Yes, Shon, so good to see you and I bet our Zilla will have some good info to share. Drs. are just stuck on high carbs, IMHO. That's all they're ever taught and apparently are too busy to read up on anything else.

Buffy, I actually am excited to be eating LC again after my long fall off the wagon. And boy I'm paying the price for it. I weighed in at 150 this a.m. One year ago today I weighed 141.5. That was pretty depressing to see. I use Weight Commander and it shows your current weight, last week, last month and last year's weight. It can be very motivating and I weigh everyday, even when I know it's not going to be pretty. Unless I'm away from home of course.

I'm making today pretty much fat, protein and maybe a little lettuce. Hopefully 3-4 pounds of my gain is excess water. My fingers are a bit pudgy.

Oh geez guys. This is one of those topics I am not much help with. I have a "cast iron" stomach apparently.

What in particular is your doctor telling you to avoid and why? What feeds whatever is making that hole? While bacteria thrives on sugars, can it use fat at all? Do you currently use coconut oil or coconut milk?

Sandy, I am with you. Although the fat lazy me wants to continue to pig out, the smarter me says stop the insanity! I don't like how I feel, I like the lean feel you have when you eat low carb and I want it back.
Went to the store and got my Fage, the only place I can get it is Super Target and I don't usually grocery shop there so always have to make a special trip. Then called my massage guy to see if he possibly could get me in earlier than my 10:30 appt. He said no, you are tomorrow. Well, since I easily goof up, I figured he was right. But, got home and my reminder card does indeed say today, Jan. 5th. So, I left him a message to just reschedule me for next week, I don't want to go out again in the morning when I have enough to do here at home.
Oh, and I stopped at Sprouts and got a really nice looking all natural whole fryer to roast for dinner tonight, then I will take the leftovers and carcass and throw in the crockpot for broth, etc. Also picked up an eggplant which I have never ever cooked before and will do something with that, maybe fry it in parmesean coating??? I will have to look up how to even handle one. Peel, don't peel, core, don't core??? It is a totally new species to me LOL.
1/2 cup cottage cheese for b/fast.

Here's the list of what I cannot have:

Full fat dairy
Fatty meats
coconut
dried fruits
citrus
vegetables cooked in butter
raw vegetables especially those in cabbage family
sausages
whole nuts
anything sweet (no problem there)
spicy foods
tomato based foods
no onions, garlic, pepper, etc.

Here is what the list states to eat:

wheat, grain, oatmeal, grain products
lean meat, fish, poultry - no skin
eggs
tofu (yuk)!
lettuces
fruits other than citrus
low fat dairy

I suppose I could make a diet of the lean meats, eggs and low fat dairy, however, I know I will be hungry with no fat. And the grains I'm supposed to eat - forget it! I'd be even more hungry than without the fat!!

It seems incongruous that the very foods that seem to irritate the stomach, i.e., wheat, grains, etc., makeup a good portion of a diet that is supposed to eliminate the problem! As to what's feeding the ulcer - the stress especially in the last several months. I have also had to eliminate some supplements - CoQ10 and Glucosamine - both irritate the lining of the stomach. Not sure if d3 does, but I stopped everything and am introducing each one back slowly.

I'm just tempted to do lc and not tell him - maybe reducing some of the fat and see what happens. I'm going to do some research as well and see what I can come up with.

I would try eating just fat at one meal, then just protein at the next, then try just carbs. See how I feel immediately after and then 1 hour later.

As for D, there is a liquid version made by Carlsons. I can see pills being rough on the tummy, but the liquid should be fine. I get mine at Vitamin Cottage

Thanks, Linda. I will try eating that way to see what happens. At least I know the Prevacid will heal the ulcer - it's just getting the food right to keep it from continually irritating my stomach lining.

And I guess I didn't realize that supplements could cause so much havoc! Especially glucosamine which has helped my knees so much. I switched from Solgar to Nature's Plus Ultra Rx Joint, which has a pharmaceutical glaze that protects the stomach and also is sustained release and breaks down in the small intestine, thereby minimizing any stomach problems. And who ever thought something so seemingly innocuous as CoQ10 would cause a problem!

Hi ladies.

Shon: Owie, girl. I think what the doctor is telling you is whatever stays in your tummy the longest (fats, etc.) will cause your tummy distress and will cause more acid to be released to digest the foods. Coconut oil is the mildest of all oils cuz it is digested in the
small intestine instead of the tummy..And, another thing that can cause distress.

However, I would make alot of soups. They "go" down easy and don't seem to cause much distress. I would make them with a chicken broth/beef broth base and add some good healthy veggies and cook them thoroughly, so they are soft.

I also think what Zilla said makes alot of sense. Try one thing at a time..Say eggs..alone. and see how you feel. Then try cooking them with coconut oil..(the tasteless kind) and see how you feel.

You can easily avoid the grains....easily. I would focus on veggies with a small bit of butter..Just experiment and see what happens. I'm sure your ache is caused by stress..
You have alot of stress in your life..Hugs..

I'm back on plan and posted my "foods" in the Tracking Thread. I am not perfect..no biggie, there, but trying to get back on track.

I finished my bunny..I will see if I can post it without making it too large..I posted it on the Playground knitting thread..

I made the soup - straining out the bones was a real pain though.
I probably did it the hard way!

DD22 came home for lunch and had some. She loved it.
So I'll try some for dinner.

