Carolyn, keeping your 139 is awesome, I bet you will see 138 soon! Sounds like having a weekend thread really helped a lot of people.

Sandy-OMG loose clothes, isnt that just the best feeling? Pulling em out, wondering if they will fit, sliding them on, hmmm could it be they are LOOSE? Love that feeling. Hope I get to experience that soon!

Honestly though, I dont know how good I will really be until 4/10, when the last of our company leaves. I am realllllllly looking forward to the visit, its my fav sister, her husband and my niece who is close to my boys.

Summer-could be retaining some water from all the work in the yard, esp if it is hot where you are! Dont worry, the scale will move!

Tuscan-a manicure sounds like HEAVEN. Been thinking i need ot leave the bosy with DH and slip out for a treat like that....

Lil Miss - hope things are better for you today!

Sandy I'm wanting to get back INTO clothes I bought last year!! That is such a good feeling when clothes get too big. I really am not a big shopper myself. I only shop when I absolutely HAVE to. I enjoy it a LOT more when I'm skinny though!!

MK enjoy your manicure. I never get those!! My nails are paper thin so I just cut them all off!! On the h0-word - I actually spelled out wh*** in my post and it got edited! I shoulda put in h0 the first time!

Summer - that devil alcohol!! That's what's been keeping me from losing this last month - I'm SURE of it.

Carolyn have a good day and good job on the 139!

I'm down lb this morning!

I gotta look for the Crack Slaw recipe. I'll post when I find it. I am so anxious to try it!! It would be great to cook up a huge batch and have it for lunch during the week. Ooh I'll have to create a new food in Fitday for it though.

Here's the Crack Slaw recipe from SAGlaze:

Quote:
1.5 lbs meatloaf mix (ground beef, veal & pork)
1.5 lbs ground beef (I used 20% lean)
1 bag broccoli slaw
1 bag angel hair coleslaw
1 bunch green onions chopped (green part only)
8 cloves of garlic diced (I wanted chunks bigger then minced)
3 tbls toasted sesame oil
3 tbls salted butter
3 tbls soy sauce
2 tsp crushed red pepper
1 tbls chinese chili sauce
1 tbls sesame seeds
2 tsp ginger (I have some in a tube that's fresh and a very smooth consistency....fresh grated would be fine)
2 packets Splenda
2 tsp rice wine vinegar

First I browned the meats in a tbls of sesame oil & lightly salted it with sea salt, then drained it and set it aside.

In a wok, I added 2 tbls sesame oil, the broccoli slaw and the garlic. I stir fried this (on medium high heat) for about 5 minutes, then added the angel hair coleslaw, half the sesame seeds, rice wine vinegar, green onions and half the soy sauce. I stir fried this for an additional 5 minutes.

Then I added the ginger, splenda, half the chili sauce, and crushed red pepper. I gave this a good stir, then added the cooked meat on top along with the other half of the sesame seeds, soy sauce, and chili sauce. I cooked it for about 10 more minutes to heat the meat and give it a chance to absorb the flavors. With only about 2 or 3 minutes left, I cut the butter into thin slices and added it to the mixture.

I served this with soy sauce and chili sauce as condiments.

I really want to embrace this plan but I find I'm having carb fear (at first I mistyped that it and read " I'm having crab fear). Coming from Atkins induction should I add carbs (or crabs) back slowly or is it okay to dive right in there?

Zana I would add SLOWLY and instead of going up to 60 stay around 30 or 40. If you've been eating 300 or more then you'll see great results with going down to 60, but going UP to 60 quickly will bring on cravings and water weight. I think it's easier to just ease into it a little at a time.

Hi gang..

Summer: Hey..just keeping drinking water until your urine is clear..that's my advice.. Water weight is so normal..Dr.A. said that you can be up 7 pounds with water weight..

A few years ago I was 128 after doing Lean for Life..(less fat)..Well, those pants don't fit me at 139!!!! But, my size 10 ones do..and look okay..

Zan: Veggies are your best friend..but do them slowly..The thing about veggies is that they FILL you up so you don't eat that much protein..It's all about bulk..sometimes.

