Hi guys..

Wow, Lisa..pecans dipped in butter sounds wonderful to me..WL sounds great!!!

Congrats on your loss, Summer..glad you are better..

MK: I called Brett at college at 3:00 and he was talking to his advisor..then
had to pack..so hopefully, he will be home before dark (200 miles of driving)

Okay..this is my NEW plan..Call me silly...but basically EFGT eating..BUT,
I'm taking Extra Light Olive Oil with a bit of water one hour after eating..It's called the Shangri-La Diet..It would be Barry friendly..You take in 2-3 Tbs. of unflavored oils (could do unflavored coconut oil) not around food..an hour
before or after..and it is supposed to help you lose weight..It DOES increase
your fat intake..but because it's not around any flavors, it should help your
metabolism..We'll see..If I dip into the 138's, I'll know that this works..
There is a website for those who are interested..it's under Seth Roberts..

I'm hoping this controls my 4:00 starving time..which makes me eat too much food..then I eat dinner..bad Carolyn...

Hugs to you alllllllllllllllllllll...

Hi guys!

I hope all is well for everyone

Shangri-La Diet... I will have to make some google time, I've never heard of it,but I am excited to see how is goes for you Carolyn

So, a question; on the nutrition label of pork rinds it's says "insignicant source of protein" which is learned is because its kind of liek the protein in gelatin-- it's been prepared in a way that makes indegestible. Personally, as gross as pork rinds are, I eat them because they are an easy afternoon snack for me as they are at the convience store by work where I buy my diet dr. pepper each day and when I don't think about what they are they tast good to me. I don't count the protein in them, what do you guys think?

Ok, night ladies

I wouldn't worry about the protein in the porkrinds because the fat overtakes it...It is the perfect Barry food..

I'll keep you posted on my oil/water plan..Although...I did overcome my 4:00
starving..time in which I consume quite a bit of food..then eat dinner..Not a good thing..So I took in 1 Tbs. of Extra Light O O with some water at 3:00 and actually made it through until 6:30 without dying of starvation..

Night ladies.

Hi..Happy St. Patty's Day to you all!!!

Well..this is like a broken record, but I'm finally down to 139.0..(where I started last fall)..However, I have a new game plan with my Tbs. of oil in some water
an hour or more after a meal..I did this twice yesterday..once around 11 a.m. and once around 3:00..with no coffee or anything with flavor for an hour each side of this..It really curbs your appetite and the amount of protein you feel like eating..So, I'm anxious to see how next week is..I'm hoping to get down to 138 by next Saturday..(during Spring Break!!!)..

A big hug and hi to all of our Barry girls..

Carolyn - that is really interesting! Let me know what happens!!
Did Brett make it home before dark? 200 miles! Wow! DD20 lives about . . . .oh . . . a mile away! We tease her about how hard it is and how exhausted we are when we have to pick her up!

DD23 went to school about 120 miles away, DS17 will be about 260 miles!
That will be so much harder!

Pink - I agree with Carolyn! I think pork rinds are just fat!

Protein Requirement

Hi...peeking out from lurkdom...how do you calculate protein requirement again? I'm 189 now and my ideal weight is probably about 150 (I'm tall and big boned...big nordic lady).

Thanks

Hi ladies..

Brett made it home at 9:00 last night..He went to get his "quarterly" haircut this morning..

Lynn: Welcome, welcome..K: What is your lean body weight? Let's say it is
115..K? Then multiply that by .6 and you would have the amount of protein that your body needs..66 grams a day..You might be able to go up to 75..everyone is so different on this one..The key is not to overdo..and spreading it out throughout the day is always a good thing..

I am so intrigued by EFGT. My friend Elainie, who turned me on to coconut oil about five years ago, always said if you want to lose weight, eat fat (she is a natural foods chef). I know that when I eat more fat I lose more weight. Anyway, I am following these threads with interest. I am trying not to tweak anything until I've been doing this for a solid month, though.

Is this what happens when you have a boy!

I know it's hard now to get him to cut his hair! And my DS had the mustache/goatee thing going on last summer!

Oh great!

At least during swim season he'll have to shave! The hair doesn't matter so much since he wears a cap.

Are you sill feeling full with the oil?

Hi,

Basically, it's all about getting enough protein..and not too much. You need to figure this out by taking your lean body weight..which for you, might be 115 pounds and then multiply it by .6..so that would give you 66-67 grams of protein a day. Dr. Barry Groves is the author of this plan and he said that we should focus on veggies/lowcarb fruit, but get our energy from fat..fatty meats and dairy product..

Your percentages should be 10 percent carbs/ 20-25 percent protein/60-70 percent fat..Basically..it's a good idea to do fitday..

Welcome, Cindy and Josi..

MK:Yes, I love it that your son has to shave for swim team..Brett had to shave when he worked at Cessna this summer..

I was down to 138.2 this morning..I'm thinking my 3 Tbs. of Extra Light Olive Oil is helping..but today was the Chinese buffet after church..I didn't eat that much, though..

Hi to Sandy, Pink, Shelley, and whoever else peeks in today..

looks a lot like Atkins, doesn't it? does it still work for those who didn't do that well on Atkins due to high amounts of fats?

Sandy: Try this..make sure you use Extra Light Olive Oil..and only water one hour before and one hour after the taking of your oil..Some folks do an early
morning dose..and one at night. I'm still experimenting, myself..I just talked to Miss Beth and she is getting her 4th quarter sales award downtown Chicago tomorrow..So we are proud of her..I'll tell her about this after I have done it
successfully for a week or so..

How many times a day do you take the oil. Before and after a meal? And do you use sugar at all in it? I really didn't have time to read all the stuff on that site but just enough to really confuse me. That doesn't seem to take much lately, lol. Tell Beth congrats from me. That's great!

Hi gals..

Got back from our big overnight basketball game..and it's rainy.. We need it..

So..the deal on the Shangri-La Diet is that you can take the oil anytime..as long as it's within a one hour each side of it with absolutely NO FLAVOR..not even toothpaste or gum. I think that it is the cumulative effect of the oil..it takes a while to kick up and get "oiled up"..so to speak.

Some people on the SLD are NOT LCers and do use a combo of sugar/oil/water to make the oil go down..They might use a tsp. or a Tbs...
But the rule is if you have just 20 pounds to lose, you might do the 2 Tbs. a day of the oil..but if you have more, you might do more..So, 2 Tbs. would be 200 calories..The goals is from 100-400 calories a day of the sugar/water or oil/water. If you do the sugar water, you have to drink it very slowly over 30 minutes so it doesn't cause an insulin problem. One Tbs. of sugar is 12 carbs and has 48 calories..

This is a very Barry friendly plan..the oil is anyway..

So..we are starting a Shangri-La Diet thread here in the Other Plan place..Several are interested in this..So, for those of you who want to post
twice that would be great..I think it will be started tomorrow..

I am going to email our Barry if this is successful plan for me..So far, it has been..

I had to laugh because Dr. Seth Roberts talks about bland foods and how it is
easy to lose on them..cuz he lost a bunch of weight by eating sushi...Some of the English folks DO eat pretty bland stuff..so Barry might have an edge there..LOLOL..

Today I had a big breakie at Cracker Barrel and then we drove home (coffee on the way), so I had 1 1/2 Tbs. of grapeseed oil with water at 2:00 and will
eat something after 3:00..I might do my oil tonight before bed..or one hour
after dinner..I don't really think it matters that much..

Actually, not that far-fetched! I've heard if you eat a lot of the same thing you get bored and quit eating! It's when you have so many choices that it gets hard!
