Victoza

I got a prescription for this today because after I eat dinner, I am still hungry and it's driving me crazy! I eat plenty but it's never enough from dinner until bedtime.

I usually white knuckle through, but who wants to do that all of the time? Not me. I am going to give myself the injection about an hour before dinner and pray that it does the trick.

Anybody else taking this?

I believe Jenny at BloodSugar101 doesn't like this drug. you should check out what she says--she is very knowledgable about what works best. good luck!

Thanks for the heads up! I actually picked this one because Dr. Bernstein recommends it as his first choice. I didn't take it yesterday because the day before I got sick from it.

Please do check out Jenny's site. I just took a peek and found an article on her blog talking about the side effects of Victoza, which can include thyroid cancers and acute renal failure, even in people with no underlying kidney disease.

I went and read those articles. Interesting. What's funny is that Dr. Bernstein uses Victoza over the other drugs in this class. Hummm..

It may be a mute point because the one time I injected it, I had severe nausea all night long and in to the next day. I am going to try it one more time. I spent a ton of money on it. I probably won't buy anymore though.

Is Victoza anything like Byetta. Inject an hour before you eat. I was on Byetta but I had the opposite. I was never hungry. One of the side effects is nausea and can last for some time.

Most people had more nausea on Byetta, but I didn't even try to take anymore after that first time. My BS dropped too low because I couldn't eat. Victoza is like Byetta.

I used Victoza for about 2 years and quit about 6 months ago. It's pretty effective at controlling insulin spikes and ensuing hunger.
I had no serious side effects except weight loss and a little nausea initially.
Were you prescribed this med?
What dose did you start with?
Did you dr. actually say to inject it an hour before eating? Mine said to inject it at night, and my sister, who's an endocrinologist, tells her patients to do it in the morning. It takes effect over a 24 hour period and isn't intended to just help you eat less at a single meal.
I quit taking it because I had had pre-diabetes probably related to intense stress and now that stress has lessened my symptoms are just as easily controlled through diet as through medication. But it really helped me when I needed it - I had been gaining 5 lbs and month and had that uncontrollable hunger thing happening, too, and it stopped all of that and helped me lose the 15 I'd gained because of excess insulin.