Lisa: Get yourself a manicure..It will do wonders for your nails..I started going every other week and my nails are NOT long, but they are much sturdier..I don't do a "color"..just clear..

Lilmiss: It IS hard with company..My old friend is coming for 2 weeks in April.
Luckily she doesn't eat carbs as she is a Type II..When she stays with me,
we eat Atkins and she usually loses about 8 pounds.. I usually gain a few pounds, but she weighs more than me..and can eat more.

Sandy: You are going to have to go shopping, girl!!

DH was asking me about EFGT since we will begin TOGETHER on 4/10. I have a question, it is 60 carbs right? Are we supposed to aim that they mostly come from GREEN vegs at first? Or can I mix it up as long as it is 60? I know to avoid the starchy vegs and fruits. WHat would you guys recommend?

The nice thing about eating 60 carbs or so is that when you veer off plan, which does happen to the best of us, you dont gain oodles of weight, dontcha think? When I did 20 carbs for...2 years, if I looked at a pear I gained water weight, now I have been a little off plan with MIL and I am "only" 2 lbs above my low, which was bouncing around a bit anyway so I feel good like when I get serious again I will be able to see the scale go down.

Have a nice day everyone!

Woohoooo!! I'm happy to report that I'm down to 139.5 this a.m. Below goal again!! I think my body likes the addition of the ELOO!

Lil Miss,
I've been doing EFGT since Sept. sometime and I do not totally keep all my carbs from veggies and fruit. I have starchy carbs occasionally. Not daily, but a couple times a week at least. I've lost consistently doing this. Not fast by any means, but consistent without feeling hugely deprived. I also don't watch my calories that much either. I was very close to goal when I started, I do work out at least 3x a week lifting weights and walking and I'm now at goal but continue to eat this way b/c I love it and it's a great WOE and WOL. I never aimed for any total grams of any of the nutrients; I just worried about the %s and it worked. Do you have the e-book from Barry? It's very good and explains everything much better than I can. I'm sure Carolyn will pop in and share too. She's the expert.

Has anyone read "Eat Fat Lose Fat" by Mary Enig and Sally Fallon(pres. of Weston Price Foundation)? It seems to my limited understanding of Barry's EFGT to be similar but with lots of coconut oil thrown in. I am incorporating some of the principles of the diet into EFGT and I'm having good results. I'm still keeping my carbs low, maybe around 20-30, but my fat has definitely increased to about 65% of my diet and my protein has decreased slightly. I am still losing weight. The "Eat Fat Lose Fat" team recommends 3 1/2 tbsp of coconut oil daily, one before each meal. I am amazed. Even now close to goal, I have lost weight.

Good morning all...

Well we got home at 8:30pm after DD'd softball game and I decided I was tired and didnt want the wine...I will save it for the weekend.

I am 156.5, a full 2 pounds over siggy but TOM is coming any minute so I am not going to stress about it.I took a sneak peek at some measurements and even though I am slightly up , most of my measurents are DOWN well except my waist and I blame that on TOM. I will take Carolyns advice though and drink up the water.
I just realized the past 3 days I have been AWFUL about getting any water in, I have been busy and gone from home and while gardening I just didnt want to be bothered with having to stop and go potty!

Terrible time to skimp on water right before TOM...so today I drink a lot of the good stuff.

Woohoo, tomorrow is FRIDAY!

Hi gang,

We have storms coming our way..right, Sandy? This is spring in the midwest..

Lil: Well, Barry says that we can go up to 60 carbs and still be on the verge of ketosis (fat burning)..SO focus on the LC veggies and maybe some LC fruit.. Just be sure to keep track..Some folks will have ONE piece of toast (if they must)..However, if they gain, they should stop. I'm sure your DH will find that 60 will work for him..I don't think these are NET carbs..Count the whole carb including the fiber.

Sandy: You are amazing..That is fabulous that you are below goal..It's amazing how the SLD works, isn't it??

Espresso: That is fabulous..Fat does help us lose weight..I don't know if I have that book..(I have so many diet books..LOLO). We are happy for you..

Summer: You will do fine once your TOM leaves..and good for your measurements going down..Drinking water is crucial to losing weight..It flushes out the fat..so to speak..

