Would you take a FREE A1C test at this point?

A local pharmacy offers free A1C tests, that they claim are 99% percent accurate. My A1C was very high 5 weeks ago. I have been 100% cheat free in the last 4 weeks ( since starting LC ). And my blood sugar readings are way down, for sure.

Any reason not to take a FREE test now?

Four weeks isn't long enough for much of a change, from what I understand. I think three months is the minimum length of time, but six months is even better.

the numbers won't mean anything. A1c measures the telltale signs of your average blood glucose for the last 3-4 months or so - the lifespan of your blood cells. Until you have a whole set of blood cells that were made after you went low carb, the result can't be indicative at all.

Even if it's free, the number is totally useless to you, other than if it's a little less you can feel like you're getting somewhere. It will be likely way higher than your meter average will tell you, because 2/3 of the reading will be old news mixed in with new news.

My last DR told me he would recommend A1C every 2 months if it wern't for the cost. My understanding was each cell is replaced in 3 months, but not all at the same time, He felt if someone were changing diet etc it would show even after a few weeks. But no not as accuret as 3 months

yeah. I would take it. then take the difference between the two readings, double it, and see what that would be. I think that would be pretty accurate for forecasting what your number would be in 3 months if you continue "being good."

there is no reason to wait more than 3 months. the cells apparently die that fast.

I concur. Have it checked. Everything I've heard and read said it measures the last 2-3 months.
