I guess I'm the early bird this a.m. I couldn't get back to sleep. And I have a long weekend ahead of me too and could really use it. Today we're going to the in-laws and of course I'm taking dinner with us. And tomorrow the family is all coming over to celebrate DH's birthday, which was last Tues. but he was so busy this week he didn't have time to celebrate then. So I'm making him spaghetti with Italian sausage, ceasar salad, garlic, cheese toast and of course his pineapple upside down cakes which he requests every year. I'd stay home today but I know how hard it is for him to go see his parents alone since his mom's stroke. He really feels like he lost his "real" mom 11 years ago. And I don't think I've even been down there since I lost my mom so I really need to go I guess. Everything will get done and all will be okay and I can catch up on rest next week. I hope, lol.

The Changeling is a very sad movie but worth going to see. There's some great acting in it too.

I weighed on Sept 26 before I left on vacation and it was 148.
Today's weight is 144.5 so finally I actually show a loss on a challenge. 3.5 pounds! I'll take it.
After vacation at one point I was up to 152 I think! Yikes!

I really feel like I'm in control now. I hope that feeling lasts. I don't want any blowouts to throw me off course right now.

Morning!

We went out with friends last night, had dinner at a great restaurant (Appletini) and then drinks for charity (yes, that's what we're calling it now) at a private club (2 large Tia Maria's and a Jello shot). The 25 year old bartender talked me into it!

Though surprisingly, I don't feel too bad this morning!
Maybe later!

DS16 had to be up early - he has a Scholastic Bowl match - so I was up to get him out the door at 7:30 - Ick! DH said he'd do it but . . . .

I'm on my second cup of coffee - anyone need a refill?

I was 121.6 at the end of September and 122.8 at the end of October - so not awful.

At least my "heavy" weight seems to be moving down!

Congrats Sandy!

Morning ladies.
Here are my October results, as you can imagine, I am very pleased.
June 1 235
Aug. 1 226.6
Sept. 1 223.4
Oct. 1 220.6
Nov. 1 213.4 Body Fat % down 2 pts on my tanita since Oct. 1st.

I truly think getting diagnosed as diabetic was a blessing because I think I had it for some time anyway and untreated it was not allowing me to lose weight, plus God knows what else it was doing to my body.

Hey, Carolyn and crew, I'm jumping back on your board starting Monday, so I thought I'd go ahead and start posting now. We have an office "challenge" of sorts--one guy doing mostly veggies & grains (LF/high fiber), one gal doing her own plan, another counting WW points, and me eating high fat. We aren't RACING to lose weight, just comparing notes to see who can stick with it for six months AND who feels best along the way.

I have enough history with Atkins to know that I will lose big on induction and stall out by weeks 3 & 4. Lord knows I've walked that road dozens of times! But I was lucky to run across an old food diary from when I WAS losing well (70+ pounds off), and my menus were really high fat then and NOT as high-protein as I had remembered. SOOOO...my high-fat plan will be Barry's plan--or as close as I can get to it.

Tomorrow, I will weigh & measure and take "before" pix. Also had blood work done on Thursday, and I'll post those results when they arrive. Will get out Natural Health & Weight Loss this weekend to bone up on the basics and make a "fat run" to Sam's.

For the record, my coworkers think I am INSANE. They are all died-in-the-wool veggie heads or WW/LF devotees. They eat carbs like there's no tomorrow and chastise themselves for even thinking about eating REAL cream or cream cheese or butter. As you can see, I'm the black sheep of the group and they will view everything I eat with skepticism--and remind me often that I'm clogging my arteries, upping my cholesterol and setting myself up for a heart attack. (roll eyes here)

Could be a long six months, but I'm ready to roll...will keep you posted.

Carolyn, love the new family pic!

Went to see baby GS yesterday, he is 5 months old now and soooo cute. Grinned when he saw me which of course made my day. Played with him too long as by the time I left and headed to our Elk's lodge for the halloween party, the traffic was horrible. Took me almost 2 hours to go about 30 miles.
The halloween party was a lot of fun, we had a one man band who played all kinds of music and just a small but fun crowd. The money we raised will go towards the Christmas baskets we give away each year.
I passed on the jello shots last night, I have had them but don't need any quick help in drinking too much, LOL. I had 3 rum and diet cokes over the whole night so did ok. For food, we sold hot dogs and then had chips, dips and desserts. So, I had a hot dog with cheese, onions and a little chili on it, then 2 bites of DH's dessert. Blood sugar was 84 when I got home so I processed it all ok.
Tonight I am going to 9 yo DGS's last baseball game of the season, then get to bring him home to spend the night. Tomorrow I had a baby shower to attend.
I want to go see The Changeling, it looks like great acting and based on such a sad story.

