Morning!

As expected, I weigh exactly the same today as when I joined the September thread. (166) But I'm not too down about that. I've learnt so much - about low carbing and fats in general, about my body and how it reacts to dairy and salt, and about low carb cooking (eg cauliflower rice!)

And I've eaten some wonderful food, which I continue to enjoy - I've lost the cravings for bread, rice, cakes etc and best of all I don't have that constant hungry, deprived feeling I used to have when low fat dieting

Oh - and I met you all

So it's been a good month diet wise - even if I didn't lose any weight

xxx

Lola - that's so sweet!

Carolyn - I like the new name - good choice!

I'm claiming yesterday's weight since I haven't weighed yet today.

Good morning! I love the new October name as well!
Here is my weigh in:
Aug. 1 226.6
Sept. 1 223.4
Oct. 1 220.6
Also, on my tanita scale my % of body fat is slowly going down. It got as high as 53.5 and this morning it was 50.3. That varies so much from hour to hour that I don't pay too much attention to it but have noticed lately that it is definitely getting lower. A GOOD thing
Today is errand day, but my friend can't go shopping tonight, so it will just be me out there running around. I definitely get more done when I go by myself but she is great company.
DH was due home tomorrow but jobs went better than expected, so he is thinking he will be home sometime this afternoon.
Got all my travel arrangements made yesterday and last night for Dominican next May, haven't made DH's yet b/c he is only staying 4 days, I am staying 7, so his will be a different reservation, flight plans, etc. Several of us were going to fly using miles but I happened to log onto American's website last night and found a super saver of $149 each way that would work for some of us, so nabbed that. The last time we looked the flight was over $700.
Carolyn, you did great for your Sept. loss. MK, let's see, yesterday, you weighed the same as me , keep up the good work girl!! Lola, bet you do see a loss this month, last month you were adjusting and learning how to eat well and feed your body what it needs. It will learn after awhile that hey, she is going to keep feeding me this way, I can turn loose of some of these lbs now
to everyone else, find your way over here to our new October challenge. When does that ornery little Sandy get off the beach and back to us, next weekend???
Oh, I will have to find out from the doctors office, when I go Oct. 22nd, what I weighed when I first saw them in May. I know it was either 235ish or maybe even 240ish. I was so unhappy about it I certainly was not keeping track of it.

RVL, I am not a menu person, I just eat what sounds good at the moment and always try to have some meats either cooked up or ready to cook. I eat a lot of eggs. Where I get more ideas than I can ever possibly get tried is from the "Lowcarb Recipe Help and Suggestions" board. There are sooo many threads on there about different foods, great recipes, different veggies to try, I get great ideas there. Also, on the main board, I get lots of ideas there as well.
I basically eat 2 meals a day, just the way my body gets hungry. Yesterday was:
Lunchtime I had 2 fried eggs, 3 strips bacon and a Joesph's LC pita, which I had toasted, buttered and sprinkled with sweetner and cinnamon.
Dinner was brisket, which I had slow roasted for 24 hours, some mixed cauliflower/broccoli and I made a cream gravy out of the juices from the brisket, which I poured over the mashed veggies. I was going to have an egg cream later in the evening but got busy and forgot to have it, really wasn't hungry.
My calories were too low yesterday which is very unusual for me but I just wasn't hungry for some reason.
Hope this helps a little.

Hello and Welcome Lirpas and RVL

A couple of days menus from me -

I always start the day with eggs - yesterday was three eggs scrambled with butter

lunch was a grilled trout with sauteed zuchini

dinner was chopped liver (chicken livers sauteed in quite a bit of butter, then pureed with the melted butter with a very finely chopped hard boiled egg mixed in at the end. I served dollops of it in baby lettuce heart leaves) I also had about 100g of raspberries for pudding

todays breakfast was blood sausage (boudin noir) and two eggs fried in butter

lunch was an odd sort of omelette - two eggs and a very small amount of blue cheese and some left over spaghetti squash. I sauteed the squash, added the crumbled cheese and then poured over the beaten eggs. OK - it wasn't my finest hour in the kitchen - it tasted far better than it looked though...

dinner this evening was a pork chop with buttered broccoli followed by raspberries again

I have to give up cheese - I don't have enough control around the stuff - so I'm trying to use up the little I have left in the fridge sparingly

