No Carbs Please..

I went off plan yesterday and I couldn't believe how my BG spiked up. I think I was in denial about how high my BG's have probably been for quite some time now.

I didn't really start checking my levels until I started LCing. I ate about one cup of potato salad, then for dinner, I had a bowl of pinto beans and a big bowl of fresh strawberries.

Two hours later, my BG was 143. I was so upset I hope I can repair all of the damage that I have done to my body. If I decide to eat strawberries again, I will only eat a very small amount, and I certainly won't have more carbs on top of it.

Carb overloads, binges, etc., all obstacles to succumb. Just jump back on board with your regimen. You'll all do fine.

Yep, just get back on track and move on. We've all been there! Shortly after diagnosis, I went a little crazy and ate SIX egg rolls one afternoon. My BG, which had come down nicely, shot up to over 200. That was just the slap in the face I needed to remind me that I just cannot eat that way anymore. Sometimes we need the hard reminders.

I always had a difficult time controlling my blood sugar levels even on low carb. It was frustrating because, despite low carb, my insulin needs were increasing. Then I got a hold of Dr. Bernsteins "Diabetes Solution" and he recommends no fruit at all and only green vegie carbs for diabetics who want greater control of their blood sugars. So I thought what the heck, let's try it.

In the last 6 months I've dropped about 50 lbs (when before I battled with the same 20 pounds *and* high BG levels), took my A1C down to 5, am off all my medication and have reversed my insulin resistance.

When I was in Florida in March, during strawberry season, I just couldn't resist and had about 6 yummy strawberries...and watched my BG skyrocket to close to 200. Lesson learned...no fruit.

Dark green veggies and protein sources have been my primary food sources for quite some time now, all thanks to Dr. Bernstein. Fruits, especially the juicy sweeter varieties will spike BS quickly.

What I will "indulge" in is black and blue berries when in season, in very limited quantities consumed along with protein. This seems to mitigate the levels over time and minimizes the spikes.

Thanks for that advice. I will definitely try that next time instead of a big bowl of strawberries!

That's exactly how I felt. I can't imagine what my BS were before I started LCing. I am still in shock that my numbers are still high after this WOE for six weeks. I have started taking Lantus at night to help with the high number in the AM.

I do not want to be on insulin but I can't get that morning sugar down. I am day 5 of LC. The lowest it has been is 153. Making me crazy.

I know how you feel, but I'm so glad that I read Dr. Berstein's book. It made me to not be afraid to do a shot. You don't want to burn out your pancreas, and insulin injections are the perfect way to help your pancreas out. You want your pancreas to have functioning beta cells for when there is a cure

The injections are virtually painless.
