Exercise and antioxidents

Here is a link to an article saying that if you are exercising to reduse insulin
resistance it is far better NOT to take vitamin E and C .

Antioxidants prevent health-promoting effects of physical exercise in humans

That is very interesting and DH has been told most of his life to avoid high doses of vitC as it will make it harder for him to lower his bs when it is high. BUT he always drinks an emergenc when it gets over 300 (which happens a lot) Compared to NOT drinking the emergenC, his BS comes down faster with it, over a glass of plain water.

I read and understood what I could in the article. And basically they were trying to say that in healthy adult men, vitC offsets the increase that exercise usually gives to insulin sensitivity. I wish they would do these studies ON people with type 1 and type 2.

DH has greatly increased his exercise in the last three month , which has made him more sensitive to insulin ( we had to have his insulin pump adjusted), and resulted in less high bs.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think that Dr. Bernstein says not to take more than 500 mg of vit.C. I'm in my chair with foot up (foot surgery) so can't get to his book to look it up myself. :)

I don't know. We don't get the book until Friday. Ouch on the foot surgery!

One positive thing with the foot surgery is that it's keeping me out of the kitchen! I've learned alot from Dr. Bernsteins book, also from "Blood Sugar 101", by Jenny Ruhl. Excellant information.

You are correct about the VitC. Dr. B mentions that it can cause lower than actual blood sugar readings with a meter :( So now I wonder if that is why when he drinks an emergenC, it appears that his bs came down faster than not.

Also he mentioned a study done in europe (i think) that had similar results with people who were type2. I'm still on information overload from reading the book yesterday :D

Another fantastic book full of easy to understand info, is "The Diabetes Miracle" by Diane Kress. I'm only into it by 6 chapters but am thoroughly enjoying it. :)