Hey there all. I've been around LowCarbFriends for a while and usually post here and there, but I told myself that as soon as the Oct thread started for this, I was going to jump in. Here again, an intro is in order, I guess. I'm 55, married to my pal, mom to 3, a grandma of 2. I have a couple of health issues that are positively or negetively effected by what I put in my mouth...
Take Wellbutrin, Seraqul (I never can spell that right!) and lithium. Last month my blood work was way out of whack, found out I had Celiac and the antiphychotic plus Celiac had suppressed my white cells to dangerous level. I always wondered why I always felt SO much better low-carb! Anyway, I've been experimenting (with Dr.s approval) and I've felt wonderful since trying to follow these guidlines. Thank you verrrry much. Had blood work done just an hour ago, am anxious to see if these changes have made a difference. I've made some of the recipes I found in last month's thread (Strawberry Breakfast Pankcake, Pancakes, Coconut Bark...) are the recipes we use for this form of low-carb in any one place in the recipe room besides being scattered thruout past threads? I started out 209 last month and this morning at doctor's 193. Want to get down to around 160. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Good afternoon, ladies..

Weigh-in for October 1 was 143..down 5 pounds from the beginning of the month. I am happy about this as my pants fit better than they did a month ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for you Buffy.. Slow and steady is the key to keeping it off..

MaryKay: Yup, you are on the downside, too..(tiny little MaryKay)..Brett survived his first swimming class last night. He is with some "swimteam" kids, so maybe they will help him out. He feels good about the class..And, he is coming home this weekend..Big shock there. They have Monday off so he will be home after the football game on Saturday. His roomies are going home, too..

Lirpas: Welcome..welcome. If I went off LCing, I know I would gain my weight back, too. SO....I stick to it. Welcome..

Lola: Hey, staying the same is better than gaining. I do think your body needs a few months to adjust to the fact that you are actually going to feed it regularly and not lowfat stuff. I'm sure you will have a loss in October..

RVL: Welcome...We are a pretty "loose" group for the most part. I think most of us try to keep carbs down, protein in the "adequate" area without overdosing, and don't worry about the fat. My menus are so scattered as I made almond cake of some variety for breakie with an egg...Salad with tuna/or a hamburger for lunch, Dinner is meat, and a couple of veggies..I avoid grains for most of the time. Although I had some tuna salad on one piece of Ezekiel bread for lunch today..

Wonder if Sandy is having fun????????????/

Hi to Zilla and Prozak and Shon..

Hi happiladi! And congratulations on your weight loss

I'm still finding my way around this site so I'm not a huge expert. I think the recipe forums are just categorised by type of dish (ie desserts, meat, pizzas etc) rather than way of eating

The other ladies should be able to help more

I'm right on Kansas/MO/Ark/OK borders...Miami, OK. Thanks you all. I'm on a recipe search now. My sis, that also has Celiac, gave me some nice gluten-free cookbooks. Gluten-free doesn't always equate low-carb, and her reaction to "such high fat" is...well have you ever seen that smiley, or whatever they're called, that slaps it's forhead then faints to the floor. Yeah, that's her reaction. She's nice about it though. I'm the oldest.

My good friend's ex runs the Goodrich/Goodyear? Warehouse in Miami..They are "together" again, so she goes down there..I'm familiar with Miami. Yeah, non-LCer's don't understand the fat thing. When she sees you losing weight, she will stop slapping her head..

Wow, I came here to check on a friend that Buffy and I had on Happy Hour Fwens (that was the name of the thread Buffy, I just remembered) and I bump into several other friends that I have. MK and Sandy.

I started low carb on Monday, I'm pre-diabetic and need to get control of this before I become diabetic. I do several threads and I would love to join if you all don't mind me joining. Talk to you later. I think I know Prozac from one of the threads but can't remember which one. Maybe South Beach???? Which one, Prozac??? This thread was like stumbling onto old friends. hehe. I'm going to look this WOE up online and see what it's about exactly. I think I've seen the book before.

Yay, you made it over here Rebecca!

April and Happyladi! Join right in.

