Fish Oil / Grape Seed & Resveratrol blood sugar connection?

Just posted this on playground as well but thought this page makes sense too.

Has another here experienced an unfavorable (ie increase) in their blood sugar level as they increased their consumption of fish oil?

My morning sugars have been increasing even though I'm now on metformin ans while I'm grasping at straws now I'm looking at my supplements because I REALLY don't think it's my diet.

I recently doubled my intake of fish oil and grape seed & resveratrol. First I thought maybe it was the grape seed & resveratrol because of "grape" but everything on the beloved internet that I could find indicated if it had any effect on blood sugar it would lower it not raise it. When I checked fish oil the results were mixed. Some said no effect some said lower and the ones that said raise said minimal.

Has anyone here had any experience with this?

Interesting...

I have been having higher numbers in the AM since starting fish oil. I never in a million years would have guessed that it was the culprit.

I am going to hold off on it for a couple of days and see if my numbers come down.

I can't say for sure that it actually IS the culprit, but my numbers are not making sense to me. I briefly wondered if it could be one of my supplements, but then I dismissed it. Thanks for sharing!

it gets stranger still

googling supplements and glucose brought me to a page where someone commented that while some particular supplement raised their glucose it did NOT raise their A1c.

Now that makes ABSOLUTELY NO sense to me.

This is what makes me crazy
If my supplements are raising my glucose and THAT's why I'm on meds, then I think it makes more sense to drop the supplements.

I'm definately going back to what might be the one dr I truly trust and get his take on this. Especially since he is pro supplements I'm hoping he'll know more about this sort of thing than the dr. I've been seeing. Plus this dr actually likes getting people free from meds and isn't a metformin pusher.

Off course the "down side" is the diet he does push is a misery low carb/low fat and low calorie BUT my 15 dd is willing to try it with me!

And I course I feel like a "failure" going back to him after so many years and gaining back around 60 lbs that I got rid of way back when.

Blech

Interesting indeed....

Please keep me posted if you learn anything else. I would love to hear what your doctor has to say about it.

Unless there's a hidden sugar in your fish oil, I can't think of any way it would raise your BG. How much higher are your numbers? A lot?

Very strange...

I dropped mine for two days and haven't seen any changes so I am going back to taking mine.
I think that my problem is sugar alcohols. I can't seem to be able to totally cut them out without a little despair

shmabby: Try reading "The Science of Low Carbohydrate Eating".... I found it really beneficial in understanding WHY lowcarb eating works to reverse...not cure....diabetes. It's written by two researchers. Low carb plus low fat plus low cal DOES sound like MISERY! I don't even know how you could possibly do it. Excessive carbs on a broken metabolism are the cause of diabetes, so it stands to reason that cutting carbs is the way to heal. Best wishes!!
