My highest in August was: 124.8.
My lowest in August was: 121.2.

So that means I lost 3.6 lbs.

However,

Since my August 1 weight was 122.8 and my September 1 weight was 121.8, I guess I only lost 1 pound!

I think I like the other numbers better!

Either way, I'm happy!
I lost!

I'm not proud to announce that I gained 4.5 pounds since Aug. 1. I really didn't but after this crazy weekend of partying that's what my scale shows. I know most of it is water/bloat and will drop quickly, so I probably just stayed the same. I'll try to do better this month.

But we have one more stupid party today!!!! Waaaaaaaa!

Parties are fun!!

That's why I started looking at the total month - not just the starting and ending weight since we know how much those can fluctuate!!

I was 226.6 August 1 and today I was 223.4 . I really haven't had much of an appetite lately, not sure if it is the metformin or what, but I really don't want to eat much, you would think the weight would just be falling off. My Dr. mentioned last time I was there for the diabetes that I was "really insulin resistant", which I kind of know what that means but don't have a real clear understanding of it. I guess that is why it is so hard for me to lose but I need to really study it more to understand it. And, even if I understand it, it won't change it, so I will probably just keep plugging along. To be honest, I am not so concerned with my weight anymore, I am keeping my blood sugar numbers right where they should be, so will continue to concentrate on learning how to eat for that and hope the weight slowly continues to drop. I was trying on some tops yesterday that were pretty snug 2 months ago and they are fitting nicely, I can tell my shape is slimmer but it doesn't show much on the scale.
Sandy, you just picked a bad weekend to be bloated, right at weigh in time, we will let you weigh in again when that goes away
MK, I like both your sets of numbers

Well, it is just 2 weeks until my son's wedding, Sept. 13th. I talked to my future DIL yesterday to go over some plans. Next weekend some friends are throwing a bridal shower for her so I am driving down the day before. She is the color manager at a very nice salon and I told her I had gotten a bad haircut, did she think there was any way she could get one of their best stylist to trim up my hair and try to make it look better next Sat. She said sure, she would set it up and while there, she would put a glaze on my hair to make it shiny, I can't wait!!! If it wasn't 3 1/2 hours away I would go to her salon for everything. Then we talked about what everyone was wearing for the wedding, small backyard family wedding, but what I had picked out sounds like it will go along with everyone's outfits just fine. Now I need to figure out what DH needs to wear. It all sounds like fun and we are so excited to have her in our family, she is perfect for my son.

Hi dear friends..

Made it back from Des Moines safely..380 miles.. I waved to you Sandy as I was travelling through KC..I had fun..way too many carbs in the form of muffin, pad thai, and wine..So, I was a gainer, too. Up to 149 pounds. It's amazing how fast this weight goes on, isn't it? So, I'm back on plan. I made some almond flour biscotti this morning. It was pretty good..

Yippee to Buffy and MaryKay on losing and I'm sure Zilla will have a loss as soon as Aunt Flo gets on the bus..

Buffy: Yes, definitely drive 3 1/2 hours for a new "do"...especially for pictures. Glad you lost some weight..However, the glucose number is more critical, but weight loss will be a result of good "glucose" numbers.

Saw my dd and dsinlaw this weekend in Des Moines. It was fun being with them..They met some college friends from Grimes and had their own fun. The shower was very nice and Alexis(btobe) was very grateful.

The wedding is October 25th in Des Moines..so I have a goal to be at 141 by then...So, my slimmer in September goal should be a solid 143!!!!!

Hugs all around..Nice to be back..

I wasn't around to weigh on Aug 1, but I have lost 11lbs since I bought my new scale on July 1. I believe at LEAST -6 in July, so I will say -5 for August.

168 today... and really bloated and crampy, not because of TOM but because of ovulation

Welcome back Carolyn!
We tried to hold down the fort while you were gone!!

Zilla - you get a pass!

Buffy - wow! 2 weeks!
You deserve a shiny new hairstyle! You'll have to post pics for us!

I walked this morning and helped DD21 move more stuff into her room.
Now she needs things put up on the wall so I sent DH over.

Prozak -

I need to post a new picture, the one in my avatar is almost 6 years old, but I like it b/c it is one of the few good pictures of me. I have no idea what they will be able to do with my hair, I hate the way the girl cut it 2 weeks ago, the back is real short and the sides are long, which if cut right, is a cute style but this is a bad cut and on me I think the sides make me look like a basset hound . So, it is going to have to be something short but like I told one of my DD's last night, it can't look any worse.

