A1C!

After 8 weeks of low carbing, my A1C dropped from an 8.0 to a 6.4. I actually think my BS are in the normal range now, because that is based on a 12-week average. Yay! I know I have to do low carb for life, but this takes such a worry off of me knowing that I can control it, at least for a while, with diet and exercise.

Wow, that's very impressive! I'm a big believer in the healing power of low-carb. I hope that you will be able to control it with diet and exercise for many, many years to come!

Thanks. I am really happy with that drop in just two months. The chart is very helpful. I am going to copy and save so I have it for reference.

Just think what it's going to be in another 4-6 months! I was actually looking for a different chart that wasn't a long column but I couldn't find it. Sorry for the length of it.

If you do a web search for Printable Diabetes Chart, it should be the first on on the list.

That's a great improvement!

My starting A1C was 12.2%, and at last check it was 5.0%. :) I am LC, but also on Metformin. Keep up the great work!!

LoriWants2Lose 12-09-2012 08:13 PM

Wow, Vilya! That is amazing. Gives me a lot of hope and motivation to stick with it. I go see my doc tomorrow to weigh in and just check-in. He wants to keep me off meds as long as possible. I'm only 43, so I may need to go on them at some point in my life, but the longer I can control with diet, the happier I will be. I hate taking any type of medication, but the Metformin drug does seem to be a very good one, so when or if the time comes I won't be scared to take it.

Congratulations!!!! I'm another piece of evidence that low carb works! My A1C was 10.7, and in 3 months, it dropped to 5.8. Of course, I kept up with every bite, etc, that I ate or drank. I stopped doing a food diary and my BG levels rose some (never higher than 148) so I am keeping a food diary again.

Keep up the good work! So proud of you! Dianne

Congratulations!

That's very encouraging news! :jumpjoy:

I'm hoping for similar results in a couple of months. Congrats!!

And the chart provided is extremely helpful as well...Thank you!

T-bird, hope you get good results. Thanks, everyone, I appreciate all the encouragement. Trying to do better about exercise, but my weight is still dropping slowly. Doctor is fine with me doing low-carb, but worried I might be losing too fast because he doesn't want to struggle and possibly regain. I just smiled at him. My loss has slowed a lot now anyway. Those first too weeks upped my weekly average. I lose about 1 or 2 pounds a week, which is what he recommended and I'm fairly happy with that rate.

Congratulations! That is fantastic! I haven't gone to get checked yet since I started DM. My A1C was 12 when I found out I was diabetic last July/August. I cut out most carbs at that time because I was very scared. 2 Months later it was 8, two more months it was 6. I started DM 12/26/13, I'm assuming it is lower now, just need to get in. You guys are doing fantastic, do you know how your cholesterol is doing? I was 43 when diagnosed as well, was on metformin for awhile, my doctor let me go off of that, I don't like meds either. I have a lot of hope now that we can control this with diet and exercise, hopefully for many years. :)
