Hi ladies..

Okay..this is my personal opinion and experience doing EFGT for a couple of years. I could never eat 2,000 calories and lose..never, ever, ever..ever. A few peeps can that are athletes or big muscled, etc. So, if we are not losing on the plan and your carbs are in a good mode..no cheating..then cut back to 1500 and see what happens.

One of our gals (in the olden days) took in 2,000 calories and gained 17 pounds in 6 weeks. So, she ditched the plan. The plan is an excellent plan, but it is still about
calories..especially with women.. Just my 2 cents worth..

I am down to 144 again this morning..Getting control of my eating is when I lose weight..Quantities do count. And, those nommie almonds, etc..taste so darned good that is so easy to overdose..Been there, done that..

Hugs all around..Gotta go to Bible Study..

Sandy - hi! I have thought for a long time that I may be entering the menopause. Not so much for any physical reason, but because I am incredibly emotional. All the time! I cry really easily (mostly at very happy things) and am a bit soppy. I mentioned it to a doctor a year ago and he just poo-poo'd the whole idea. But I think we know our own bodies, despite what any tests would prove anyway

Star - I feel fine - and I don't get tired in the afternoons like I used to. My nails and skin are looking great too. Today though, has been a bit rough - this is my heaviest weight ever. I caught sight of myself at the gym today and it wasn't pretty. I feel very unattractive and cumbersome and rather low. I was this weight last year and joined a gym for the first time in my life, and went on a strict low fat diet. I lost 13 lbs by Christmas but then ate like a pig back home at my mothers! Never really got the momentum back

I was kinda hoping that this way of eating would work quicker than last years diet but it looks like I'm just going to have to be patient

Thanks for your input and good wishes everyone. One thing that helps is visiting this thread regularly (even if I don't always post)

well I guess I'll drop the calories

but the impression I got from the book is that calories don't really matter - that the eating plan was not low calorie...

Oh well - hope I don't feel hungry!

Lola, please email Barry and have him explain the calorie thing. I have to say I'm one of the lucky ones who can eat a lot of calories and still lose. Slowly. And if not really losing much I can maintain. Carolyn thinks that's b/c I work out and I'm tall and that's probably part of it but Zilla said she has to watch her calories too. I think everybody is just different and you have to find what works for you with this WOE as with any other. People are always tweaking the plan they're on for them and I think that's just natural. I used to work for Weight Watchers and we were always advising adjustments to a person's plan if they weren't losing. I think there's just not a "one plan fits all" plan out there. I do however think there's a "healthy" for all plan out there and that is one that limits bad carbs and promotes healthy eating. I do think it takes our bodies some time to adjust to this WOE and I think Barry says not to worry about calories b/c our bodies will eventually balance itself out. We though don't want to wait for our bodies to balance. We want to hurry it along. You know what I mean? I know I tend to overeat beyond hunger just because I like the food or I'm nervous or whatever. That tends to add calories I certainly don't need. If I make sure what I'm eating if what I'm supposed to be eating though I won't gain weight. If I'd learn how to eat only to my hunger my body would probably balance itself much more quickly. But that doesn't seem to be part of my makeup. Not right now anyway. I'm always striving for it though.

Please don't give up.

Thanks Sandy - I promise I have no intention of giving up! I'd rather be eating 1500 calories of EFGT food than low fat food...

I only very recently emailed Barry with another question (to which he very kindly replied) so I don't really want to bug him again so soon, especially as I mentioned that I wasn't losing yet but I'm not that bothered. Ha! that was before I gained 4 lbs!

I'll drop the calories, maybe try the eggs only thing for a couple of days (when I've eaten all the veg I have right now) and if that doesn't get things moving I'll contact him again

Lola, I should have been more specific....

Calories didn't matter at all for me AT FIRST. NOW do they matter. The first 40 lbs practically FELL off and then for months...nothing.

I agree that for most the calories do count. For the lucky ones, at first they may not have to be lowered, and for the very very lucky, maybe never. When I first tried LC and Barry's plan I had a huge appetite and try as I might, I could never be satisfied on much less than 2000 calories or more. So, I didn't lose but what fascinated me was that I could maintain on 2000 plus. It is different for me now, but it all has to do with the diabetes and the meds I think, I am not very hungry anymore at all and think that in the past my blood sugar must have just been running high and that made me hungry, not sure though and that sure doesn't help anyone else out.
My GF has asked me to choose a restaurant for tonight and I still can't think which one I want to go to. I want to keep it inexpensive for her sake since she is treating me.

Yup....Sandy has a metabolism like a Jack Rabbit..I'm more like a turtle..and I do think some of us are more on the "turtle" side.

Lola: From Barry's book you can get the idea that you can chow down on 2,000 calories and still lose. However, we all know peeps who can eat anything and still be thin..(Don't we hate those peeps?).. But, then there is the rest of the world.

Dr. A. once said that when we lowcarb we have the metabolic advantage, which allows us to eat about 300 calories more than someone who is on a lowfat diet. Alas, it's not an "all you can buffet"....Believe me, I love to eat..I have had to learn portion control bigtime. However, the food we eat when we are lowcarbing..especially fatty things, keeps us full, so we aren't starving to death..That's another advantage..

Have a fun birthday dinner, Buffy..I'm glad you like that cat.. I love him..

Food for thought.
One thing I have noticed about myself with Low Carb eating is the amount of carbs in one meal. I try to keep each meal to around 10 carbs. I don't watch the calories per meal just the carbs. Anything over a max of 15 carbs per meal and I get sleepy. With me that indicates an insulin dump. I know I am hyperglycemic. If I eat an apple I will sleep for 2 hours and wake up angry. If I keep my carbs around 10 per meal I have no repercussions. My total calorie intake is between 1200 and 1500 per day according to Fitday program calculation. I was losing but I think my body is resting now. To come out of the rest mode I have increased my activity level and continued the same calorie and WOE.
One thing I learned during my research on low carb/ diabetes and menopause was that when the body decreases its production of estrogen it will increase the production of insulin.

Well, I'm actually up 2.5 pounds since Sunday!!!! All I can figure is my questionable weekend came back to bite me in the butt. Plus I started working out again Monday and I'm so sore so I know I'm holding fluid. Plus I've eaten 2 very salty meals 2 days in a row. Maybe I'll pee it off today. But I'm meeting my BFF for lunch and she's picking the place. I hope she picks a good one.

Hi Sandy!

I can be up and down all week if I don't watch very carefully.
I'm sure you'll pee it out today!

Good Morning all! I am up 3 lbs today, I had some things last night I shouldn't have, that old mindset of rewarding one's self on the birthday. So, eating clean as a whistle today, have to fly tomorrow and that always makes me bloaty too.
Just have to finish up some things in the office, run a few errands and pack today, my flight is at 7 something in the morning so all will have to be done before bedtime tonight.
I am going to have to get up to date and figure out what facebook is all about????
