..Not bad and very Barry friendly..

Easy Summer Sausage

2 pounds of ground chuck
1/2 tsp. of garlic powder
1/2 tsp. of onion powder
2 Tbs. of Morton's tender quick (near the spices in a blue bag)
1 cup of water

Mix this all up very well in a bowl. Then divide this into 4ths and wrap each roll in Saran and refrigerate for 24 hours. Remove wrap and bake for 90 minutes at 325. The rolls should turn reddish.

Wrap and refrigerate or freeze.

Yes, PJ..soy is bad for ya. Barry says so and Zilla has done alot of research on this..I'm hoping she will post today. Now, did you order Natural Health and Weight Loss??? That is Barry's latest book..Just checking.

Carolyn - Thanks for the recipe - that will fit nicely into my next week which will be REALLY strict!

PJ - I do use soy - mainly the milk since I'm lactose intolerant.
I also use tofu sour cream and cream cheese, almond milk, whatever works for me.
Everything in moderation - EXCEPT for this week!

The large print is for me!

Welcome PJ's,
I try to avoid soy but I'm not freaky about it. I purposely don't buy anything with soy but if I'm at DD's or a friend's house and they serve something made with it I just go with the flow. I don't think it's good for you but I don't think the small amount of it I eat is going to hurt me. A lot of the convenience LC foods has soy so I avoid them altogether.

I've used ****** and dailyplate. I personally think thedailyplate is more user friendly, but that's JMHO. ********* is another site that's interesting. You choose which plan you're doing and go from there.

I vacuumed the bottom floor today and partially rearranged my fam. room furn. Now that the tree is down I was able to bring in another chair for more seating when the kids come. Since my new furn. is a couch and loveseat I lost one seat. I did have 2 identical sofas. Which are for sale now. I wish they were gone. I do love my new leather stuff a lot though.

Thanks for the welcome!
My weigh in 198.2
Not too bad......my high 3 years ago was 277.
If I could stick to it, as well as I "think" about sticking to it........I would be at goal!!

Oh well today is about new beginnings. I started on plan last Sunday. I did not want this to be a "resolution" because, well I suck at resolutions!!!!!

I wish you all love, peace, happiness and low numbers for the New Year!

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year! I recently finished Natural Health and Weight Loss by Barry Groves. I must confess that I bought that book for the sole purpose of laughing at how absurd I presumed it was going to be. Eat fat? Are you kidding? Saturated fat even? To my surprise, I found myself nodding in agreement the whole way through and saying, "wow, that makes so much sense!"

It is so much fun to keep learning new things about this WOE!

Now that I've read the Natural Health book already, would I still benefit by reading Eat Fat, Get Thin? Or is it basically the same concepts?

I'm ready for the new year with a new WOE!

Maria

Hi Maria.
Don't look at what I did today - it's not typical.
I just needed a jump-start to get back on track.

It is amazing how much sense it makes. AND the fact that my cholesterol is down.

I lost .4 yesterday. Shouldn't I have lost at least 5 lbs?!?!
I am retaining water though - I can feel it!

Morning to all old and new friends..
Had a nice New Years day yesterday. Went to DD#2 for lunch, I took my Black Eye peas and some cornbread, DD#3 brought the leftovers from their NYE party and we all just snacked on what we wanted.
My son and DIL were here to visit for the day, so it was great to be with 3 of my 4 kids and 2 of the grandsons.
Then I went and had a couple of glasses of wine with some friends.
Not sure what today will bring, nothing planned and since it is Friday, my internal schedule is off, seems like it should be a Monday.
Zilla, good article, right on.

hi everyone. maria, it's the same book, basically. EFGT is the original so you read the updated version. i ordered Trick & Treat and it was shipped 12/7. i am so disappointed that it's not here. i know, i know, it's the holiday season...but still i think it should be here. they said two weeks and even w holiday mail....okay, so today i'll get some cream of tartar and make some oopsies in the next couple days. hopefully, they'll be something i can digest easily....unlike anything else i eat (except yogurt and smoothies). hey zilla, how are the duckies? do you have to wait til spring for them to start laying? i'd like to get some but i haven't found my true home yet and it may be someplace where i can't have them...like a condo? i'm thinking a goat might be nice, too. i have some blackberries, thistle and other invasive stuff trying to take over my yard. did we hear from barry this year? usually, he pops in to wish us a happy holiday. maybe he's too busy watching out for our health.

No eggs yet from the ducks. It may be Spring before they start due to light levels. If they don't get 14 hours/day they wont lay. I started supplementing their light so we will see in a week or so if that helps.

All my errands are finished - now waiting on DD22 who went to have lunch with my mom! She wants to go to TJ Maxx and hopefully find shoes for the wedding she and BF are going to this weekend. They'll leave tomorrow morning and get back Sunday afternoon.