My cleaning lady told me I looked thinner today, . I haven't seen her for awhile

Got most of my errands ran this afternoon but not quite all, I ran out of steam. Groceries will have to wait until Friday when I have to go to the bank. One of those days when I needed just 1 or 2 things from many different places, but it was a beautiful day out.

Carolyn, it is harder than a person thinks to not drink anything for 90 - 120 minutes after a meal! Or for me it is, I am always so thirsty, more than ever now because I am taking a zrytec every night. I have a hard time not drinking before I eat because I take my metformin right before I eat, so have to drink then but I have been trying to go 90-120 minutes after the meal. Digest away ole tum tum.

Buffy, I notice that I'm thirsty some days more than others, which is what tipped me off that there may be a problem. Drink, pee, drink, pee. Blurred vision. Today when I took my mom to the shoulder surgeon I drank a 32 oz water on the way and she asked me if I could stop and get her an oj cuz she was getting shaky and I said "yes, I want a diet coke." When I went into Speedway the bottled water was yelling my name. That would have never happened before, I hardly ever drank water, now I drink so much I feel like I'm floating away.

It feels like autumn in Ohio, at least the Dayton area. It only got up to 60* today, Mom was freezing, me going through meno, I was JUST RIGHT. I about died when I would go into her nursing home room this summer and it would be so darn hot and she was chilly. I would crank up the a/c when I'd get to the car. It think it's only suppose to be in the 60's all week.

Hi ladies..

I think the key is to allow our food to digest before we glug down water.. Sometimes I will drink at less than 90 minutes..If I am thirsty, I do drink then.

Rebecca: Welcome...I have a cousin who lives in Kettering..Is that near you???????

Tomorrow is my long volunteer day...selling tickets for our big Neewollah week in October.................. Luckily, our temp store is right next to my favorite coffee shop..

Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking and around the EFGT threads. My wt. stayed the same in Sept. although I hoped for a drop. I continue to "learn" this WOE with all your help.
I am leaving for a west coast vacay tomorrow & I need help. Could some of you post what you suggest for "high fat snack".

Jer, right off the top of my head I think nuts and cheese.

But Carolyn, I am thirst 24/7, not kidding. Have always been that way. It isn't unusual for me to get up in the night and drink 8 - 10 oz of water on my trip to the bathroom, of course, no wonder I have to get up to go to the bathroom!

It feels like Autumn here in TX, probably not as cool as it is elsewhere but the days are shorter, and our awful heat is gone for another year, thank heavens.

Good morning everyone and a special welcome to all our new friends!

I'll start the morning today, but I need some of MK's coffee! I've not been allowed to have any for a few weeks, but it's ok now, so I'm looking forward to a good cup to get me going! And I know MK will oblige!

Finally permitted to start back on my program, but I'm supposed to "take it easy", whatever that means. Thought I'd try just some scrambled eggs this morning and take it from there. The mononucleosis has really taken a toll, but I'm starting to get my appetite (not so much energy) back, so we'll see what happens. Some things just don't sound too appetizing yet.

It's really a fall-type day here today - temp is only 47. Not ready for this yet, but I guess cooler beats hot & humid anyday!

Good news!

DS16 was voted sophomore escort for his HS's Homecoming this weekend.

Guess he'll have to go to the dance now!

Coffee? Does someone need coffee?

I'm definitely needing coffee, mmmmmmm good, loves coffee!
Lola, WTG on starting the month off with a bang! Mr. Scale was nice to me this morning also, I was down 1.6 lbs from yesterday AM. Loved it as it put me in the 2 teens instead of the 220's.
Whoo Hoo MK for DS on homecoming escort!! He'll be so handsome, will he have a date for the dance? My oldest grandson is 15 and his sister is 16, mom promised to send me pictures of them all dressed up for the fall social dance they recently went to.
Shon, so glad you are getting better, although I know what a slow recovery it is with mono, had it once along with pneumonia and a 6 month old baby and 3 older kids, I didn't think I would ever recover. I was in the hospital for a short period of time, that was back when insurance allowed people to go to the hospital you know.
I was supposed to get my 4 month old DGS to keep this afternoon while his mommy did some shopping but I still have a sore throat so am going to have to pass on it. I also am supposed to get to keep him Sunday afternoon, so will look forward to that.
So, just more office work for me and wash up DH's clothes from his trip out of town.
Lady Elk's meeting tonight.
