Good morning everyone. Farmer's markets are fun to go to, Dallas has a huge one downtown and the various burbs have them. I get to where I don't buy much in the way of fresh veggies because I am the only one eating them, DH hardly eats any veggies, fruits, etc. Don't worry, he is so healthy it is sinful. I like those Birdseye steamer frozen veggies, I try to keep a variety in the freezer. One package which is 4 servings gives me about 3 nice sized servings. I did fix a fresh head of cauliflower this past week and have been eating on that. I just have to pick up the house today, my cleaning lady comes every other week on Sunday afternoons, do a little laundry and a little office work. I have spent too much time the past 2 days reading, I have about 4 books on diabetes started and am also reading a new Catherine Coulter book.

Tomorrow night my son and his fiance are driving up from Austin since she hasn't seen my daughter's new baby yet. Monday will be spent with them, they are getting married in Sept. and I want to go over the plans with her to see if there is anything more I can do to help. Small, intimate backyard wedding.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi all. Everybody sounds busy which is good. We're taking DGS to see Batman today. I hope it's good. Then we'll probably go to dinner. The tile is all done and tomorrow he'll grout it all. He's doing this as a side job so we're being very flexible with the timing. We got a great price so it's well worth it.

Crab legs last night, they were great!!

Sandy: Brett loved the movie..Let me know if "adults" would enjoy it. We need our bathroom done...it's hard when you live in a small town with not very good help..

I made an Almond Sour Cream Blueberry Cake this afternoon..........It is very nommie..
I added a cup of sour cream because when I made my apple cake, it was pretty dry..
That made a world of difference.

I just need a plumber!!! Our bathtub drains sooo slowly and even though I have poured many dollars down it, it is still slow, needs professional help, and, we now have a slow drip in there. DH conveniently forgets it so I am going to have to set up an appt. I guess. Much more fun to be "redoing" a bathroom
Carolyn, I remember when I lived in the midwest in a small town, there were just a very few carpenters around and were in high demand.
Where is the link to your cake recipe Carolyn, that sounds good. I KNOW you don't eat all these yummy things you make, are Gary and Brett eating up those goodies?
I am working on making a sweet version of Linda's flax buns and they are turning out really good, I am making muffin tops out of them, then splitting them and toasting them, spreading with butter. When I get the recipe perfected I will post it. Today I added some unsweetened coconut to them and they are good, I just want to get a little bit more away from the amount of flaxmeal in them as they have just a little bit of that slimy mouthfeel to them, the taste is wonderful.
House is all picked up, laundry done and ready for cleaning lady tomorrow. I do need to get a little more done in my office. Have a nail appt. for 1:00 tomorrow and need to get a pedicure while I am out also.
1 more week and I go back for another xray to make sure pneumonia is all gone, it sure kicked my a&& this time, I don't likey!

The movie was pretty good. The guys all loved it and it held my interest so I hope that helps, lol.

I found my bath remodeler thru my kids. They ride motorcycles with so many different people I just asked if they knew anybody and they did. Come to find out this guy knows everybody me and DH grew up with and even works for an old friend of ours and has for 19 years! Small world even up here in the big city, lol.

My eating is horrible. Nuff said about that.

Confused!

I've been doing Low carb for several months. Only lost a couple of pounds with induction. I've bought Barry Groves new book and it seems like a good plan. Has anyone began losing and have more success after switching from atkins to groves? I'm ready to give up! I eat whole foods and range from 20-40 carbs a day. Any tips, info would be helpful. Thanks!

Don't overeat protein and eat plenty of fat. And some people have to "watch" the calories but alot just eat to satiety level. Right now I'm NOT a very good example of this WOE but I do love it.

BTW, welcome!!

What Sandy said. I lost 40 lbs following Barry's advice. While I still need to lose 20, keep losing inches and feel great. There are lots of reasons besides weight loss to follow Barry's plan. My blood pressure alone keeps me on the straight and narrow. It used to be 149/95 and now it is 101/62.

Good morning everyone! Another scorcher predicted today for Dallas, I shouldn't complain, I don't have to get out in the heat much anymore but I will be glad when it cools off to save on our A/C bill, plus, when it is this hot, you get all cleaned up and by the time you are out 5 minutes you feel hot and sweaty, your hair is limp and yucky, but, it will pass.
Excited because DS and fiance are coming up this evening. She is going to fill me in on all the plans for the wedding, can't wait to hear it all.
Curlygirly, I have a really hard time losing weight too but love how I feel on LC and plan on giving Barry's plan a try for several months. Mostly now b/c of diabetes control but hope it does start to lower my body fat. Since I restarted following Barry I get about 70% from fat, 20% from protein and 5% from carbs. I have trouble keeping the protein down so am working on eating smaller portions of meats.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.
Sandy, is Batman too old for an 8 yo? I like to take him to movies, he is gone to Canada for 2 weeks to see new stepgrandparents, but when he gets home I get to keep him for 2-3 days before school starts.

Buffy, I don't know about Batman for that young. It's pretty violent. I can't remember the rating but I bet it's R.

I'm trying to work up some resolve today to really get my butt back in gear. I've gained 10# since my mom died and I've got to stop this insanity!!

