Insulin dumping

I had some lab tests a couple of weeks ago. I found out I have high blood insulin that the doctor explained is making my testosterone level go to high for a woman. By some weird chance the doctor checked the wrong box on the lab form for an a1c test so I don't have those results for another 2 weeks. Being a compliant very low carber for 4+ years how could I have high insulin? The doctor is convinced I have out of control blood glucose but I have never seen a reading over 136 even at one hour post meal. I started metformin and niaspan for a slightly elevated cholesterol. Does anyone know of any info on this problem or experienced this problem. I could really use some good info. Thank you for any help with this problem.

My doctor has never tested for fasting insulin levels so I don't really have any experience with this.

On Jenny Ruhl's website I happened across this in some comments on insulin "120 mg/dl post meal appears to be normal and the threshold at which most people secrete a big burst of insulin"

I googled high blood insulin and the Mayo Clinic website popped up comments about insulin resistance plus some other info. You might want to check that out.

The metformin should help the insulin resistance. I'm on extended release (usually marked ER or XR) and haven't had any problems tolerating it.

I hope you find some answers

Thanks! I will check them both out. I haven't found out very much info on high insulin doing low carb after my searches. Everyone is so much more informed here than I, thanks again.

Sis, we all – yep, including you! – have our own life experiences and knowledge base that others haven't experienced. Before you know it you'll find a topic or question on here about which you know more than even the veterans, and sooner than you think you'll be imparting your new and old wisdom on the noobs that come after you!

edited to add: FYI, world, "noobs" means newbies/newcomers, it is not a derogatory reference to the part of the female anatomy it rhymes with!!

Lol! I try to impart my personal experiences to help others after me. Sometimes I think there is some secret to searching for things on the internet though.

Googlefu happens to be one of my stronger points, Sis, so feel free to ask me any time, in the forums or PM if you'd rather – I'll hunt it down and PM you some links from various sources. (my 72 year old mom won't even touch a computer; she calls me and I bring her the stack of printouts when I take her shopping and errands each week).
