Maybe this thread will help give you an idea of what to eat for the correct ratios. And I agree with Zilla, I wouldn't do CAD with this, but YMMV.

Hungry?
I have been following this way of eating for about 3 days and I can't seem to keep the protein low enough. I always end up with way over 70% protein. Usually about 90grams. I am supposed to be at around 55 grams each day. I have found out that everything has protein in it and boy does it add up!
If I try to stay at that I am so hungry. My fats are around 80% and carbs are about 10%. Any suggestions? Also, I have read that Dr. Groves says to eat until satisfied of meat, fish, poultry, etc. I feel like I'm not doing this right and maybe missing something? Also, I am having a hard time finding his book. Any ideas on that as well would be appreciated. Thanks.Jenny |

If your fats are 80% and carbs are 10% then that only leaves 10% for protein. Are you using ******? 90 grams of protein sounds fine to me. I sometimes even have a little more. I'm 5'7" and weigh 145ish and am mainly just trying to maintain. His book is available on amazon. Don't give up and if you're hungry eat something and don't skimp on the fat to flavor it with.

I am very interested in this WOE. I have low-carbed for well over a year, but I have been more than frustrated as I have not lost any weight for quite a while.
I have been following the EFGT Threads, and now I have ordered Barry Groves' book. I believe in this way of eating for life, but I also want to lose this weight and then maintain. Could some of you post your menus? I think that would be very helpful. I also plug my food into ******, and I have done the LBM calculator, etc., so I am ready with the percentages, etc. Thank you for any help and advice that you can give!

Wow, I'm sooo confused.
I get 45 g of protein for my protein needs (~100 lb LBM), but if I balance that to the correct ratios, I would be eating something like 800 calories a day...that really doesn't appeal to me, and I wouldn't make it through the first day. In order to get my calories into a range where I'm comfortable and I know my appetite will be somewhat controlled, I have to go to 80 grams of protein, which is said to be for the "athletic," which I'm not. I'm quite sedentery, actually. And if I go to 80 grams of protein I can only have 38 grams of carbs to balance the ratios, but it says you should have 50-60 grams a day. If I go that high, then ratios are out of whack. So, I'm totally, totally confused. This plan sounds very interesting, but I can't figure out how to make it work for me.

Elle: Okay...Barry is a "ballpark" kind of guy..really. His whole theory is that too much protein acts like carbs, which is true. So, he doesn't want us to overdose on protein, but
definitely to get adequate protein for muscle repair, etc...etc...So, basically for women our daily protein allotment can be between 50-70ish. It all depends on your muscles and your activities. Taller women can "take in" 80-90ish. However, 60 percent or so of your diet should include healthy fats..Now, that is fat from your protein as well as other fats in your diet. Then just eat a goodly portion of LC veggies and some LC fruit after your meal, if you desire. Everyone is different on their Carb Allotment, of course. Some peeps can lose on 50 carbs a day and some have to take in 30ish. It's an experiment to find out what works for you.......................... PM me if you want.

Thanks, Carolyn. I've let some weight come back on and I don't really want to do Atkins again. I want to eat as many carbs as I can and still lose. I think I will start with about 40 grams (from all sources) and see how I do.

Hey, guys!! This is a fabulous thread! I agree with some that I have had to be very creative to decrease my protein while increasing my fat. One thing I found is Costco's pesto sauce. Olive oil and canola oil based, it packs about 30 grams of fat and about 5 grams protein. I will make a pesto pizza by putting a Momma Lupes tortilla (3 net carbs) in a 400 degree convection oven until it starts to brown, turning once. I put 1/4 cup pesto on top, 2 ounces mozzarella cheese on top of pesto, back in the oven until cheese melts and oh, baby!! I use an olive oil butter and smear it heavy on everything. It does take a lot of thought as the protein does climb when the fat does. But I feel a lot better on this diet than on a "balanced" diet.

WOE: Death to Diets!!

I had to laugh when I read this yesterday on the web. Just look at what they are eating and the conclusions they come too. Oh puhleeze. I only listed two of the menus for space sake but they all look the same.
New research has linked a diet rich in fatty foods to breast cancer. British experts claim women who consume over 90g of fat a day are doubling their chances of developing the disease, compared to women who consume less than 40g of fat a day. Previous research had failed to find an immediate link between breast cancer and high fat intake but using food diaries finally enabled the Medical Research Council to make the connection. Here we look at the fat content of four different daily menus to show just how easily it adds up. Menu 1 Breakfast Danish Pastry (67g): 17.4g Black coffee (220ml): 0.9g Lunch Tomato and basil chicken pasta salad (200g): 28.4g Dinner Spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread: 32g Strawbwerries with double cream: 16g Daily total: 94.7g Menu 2 Breakfast 2 slices of toast with butter: 14g Tea with s/skimmed milk (220ml): 0.6g Snack Angel cake: 6.5g Lunch Tuna and sweetcorn sandwich: 21.4g Banana (150g): 0.5g Dinner Grilled beefburger (100g): 25g Oven chips (130g): 5g Reduced-fat mayonnaise: 8g Chocolate ice-cream (50g): 10.4g Daily total: 90.9g They are eating a high sugar diet here along with fat. Pasta, cake, chips, bread, danish. And fat is the villian???? ![]()

I have not read the posts here and confess to not even reading all of the info on the first posts, but wanted to jump in and say this must be what I'm doing, unknowingly. I have been putting my menus in ****** and have just noticed that for the past month and most days individually, my menus are about 70% fat and 20% protein, 5 or so carbs. I guess I'm doing EFGT huh? I'm going to do some more reading in a bit, but wanted to jump in and say it seems to be working. I have lost ALL cravings and appetite has plummeted. I'm losing weight. Cool!

Hi.............I'm eating the same. I find if I keep the fat high, it really curbs my appetite.
Most people worry way too much about protein. The human body needs about the weight of 10 pennies worth of protein a day. Anything over that and your body (kidneys) have to process it. It doesn't mean we can't eat more but that is realy all our bodies need to operate. Unless someone is literally starving to death, there has never been a known case of protein defenicncy in the United States. Relax...eat more fat and don't worry about the protein. We all get plenty of protein. Things you don't even think about have protein - like spinach. |

I have finally gotten over, completely over my fat phobia!!! I had to cuz I read that book Dr. Richard K. Bernstein wrote because my blood sugar was out of control. Testing my blood sugar constantly, I found just like Bernstein says that too much protein caused my blood sugar to go up. So I had to limit my carbs and my protein....then just eat fat if still hungry. Boy, I wish I would have gotten over my fat phobia a long time ago.

My mom died of gall bladder cancer. She was diabetic and totally addicted to sweets and carbs.
I was a vegan for a long time and when I turned to low carb and eating fatty stuff again my gall bladder went on the rampage. It hadn't been used in so long it forgot what to do!! ![]() Now it is happy with my almost zero carb diet and working fine like it should. |

portion control with permitted fatty foods
Dear all,
I'm new to this site. I have been doing EFGT for four weeks. The first two weeks I lost 3 pounds. I didn't feel hungry and was delighted. Then I slipped a little during a stressful period , still not that hungry so super good during the day but a stressful time and I started to go a little mad with the double cream with fruit in the evenings. My 3 pounds returned with a vengeqnce. The business of unlimited quantities is misleading ...I think the diet will work for me provided I am wise about portion control. Cheese is another weakness - indeed dairy is the problem. How do you ladies self-regulate in this area? Any tips for not going wild with the permitted foods. I do want this to work. many thanks!
