zilla, the alternative to an incubator is a hen. my mom would put the duck eggs under her hens and they'd hatch out these cute ducks. the hens never seemed to mind having these strange looking chicks mixed in.

Exactly jem. Those silkies just have the reputation of being the most likely to hatch something and not care what it is. Someone on the poultry forum posted a picture of a silkie hen trying to hatch emu eggs! Silkies are a BANTAM chicken!!! LOLOL
Buffy, that pic is of silkie chicken aka 2 legged incubators. Here are my babies ![]() ![]() Last edited by wifezilla; 01-12-2009 at 10:09 AM.. |

Hi..
Just a quickie this morning as the plumber is here..We had a little overflow in our basement.. Zilla; I didn't know you had 4 duckies. Now, what did you name the bluebilled one? Gosh, I would be scared to eat a fertilized egg in case there was a little duckie inside of it..But, I suppose if you get it early enough, there would be no problem. I am back on plan..Brett is getting ready to go back to college. And we are going out to lunch after the plumber leaves.. Cyalater and check on Lola's post.

LOL, shows how much I know about birds, ducks, chickies, etc. Now, that picture makes sense to my muddled brain. Yes, I didn't know you had 4. Keep the pictures coming, we love seeing your little family!

Zilla: Is the 4th duck Mr. OR Mrs. Roper? LOLOL..
Well, Brett left for college..cry, cry..He is such a darling kid..We are lucky to have him. I'm sure he was glad to depart after helping his Mom clean up the water in the bathroom from the backup..He re-hitched the dryer so I could wash all the towels.. The bottom line is that I can only use the Scott 1000 toilet paper..TMI. Our pipes aren't totally aligned under the house and any paper that is too fluffy gets caught. The alternative is to dig up the cement flooring in the basement..SO, I thought the soft Scott would do the trick..NOT..back to the one-ply.. Anyway, the good news is that my plumber is a new sponsor for our Welcome Wagon.. I have a nommie crab cake and salad for lunch with Brett at our local restaurant..I saved the other crab cake for my dinner tonight. Anyone watch The Bachelor????????????? I'm hooked.. |

Could I ask all of you to please pray for my dad tomorrow? He's having knee replacement surgery at 12:30 pm. He'll be in the hospital for about 4 days and then to a rehab facility for another 10 days or so. He had his other knee done about 13 years ago so he knows what he's in for but he's older now and I, of course, worry, worry worry. He's in great health which is great and I'm sure everything will be fine. But prayers are always good. Thanks.

Sandy, he will certainly be in my prayers. What is his first name so I can really make it personal? I will be thinking of you as well, be strong my friend, I know it is hard on family to see someone you love go through this!

Hi friends,
Smoky..it's nice to see your face and gosh...............you have done so well with the plan. I'm sure you don't cheat like some of us..(used to). Sandy: Will definitely pray for your dad and will tell my Bible Study tomorrow to pray for him, too..We have some "sickies" in our little study this week..So, we will do a big prayer for everyone.. Mary Kay: Yup, its quiet here, too. I watched my trash TV with cat Alex (see photo). Lots of birthdays....Having children that are 40 would be very scarey, but you all are so young looking.. Buffy: Glad your bs is under control..That is a good thing. Night..see ya in the a.m... |

Carolyn - I still have 2 DS's here, but they were watching a movie . . . . Thanks for all the prayers my friends.
I got up extra early and took flowers and a piece of carrot cake from Tippin's over to DD. The rest of her family are all on diets getting ready for vacation in Feb, lol. She was very surprised. I was surprised b/c DGD and her friend were already up too. They went to get her Starbucks. 40 years gone by in a flash. I told her I'd do it all, all over again. And I would, but I do think it just might kill me at this age, lol. Dad has to be at the hosp. by 10 and they FINALLY got my mom's stone set yesterday. I don't want to take him by there on the way though b/c I know he'lll get upset and I don't think that would be a good idea to head into surgery that way. Have a great day everybody. It's 7 deg. here this a.m.

Morning all.
![]() Sandy, praying for your dad this morning. I agree with you about not taking him by the cemetery until after his surgery. And hopefully you'll have better weather when you do! Smoky hope you warm up soon! That's a wickedly cold temp - and I thought we were going to be bad going to 0 and -1 tonight! And congrats on the 3lb loss! ![]() Buffy - glad your bs is down. KUTGW! Went to the dr yesterday and he doesn't want me adding extras just yet. But I'll be a good girl and listen. I am feeling better so I'll just do as he says.Went to the store this morning already - it's snowing a little but I don't want to go out in the frigid air tomorrow so I got it overwith today.

Morning everyone!
Happy Birthday to those young girls who are somehow turning 40, I have 2 DD's over 40 now, how does this happen when we are still sooo young?Sandy, we are thinking and praying for you and your father and family today. Brrr, some cold weather you all are having. 30 here right now and supposed to get to 50, but sunny and nice. I have the massage appt. this morning that he messed up on the appt. time last week. Then have to go pick up meds and go by the cleaners. Then home to work in the office some more. Hmmm, a leash for me might be a good idea, or one of those bark collars. When high carbs go down my throat it should shock me and hurt! BBL

Hi guys..
Busy day today for me..Went to the hfstore in Coffeyville as they carry different stuff..Like coconut flour. I hope Sandy's dad did well with his surgery. I totally agree..let him heal up and then he can see the stone.. Gary might come home a day early if he can get his appointments organized correctly. Yes, it was 14 this morning.............brrrr...where are my gloves?? I bought some of that Sugar Free Extra gum (that the biggest losers use) in hopes it would quench my 3:30 hunger...It did for a little while, but then I just ate dinner at 4:15...(like the Senior Citizens do). I finished a dog sweater for my friend's dog..It fit, so that's good. Now I am knitting mice..(not real ones).. |

Hi all, Thanks for all the prayers and concern. Dad did great with his surgery. He had an epidural this time along with a general. He was totally alert and still totally pain free when we left about 5. I told him to get a good night's rest; he'll need all his energy tomorrow when they start getting him up. I hope his pain isn't too bad.
He was very emotional when we left the house this a.m. so I'm doubly glad we didn't go by the cemetery. He didn't mention it so I didn't either. My older bro even came and sat with us in the waiting room. He never ever came when my mom had any procedure done so I was very surprised. This is the bro who lost his wife last year. It's almost exactly one year now. Congrats to Zilla's soldier boy! I'm sure you're very proud. Which branch? I think we got way lower than 14 here Carolyn. At 7 a.m. it was 5 or 7 degrees, I forget which. Cold!! And more coming, yuck! I'm pooped. I'm going to chill the rest of the night. See you all later. |

Sandy, my dad has both of his knees "bionic". Yes, the rehab sucked, but the difference in his life after getting the new knees has been amazing. Best of luck to your dad. |