Lisa: Hope you are having a good day..

I'm very slowly going down.. .2 pound a day..Down to 139.2..but better than going up, I guess...We will definitely have to have a weekend thread again..right??

Pink: Hi..hope you are doing well..

Hello Everyone,

Just checking in. Got back from camping/fishing trip yesterday. It was great to get away. Caught a bunch of fish, so hubby was happy. Weighed in yesterday and was down 2 pounds for the week. Met with friends for a fish fry-- I know -- I took only 2 small filets and had a spoonful of baked beans and spoonful of coleslaw, 1 hushpuppy and a small piece of birthday cake. The cravings didn't come back and was able to get right back on track and still lost 2 pounds. The heat may have had something to do with not having much of an appetite. Was almost 80 degrees in March What's it gonna be like in June and July?

Hope everyone had a good week!

First, to PinkPetals -- I am truly sorry about your niece. We have had a lot of substance abuse issues in my extended family, so I sympathize with how you're feeling right now. Oddly enough, I was chatting with a friend about how it seems that in her family and mine, even those of us who don't use anything illicit or soothe nerves with a drink, still have "issues" with using unhealthy coping tools. I mean, no, I don't get drunk when I'm upset -- but I did manage to get pretty fat by using food as a comfort for stress and pain.

And on a complete different note...

Any good on-line sources that any of you particularly like for the EFGT plan? I can do a search, of course -- just wondering if you have a favorite!

I started a very high fat thing yesterday. Went all day on plan and even went to the gym. I started this deal already in ketosis, but strips were pale. But the end of the day they were quite dark and I had that sort of rubber-legged feeling all day from the big change. Much better energy level today!!

Yesterday's weight upon waking was 167, and today was 165.5. I'm certain it is nearly all water to be so quick.

I did a made-up recipe last night for dinner and it was so good! I sauteed my little tiny chicken piece in CO. I took 1/2 block of cream cheese, softened it, added 1/2 cup coconut cream and 1/2 cup natural peanut butter, and a dash of salt. Poured a generous amount of that over the chicken. It was DIVINE! I have the rest of the sauce waiting for me for lunch today.

Does it matter if your ketosis strips are dark or pale? I thought it was like being a little bit pregnant, you were in Ketosis or you weren't and the color didn't really matter. Is that wrong?

Lil Miss I like the higher carbs for the same reason - less fluctuation in weight!! Very cool that your DH is doing it with you!

Sandy you rock!! I so want to weigh what you weigh!!

Espresso I think I read that book by Enig and Fallon. I know I read Enig's "Fat" book (the technical one) and the Coconut Diet book. I couldn't incorporate a lot of the recommendations (the coconut milk drink, kefir, raw dairy products, and fermented grains) but I think they have the right idea! I use coconut oil whenever I can.

Summer after I read that you bought wine I almost stopped yesterday to get me some!!! Glad now that I didn't. I'm gonna try to go all weekend (except happy hour on Friday) with no alcohol.

Carolyn it's snowing here. But thank goodness it's not sticking much on the streets!! We've had a weird March this year with this being our first snow. All our snow came in winter for a change. I took DS to get his driver's permit this morning too - but he didn't have to drive for that, thank goodness.

Dixie great job on losing 2 lbs!! Especially while away from home. I do love fried fish and hush puppies!!

Yellowbrix there's a website for EFGT - secondopinions . com that's pretty good although not as easy to navigate. Also, I like the Weston Price Foundation website for the articles. That sauce sounds yummy!!

Zana the strips show ketones from dietary fat and body fat so you have no way of knowing how much of each the strips are reporting. So, I think any color is good - JMO.

Weight is the same for me this morning, but my tummy feels less poochy. I was worried that it felt too bloated, but then realized I went a few days without "going". That rarely happens to me but after the 'runs' on Sunday it's to be expected.