I still feel awful . . . . how long is this flu supposed to last?

MK, how did you strain the bones out? I have a big wire sieve that I sit on top of a large pan, then just ladle or pour the contents through that. Then, pick the bones out of what is left.

I roasted my chickie at lunch, then after I ate my fill and placed some nice meat aside, I put the rest of the carcass with quite a bit of meat left in the crockpot, added some chicken stock stuff, celery, carrots, an onion and all the bits and stuff I could scrape off the roasting pan. Have it on low for overnight. I ended up with a wonderful broth from the turkey at Thanksgiving doing it this way, hope it works on the little chicken carcass.

Have been ultra good all day, had cottage cheese for b/fast, the chicken at lunch and so far appetite is not undoing me. I know I just need to make it through 3 strong days, then the appetite drops like a rock.
How you doing Sandy?
MK, I sure hope you get to feeling better soon.

I'm doing ok so far Buffy. I posted what I ate/am eating on the Tracking thread Carolyn started. I think I need to post in the a.m. what I ate the day before. I fly by the seat of my pants so much it had changed within 30 min. of my posting, lol. It feels good to be back in control. I forgot to pick up a chicken at W-mart earlier, dang it!!

MK, I have 2 big soup pots. I boil the bones in one, then strain the liquid in to the other after it is done simmering. Then I let all the bones and stuff cool in the strainer and then put the meat in with the broth.

Morning!

I don't have a big strainer and the other stock pot hadn't been watched from the day before . . . . so, I used a colander and strained the broth into 2 big bowls, then had to pick through the bones by hand to separate them from the meat.

Of course I didn't have any fresh veggies, so I found a couple of bags of frozen and took the veggies I wanted out of them.
It was really good and will be my staple today.
Thanks for all your help!!!

On the good side, I lost another pound!

So far my symptoms are headache, stuffy nose, sneezing and achy.
So probably not the flu, just a bad cold.

It sounds like that nasty virus that's going around and it typically lasts about 2 weeks in everybody I know that's had it. And I was one of them. Take care of yourself and try to find some time to rest.

Cleaning Poem

I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess.
He asked if I'd been 'comp! utering ',
And I had to answer 'yes.'
He told me to get off my fanny
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.
I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick...
I was just admiring my work..

I didn't mean to 'click.'
But click, I did, and oops I found
A real absorbing site.
That I got SO way into it.
I was into it all night.<<Sigh>>
Nothing's changed except my mouse
It's very, very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess...
While I sit here on my hiney.

Now I know why my house is such a mess, lol.

My son had that. I am having the sinus symptoms, but only very mildly. I credit the liquid vitamin D drops for keeping it at bay.

Finally made egg drop soup last night. It turned out great...mainly because I found Shitaki mushrooms to add

Morning all. Gosh MK, hope you are feeling better soon. My sis and her family just got over that nasty stuff and it did last about 2 wks!

Just got back from Sam's - all the talk about chicken soup made me want to make some today so I just went there to pick up what I needed. I think it'll be good for my tummy and since we're supposed to get frz'ng rain, sleet and a snow storm starting tonight, thought today would be perfect to make the soup! Am doing a funeral luncheon at church around noon, so when I get home I'll cozy up and make my soup!

Hope everyone has a great day. See ya later.

Morning everyone!
Ewww, MK, yes, it does sounds like that miserable stuff that takes a week or so to get over. And, if I don't really really get lucky, then mine will turn into bronchitis and then pneumonia so be careful and get the rest, liquids, etc. Nyquil and dayquil work pretty well for me sometimes when I get that.
Like Zilla, I seem to have the sinus part of it, kind of trying to drain, be stuffed up, can't decide what they want to do. I am taking a musinex once a day and last night I took some benadryl.
Oh, my chicken soup looks wonderful. I put it on low over night and turned it off when I got up to let it start to cool down. The broth is sooo good, now I need to strain and pick the meat off the bones and chop up the veggies smaller, I have NO CLUE why I left them so big to start with??? I love getting a whole chicken like I did yesterday, having roast chicken to start with and then making the soup with the meaty carcass, what a bargain deal.
MK, there is no way I know of to get away from having to pick the meat off the bones with your fingers.
I feel sooo much better after just 1 day back to eating clean. Maybe by the time I turn 100 I will learn not to give into temptations of sugar and goodies.

Hi ladies...

Hmmm...Sandy, now I can blame my puter for not getting my housework done.. Cute poem..

Chicken soup made with a real chicken is so wonderful. But, the picking of the meat is rather tedious, but you can't get around it unless you throw in chicken breasts/thighs and water instead of using the carcass. The meat would be easier to "pick" as opposed to the carcass..

I was down a pound..but I had been up..So, I'm back to 150..grrr..Carbs make me gain.
(I need to write that 100 times)..

Our weather looks clear through the weekend, so that is a good thing...Shon: Freezing rain is the worst...ice is the worst..Be careful.

OH NO! I don't know WHY water heaters can't just quit working, they always have to make a mess of things, and when you are sick! NO FAIR! Why can't they just give off a big beep to say, hey, I am worn out, I will be quitting soon, fix or replace me!!!

Loved the poem, very cute and true!

That's right Carolyn, I think next time I might just make it with parts, you can roast them as well. I thought the whole chicken had the giblets in it, but alas, it didn't. I like to cook them with it as well.