Whoops, that is not for him then. We stick to the G rated ones

Sandy, wow, me of all people know how hard it is to stick to a plan, I have always slipped up and my weight reflects this. Don't let this get out of hand, 10 lbs will be easy to lose, but 20,30,40, it just gets worse and worse, plus then you get depressed and want to eat all the more. My 3 daughters are all good about keeping their weight down, although they have to work at it, but I think they see what has happened to good ole Mom and they know to keep it in check. Take is a meal at a time, then a day at a time! You can do it

Just yesterday I decided to stay off the blasted scale as long as I can. It really does mess with my mind and I swear, the more I try to limit my calories the more I want to stuff my mouth. I decided for now to just enter my food and work towards my percentages of fat/carbs/protein and see how my blood sugar readings respond. I will try to not even look at the number of calories or the number on the scale, well, I am going to try to stay off the scale. I wish DH would hide it but he thinks that is silly and he uses it all the time, why I don't know, he has been thin all his frickin LIFE!!
The diabetes control is first and foremost now, keeping those numbers low and working with my new medication "metformin". I had some stomach upset the first 3 days I took it but now, no side effects, glad of that.
I use a program called Lifeform, have used it forever to track my percentages and I wish there were a way I could hide the calories, just keep them in the background but there isn't a way to do that. I will just try not to peek
You can do it Sandy, just for today!

Hi ladies..

Just got back from the farm to pick up some furniture for Brett's apartment. Three of us were squished in the front seat..(me in the middle). We realized that we couldn't fit all of the furniture in the back of truck with one trip..SO, we will have to take it back up the second time when we take him back to college..It's a 1991 little pickup and rides like a truck..and NO cupholders..LOLOL

Curly: Great advice..Watch the protein...It acts like carbs if you eat too much of it.

Hugs to everyone..........................

She's doing fine - having an amnio on Wednesday and if everything is ok, they'll do the c-section on Thursday - the day after my b-day! She asked to have it on Wednesday, but the dr isn't working that day. But the next day is just fine, too! I went up yesterday with my niece and sister and we had quite a time. We gave Caroline "the works" - did her hair, makeup, manicure, pedicure and massaged her back. Oh yeah, we shaved her legs for her, too!! Then the nurses came in and stood in line for theirs - it was too funny!

Hi all....

Book club was on Saturday. We had it in my back yard. I have this monster grape vine that has an arbor and I have chairs under it. Lots of candles, great weather, and copious amounts of wine made for some good fun.

No weight gain from the debauchery. Yeah!!!!

MMMMMM, coffee. Me loves me coffee.
Son and fiance got here last night, we stayed up and visited some, this morning my son is off to play golf and I told Emily to sleep in, she doesn't get to do that often. Then we are going to look at tv's and then to his sister's house to visit her and her new baby. Will be a fun day.
Anyone here still taking coconut oil? I use it in cooking but haven't taken it straight for a long time. I could use the energy, just not at bedtime, although I feel tired, I have the hardest time going to sleep, arrgghh!
New Niece Shon? How exciting!!

I'll let you know what next month's book is

If you want to play catch-up, read Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential" while drinking some Charles Schwab Chardonnay (Three Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's) while munching on artichoke dip on cucumber slices

There will be drama next month. We have this member who's sister moved to town. She wanted in the book club, so no problem...she's in. Then she stopped coming. Then she started coming again around the time we set the schedule for the year. Then she dropped out again and she is scheduled to host next month. He sister told her she needs to make up her mind...in or out...NOW! So we should know by Saturday what she decides.

We had this problem a few years ago with 2 other ex-members. They only wanted to host or go to one or two other people's houses, but didn't want to bother going to 3 other member's functions. What is wrong with some people?

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about giving this WOE a try. I did strict Atkins for several years but got stuck for 6 months and fell off the wagon. I've put 30 of the 70 pounds back on and I can't seem to lose more than 5 pounds on Atkins anymore.

I have Dr. Groves ebook Eat Fat Get Thin so I know a little bit about the program. Should I get his new book too? Does it have more menu suggestions than his first book?

Also, how do you keep your protein intake down? I think that's my biggest problem as some days I am eating more than 130 grams.

TIA

Hi ladies..

Anyone watch Network Food Star? I was glad Big Daddy won!!! Then the
Design Star....I liked Matt's rooms the best..Anyone have an opinion??

Zilla: You know..maybe people just don't around to reading the "book" so they don't want to come..Ya think? It really sounds like lots of fun/food/entertainment..

When I really can't get to sleep, I take Sleep MD..or melatonin, Buffy. When I sorta can't get to sleep. I just lay in the dark with my eyes open until they feel sleepy. I might have to do the "open eye" method about 6 to 10 times before I don't remember anything.

Curly: Reading the book again is always a good idea.

Sandy: Hot, huh???????????? We are praying for no rain when we take Brett's stuff to Manhattan on Saturday. It doesn't look like in in the forecast.

Shon: How exciting..Thursday is a good day for a birthday, huh? I'm sure your sister is so glad to get this over with. I'm so glad that she stayed in the hospital and glad they didn't "kick" her out.

Asuka: Welcome....130 grams of protein is alot of protein. It's really easy to cut back..especially at home. Most women should take in no more than 90..basically 70-90 grams is a good amount. If you are out a restaurant, just
take home the rest..or leave it on your plate. Menu suggestions are not Barry's strong suit..unless you live in England and like that kind of food.
EFGT is basically the same as his new book, but if you to treat yourself, buy it..I love mine and it is easy to read, etc..

Hugs all around................June found a "Fresh produce" house near us, so we are going to see what she is selling.