ShinOK, my DS and I have the high fat, low fat discussion all the time. She is convinced I am killing myself when I talk to her about 60-80% fat in the diet, but hey, just got my last lab results back and everything but LDL had improved after 4 1/2 months back on the fat wagon. YES!!!
You are right about less protein than maybe we did while LC'ing in the past, they are finding that too much protein is stored in the body as fat. I noticed on a post yesterday that Dawn had recommended a ratio of current body weight times .36, so for me, that is only 76.68 grams of protein a day. Also, Carolyn has told us this many times, to cut back on the protein and I have been doing that this time on LC.
Anyway, welcome to our little challenge and more importantly, to our group!

Hi Ladies~ I'm still with you all.... I am officially on vacation till I leave to work at the superbowl in the first week of january (gone for 6 1/2 weeks working 46 days straight no days off ). yipee.... I am so ready for a break from work.

ok...I sarted this on sept 25th at 188 and today on nov 1st I am down to 170....so I am very happy with my results and have finally found something that seems to really work for me. Thank goodness because I wa begining to think I was on a downward spiral in the weight/food department. And I was definately begining to feel the effect of that on my health. Fourtunately my cholesterol levels have always been good but my blood pressure has not and I also suspect that I am insulin resistant. My main problems are with my potassium levels and iron levels. I have blood work scheduled at the begining of the week so hopefully those levels have improved.

so good luck to all of you ladies on the lets talk turkey challenge.

Good morning, ladies..

Went to my faux Curves this morning and did some treadmill running (sort of) and elliptical..HMMMM..I'm thinking that the "calories burned" on the elliptical is way off..

EEKKK..The old KState Wildcats aren't doing too well against the KU Jayhawks..
Some peeps are hoping that the Wildcats get a new coach..

I want to see the Changeling, too..even though it is sad. DD and I saw The Secret Life of Bees last week on the Plaza. It was good.

MKay: Brett loved Scholar's Bowl..It's good for their brains..You did very well this month..That one pound is probably "water"..

Sandy: Yipee for you on the weight, girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buffy: Yipee for you, too on the weight loss, too..

Sh: Hey, glad you are joining us..We are all little black sheep, but who cares??? The proof is in the weight loss or maintaining..

Ashland: Good for you..That is amazing weight loss..

Zilla: I used to eat like that, too..Carbs plus fat is not a good thing..

Dh is still travelling..So, I'm going to my neighbor's party alone..which is fine.

Hugs to everyone.. That is our last year's Christmas picture taken in KC in my soninlaw's building where his bank is. My little dh needs to get back on track with LCing..He lost lots of weight, but gained it back..I think he's cheating at lunch.,LOL

Hello everyone.

We have rain! We haven't had any since last May. I had forgotten what it smells like. My house backs up to a park with a creek. When it rains it smells fresh and clean like the country.

I weighed in at 184 again. But I have been on pain killers for a few days. I keep reinjuring my knee. I start physical therapy on Monday.

Happy November.

Carolyn I ordered the book a week ago from amazon.ca and it is still not in stock as of this morning

I am calling it 167 today.. a whole pound down from Sept 1 LOL but actually down from Oct 1 when I was all over 169-170 when I quit dairy and did the yeast cleanse. (and was eating 20-30 carbs and a lot more fat in the form of 4-6T of CO)...

So to start you all off I am sharing my greatest secret with you all.. I got myself a little carb counter to keep in my fridge.

What a little doll Prozak!! I don't want one but I'll borrow her, lol.

Congrats to all the losers/maintainers and actually congrats to everybody. We're still here and we're still plugging away and that's something to be proud of in itself. Giving up always leads to weight gain, in my book anyway. So woooohooooo for us Turkeys!!

The visit to the inlaws was sad, as usual. We made it back in time for Mass and then we went to eat at a steak place. Our dog is going to disown us! She really misses us when we're gone. She's worse than a kid!
Now my tomorrow is free from everything except cooking all day, but I"m looking forward to it. If my back holds out. It's very sore right now. Too much riding in the car and sitting around today I think.

Carolyn, LOVE the pic!! thanks for sharing. I still want to see the Bees movie.

Hi gals..

Prozak: Hey, one pound is one pound.. Love your little carb counter..

Got home from my neighbor's party..It was fun..I had no sweets, but a few taco chips and some legal stuff..............and a glass of Asti..(I never have wine)..

Don't forget to "fall back" tonight. That will be great for us..

I ordered my book from the UK..It was in stock, but who knows when it will get here..My dh said the
"dollar" was up in the UK, so I'm hoping it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg..
