Ouch! I have three cats of my own, one of which enjoys a little nibble on my fingers while I tickle her tummy. Haven't had one chomp me on the cheek, though! Not a pleasant way to start the morning, but the video of the little ones must've made up for that, easily. That sounds like a fun email to get in the morning.

Coffee for the troops? Good idea, love it! Guess I'll order a pound of their coffee. I sent coffee to my cousin's hubby when he was in Afghanistan, and he liked that a lot.

*Why* does the Moose Munch coffee appeal to me so much, too? It isn't logical -- either it should make me think of ground up moose, or moosechow in a bag, neither of which should sound tasty. But It makes me think of chocolate! What kind of weird braintrip am I having to get that connection? Explain the inner workings of my mind to me, friends, so I won't worry about my sanity all day.

I'll sip my Sumatran coffee and nibble on bacon while I wait for you to shrink my head for me...

Happy Birthday, Shon!!!!!

Buffy: I made nut flours out of nuts. I grind them in my Bullet..or food processor, etc. And the chocolate chips are called Carbwell. I think netrition sells them. You can also chop up some 85 percent ghiradelli chocolate bars or make your own chips from unsweetened chocolate, splenda, butter, and vanilla.
You can also use coconut oil, too.

Coffee..I only use specialty coffees for decaf..either Gevalia, Starbucks, Millstone (at Wallie is pretty good), etc..etc..

Friday is our weigh-in day, gals.. or Then we have to think of another name for August's thread..Any ideas?

I think we should call August our "Is it October yet?" thread. <g>

Naw, not really. I'd suck at thinking up good names for these threads.

Carolyn, where did you post the recipe? I want to copy it down so when the weather cools enough to allow me to order the chocolate, I can make some. My son is praying for an early freeze so I can order chocolate. LOL

Lene: We could do a "school" theme...Our girls are quite clever with names.. I just posted this recipe on the Recipe thread a few minutes ago.

I'm going to go make Dotties Pumpkin Pound Cake for the boys for breakfast. (and me, too). They gobbled up the apple and the blueberry one I made.

Actually rotten, spoiled bad boy Tinker didn't bite hard enough to even hurt, it is his way of "telling" me that he doesn't like or isn't going to do something I think he should.
Carolyn, netrition doesn't have the carbwell chips anymore, but I think just chopping up a high cocoa content bar would work fine. I saw the recipe, it looks good and easy.
Went to the full dose of 2000 mg metformin yesterday, a little tummy distress but not too bad. Waiting for the weight loss to begin

Lene, the only thing I don't like about the "Is it October yet" is that it reminds me that once we get the cooler weather, it is then the hectic holiday season. ARRGGGHHH!!! This year has just been a blur to me.

It's been so hot here and forecast is calling for more that all I can come up with is

"August Meltdown"

And can only hope and pray that happens. I'll be happy if I've stayed the same to be honest.

Hi everyone and thanks for the Birthday wishes!

Caroline had the amnio this morning and we are a go for tomorrow at 1:00! We are all so excited. I'll keep you posted tomorrow.

Been a busy day - dh took me to breakfast this morning then went to work. I went to the grocery store, farmers market, drug store, post office, dry cleaners and library, then to lunch with my gf. Needless to say, I'm wiped out and feel every bit of 59 today! I'm going to make some iced coffee and call it a day. Dh is bringing dinner home - grilled salmon and salad take-out. It's a good thing 'cuz I'm too worn out to cook! Hope everyone has a good evening.

That sounds amazing!

DD21 and I spent the day rescuing a kitten.
DD found him when she was running so we took her to the vet.
She may be blind in one eye, but besides that she's healthy - we think.
There's always the feline leukemia to worry about.
But she's 1.25 lbs! and they think about 4 weeks old.
I think DD24 may take her home!

There's so much going on, I haven't had time to worry about being 50!