Glad to see everyone here today!!!
Later,
Lisa

Hi all,
I've had a crazy day too. I actually slept in a tiny bit then after breakfast decided to go get my hair cut. After I got there my roots looked so bad under their lighting (I'm sure they have special lights for that very thing, lol) I asked him if he could retouch me too. So that added time to that. Then I went by the mall to check on a pair of shoes I've been wanting. When I left there it was raining so I turned on my wipers and the driver's side one flew clear over to the driver's side and flipped off the windshield!! Freaked me out!! Plus I couldn't see! I felt my way home, lol, called the mechanic, they said it was probably a loose nut (yeah me, lol) so I was able to get the hood raised checked the nut, seemed tight to me so I thought great, I'm going to have to take it in, grrrrr. It quit raining so I chanced it and took it in. It was a loose nut (me again) they tightened in less than a minute with a special tool, didn't charge me anything and off I went. I stopped by another mall to find those shoes I was looking for. They didn't have them either but I found 2 other pairs at a store that's going out of business. It was only $4.34 for both pairs!!! My bargain of the year so far I think. So now I'm pooped out and I still have to fix dinner and I should do some laundry but I'm not.

On the oil, yes I think the EVOO would have too much flavor. The kind I'm using has a tiny bit of taste but it seems to be working so I'm going to keep using it for now. I take 3 doses a day, 1 T each. One early morning. One 1 hour before lunch and one late afternoon at least one hour before dinner. I never know what time we're eating, but I know it's not before 5 so I take it about 4. I haven't taken any after dinner so far and haven't felt the need. I feel like I'm on a baby feeding schedule. The one thing I miss the most is my SF mints. It seems like I sure don't have many times through the day that I can have them or any flavored drinks either. Maybe that's part of the trick. You're always in a waiting period or eating, lol.

Hi ladies...

Well, Sandy I think YOU got the rain..I thought we were supposed to get it and I cancelled my minlaw's dr. appointment until Monday as I didn't want to drive 90 miles in the rain..Hey, Beth said that her dh Shawn is coming to KCity with his boss for a meeting at The Private Bank there..He works for the one in Chicago.. They would LOVE to move to KCity..but I think this is good that Shawn is getting to check it out in case a transfer came up..

I know what you mean about having SF mints in between meals..You gotta time it right.. Glad you are doing so well..I'm having my SW now..no hungry munchies this afternoon..That is a miracle.. And what bargains!!!

Mary Kay: What a big day you had..I DID clean out my fridge..full of salad dressing bottles that I bought who knows when. It looks alot better..

Zan: Lisa is right on the ketone stuff..However, Barry says that if we are too dark, then we are wasting that fat we are eating..and it's going down the drain..So, he likes it when we are slightly pink..

Debbie: You are really down South then..

Yellow: Your recipe sounds fine..It is really a simple plan..just watch the protein..which is Barry's mantra...

Have a nice dinner everyone..We are having beef from the crockpot and cheesey broccoli..

I made some Almond Streusel Muffins from the Recipe Bulletin Board..very Barry friendly..

Carolyn - if you all keep having such good successes, I may have to try SLD . . .

I've picked up DS14, been to the library, Walgreens, ordered from Netrition and now need to vacuum . . . I don't want to!

MK: Vacuuming is my least favorite activity..I have a Roomba..and she does pretty well when I feeling lazy..but it doesn't really replace a real vacuum..

We would love to have you at the SDL..place..I'm doing the Sugar Water..the rest of the gals are doing the Oil..I can't believe that I'm doing the sugar..however, I spread it out during the day..and I'm still in ketosis in the a.m...

Sandy that woulda freaked me out for sure!! Glad you're safe.

Where is pink??

Had my workout today but I felt so sluggish! I remembered that I forgot my supplements this morning. Wonder if that's it??

I think I may be able to skip dinner tonight. DH is making spaghetti for him and DS so I wouldn't be eating that anyway. Just gonna go home and take my vitamins and drink some hot tea maybe!!

Have a good evening all.

I'm trying to make Oriental Glazed Chicken wings for dinner.

Think I can substitute 1/ cup of Davinci's Simple Syrup for the 1/2 cup of honey in the recipe?

Going to check the SLD thread now . . . or soon!

Nope MK I don't think so. Although last night my legs ached and kept me awake for awhile and my throat was raspy. But this morning all was well. Thanks for the hug.

If the recipe is "glazed" then the honey is gonna provide the glaze texture and feel. You may need something else to thicken it since Davinci's is like water!!