Prozak, , you is the weiner this month!!!!! WTG

Welcome back Carolyn, sounds like you had a great time, glad you got to see DD and DSIL and I am sure the shower was wonderful and always appreciated.

Zilla, kick TOM to the curb!!

Hi - I'm a newbie here and I'd like to join in your September weight loss thread

I'm an English girl (44 yrs old) living in South West France. I've struggled with my weight all my adult life - I think my heaviest has been 172 lbs and lowest 140. I'm 165 lbs at the moment and have been on a low carb high fat regimen for a week now.

I have done Atkins a few times in the past - the first time I lost 20lbs but successive times haven't been so successful. I found I became a bit depressed during the diet, gave up after a couple of weeks and of course piled on weight in the process.

About this time last year I joined a gym and got serious about exercise, went on a low fat diet and lost 13 lbs by Christmas 2007, but over ate like a pig once home at my mother's for the holidays andput on half the weight again - 9 months later it's still there. I seem to start so many diets, lose a few pounds and then give up and regain it very easily.

Recently I've been reading about low carb high fat regimens ( and discovered some interesting articles by Gary Taubes and Art Devaney) and am convinced that this is the way to go. I also found you lovely lot during my research which is great

I'm fascinated by the whole "Kimmer" thing - sounds ghastly!

So - hello to all and I'm starting September at 75 kilos or 165 Lbs and hope to lose a pound or two a week.

xxx

Thanks TG

I'm sure if I had had any kind of interaction with Kimmer I would have been unable to look away too - I have spent far too long reading about her today as it is!

May I ask a quick question? I am just sort of adjusting into this LCHF (low carb high fat) diet - I'm back to using Fitday.com too, and find my ratios are fine - fat 70% protein 20% and carbs 10%. However my calories seem quite high - around 2100 per day. If I want to lose 2 lbs a week should I be dropping the calories? If so - to what level?

Thanks

xxx

It would depend on what you weigh and what you should weigh . . .

Usually I leave the technical questions to Carolyn or Zilla ~ I'm just here for moral support and cheerleading!

Kimmer - I never did her diet or even talked to her . . . well maybe briefly before she was a "star" but I have spent hours reading the posts !

Hello Lola and WELCOME!!!

Seriously I would not worry about calories right now.. get your body into fat burning mode (even feel free to up the fat at some point....as long as you lower the carbs in relation..)

There are theories (Gary Taubes, love him...) that IF a person gets themselves into a caloric deficit... their bodies will(on their own, without any help from us) lower the energy expenditure (breathing, pulse, blinking, sweating etc....) to make up for it. it can also make some people feel hungry, so we end up replacing those cals anyway, in some form over time.

If you are not feeling hungry nor overstuffed.. I would remain there for now, there is ZERO need to be hungry, ever. It is REALLY hard to get used to, especially people who have lived in some form of starvation for a period of time to try to lose weight. One can hardly believe that feeling satisfied and full can actually make us slimmer! But it is the golden truth.

I get anywhere from 1200-2000.. I hover mostly around 1500 cals and am losing 5-7lbs a week (42lbs since March, 12 on induction so that is 30lbs in around 20 weeks..)

I do eat more fat... around 80-85%, and very little carbs (10-20 max), but that is a personal choice after much tweaking and finding what made me feel the best.

1lb a week is probably more realistic, and you may find as you get closer to goal it will slow and you may have to adjust your food intake. You will probably be all over the place, especially at first it may come off quicker!

Give it another week or 2 before trying to adjust is my first though

Hi Lola..and welcome!

The gals are right..just let your appetite be your guide. However, if you find yourself not losing, then cut back on the portions. Many of us have had portion control "issues"..LOLOL..

The higher fat regime should help control insulin/appetite, so we enjoy not being hungry.
The Kimmer Saga is truly a soap opera that keeps going on and on. Justice will be done..but it takes a while sometimes.

Barry and Monica do eat the majority of their food during the first 2 meals..So, that might be something that some of us might try if we think we need to. I found that I cannot eat late at night and lose weight. Beef is especially difficult late night cuz it seems to sit and not digest during the night (or something).

Hope you all had a nice Labor Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is 1:19am and I am awake. Not because I want to be, but because my allergies are so bad right now I want to take a long stick, poke it all the way through my head so I can scratch the insides of both ears. The itchy eyes and drippy nose aren't helping either. If you look at the country map on pollen.com, I live in the red area in Colorado. Bleh!

Hopefully this stupid allergy pill will kick in soon so I can get back to bed.