Good morning everyone. I found a French Coffee Press at Albertson's last night for $14. That was about what I would have paid online after shipping so I grabbed it. Now I have to see what all the fuss is about

Morning all.
Baby day, how exciting! I got to be in the delivery room when my last grandson was born, it was awesome.
Need to look for a birthday cake recipe for you birthday girls, how about chopped liver, formed into a cake???? Huh, that sound yummy???
The good news is: We are waiting this morning for a new 65 inch tv to be delivered. The bad news is: We bought one just over 4 years ago and the stupid thing already went bad and it was going to cost $1,000 to fix it!!! So, we just spent $1800 and got a brand new one, man, things don't last like they used to.
I am on my full 2000 mg dose of metformin now and last night after dinner my BS was 84, I about fell out of my chair! It hasn't been below 100 since I started testing. Still adjusting just a little to the tummy distress it can cause but that is supposed to go away with time.
Carolyn, what is faux curves?

Zilla, I've got a press, although I don't use it much nowadays -- I tend to use the filter kind where I boil water in the kettle and pour the water over the grounds by hand. But the press always makes great coffee -- hope you like it!

Shon, hope all goes well with the baby! How exciting it is, knowing today's the day. I can't wait to hear when the new little one is here!

MK, I *need* that coffee. Barring that, I need to get off my duff and go whip up a little bit of cream to blop on my own next cup. Maybe some good Vietnamese cinnamon sprinkled on top, too...

Danny baked "real" chocolate chip cookies last night. I'd told him I plan to make the ones Carolyn posted as soon as I get the LC chocolate, but he was dying for cookies *now*. It took him twice as long as normal to make them, because he got tired halfway through and had to take a break and rest on the sofa, but he wouldn't let me finish them for him, because he was afraid they'd tempt me too much. They look wonderful, of course, but I actually don't feel any stirrings for them, which may be a result of the increase in the metformin -- I was *sooooo* sick last night, cramps and nausea and the runs, and all -- and even today I feel mildly ill and not inclined to pilfer cookies.

What kind of amused me was that he told me he plans to only eat 2 cookies a day so he won't be "too bad." Heh, that's still two cookies more than he normally eats, but I don't think it'll be *too* terribly awful for him, esp. since he used just a small bag of M&Ms instead of the normal amount of chocolate chips, and used whole wheat flour and the Splenda version of brown sugar.

Oh, and August Meltdown sounds like a great name! How do you guys think of these things?

Buffy, you're doing the 2000 mg of metformin? How long did you take to titrate up to that amount? I've been on the 500 mg for a good while now, but have just added a second 500 mg pill daily, and am supposed to work up to the 2000 mg, but boy, is this stuff doing a number on me! I plan to stick it out, and luckily I don't have to be out and about much so it isn't like I need to worry about being horrified in public, but mercy, my guts are getting me. Did you have GI distress at every increase along the way?

Coffee: Wifezilla, I don't even know what a coffee press does or what it is for? Is it to make espresso?
Mary Kay, does your "handservant" bring you that cuppa in bed each morning? My cup is almost that elegant, it is one of those tall plastic insulated mugs that says Schlitz on it
We went to a local meat shop yesterday, they advertised New York Strips for $6.99. We got 6 of those, and then they had really nice looking rib eyes for $8.99 so I got one of those for me for dinner, Dave was having ham. The rib eye was delicious, only thing it was so big, I ate half of it and having the other half today. I also picked up a roast that looked nice. Hadn't been in a real old fashioned meat market for a long time.

That meat all sounds wonderful! It really is kinda nice being able to go to an old-fashioned meat market, isn't it? Jeff and I have decided we're going to start buying all our beef and pork from the little meat market a couple blocks away in our small town. It's owned by a local farmer who decided to cut out the middle man and sell to the public himself, and he has it packed at a local locker that is well known to be very clean and to inspect every cow or pig individually before killing and processing them. For chicken, I've started buying only the whole Smart chickens (no arsenic!) at the regular grocery store, despite not being very good at cutting them up myself. I just figured it doesn't matter if the pieces look funny. <g>

Lena, I moved up from 500 to 2000 in one week, which was probably too fast but I wasn't having nearly as much problem with it as you. I increased every 3 days. But, I increased to the 2000 on Tuesday and again yesterday and oh my, last night I was up running to the bathroom about every 2 hours all night. I am sure mine isn't nearly as bad as some, I just have some mild stomach hurting for about 2 hours after I eat and then what happened last night. I should have taken it slower. How long have you been taking it? I keep reading that it does wear off so hoping for you that will happen soon. My cousin takes the version that isn't extended release and never once had a side effect!!! But, that witch never had one hot flash either, so we are allowed to almost hate her
