Help!
Hello there!
I'm a type 2 diabetic, had a baby 4 months ago & restarted LC I'm eating 20-30 carbs a day. It's been a week now. Here's my problem, I'm not seeing lower blood glucose readings! In fact this morning my fasting was 179. This last week I've been 140-150 everytime I test. I just don't get it! I've been diabetic for 12 years, everytime I LC my sugars drop fast I don't get it! Only thing different is I had a baby. Not breastfeeding. Anyone have any answers?? Thanks Edit: Meds: Metformin 1,000 mg 2x daily & Januvia 100 Exercise by taking care of baby & walks daily around neighborhood (extremely hilly) Last edited by NikiTTC; 04-27-2012 at 09:00 AM.. Hi!! I don't have any answers, just more questions. I am a mom to a type 1 diabetic so forgive me for the naivety. When you say you are eating 20-30 carbs------what carbs are you eating? I know that my DD sees higher blood sugars after eating certain types of food. Each person will react differently to each food they eat. We have DD testing her blood sugar all the time, though. She gets a gazillion strips for her meter because she is a type 1, so we can do that! I know that some docs don't want their patients to even test their blood sugar, let alone before/after every meal. When she eats straight fruit, which we have told her NOT to do but is impossible with her because she loves everything sweet!, her blood sugar numbers skyrocket. They also react to corn products and especially fast foods. I know those are no-no foods on a low carb diet, but she is only 11 and it is hard to cut them out completely. We compromise with her diet by limited those foods. She is much lower carb now than she was a year ago at diagnosis. She eats more eggs and cheese and meats, less take out pizza, noodles, and french fries, than ever before.
Anyhow, I am sure that someone that actually has type 2 will chime in, just thought I would get this thread started.

Oh, and as someone who is experiencing hormone *ell myself, I believe that those are the cause of your problems. Insulin is a hormone as well. I blame my weight on my hormone imbalance. I have blood sugar issues, low thyroid, unbalanced sex hormones as well as a bunch of other fun things. I am NOT a doctor, but do know that the hormones get out of balance after giving birth (have 4 kids myself and love them dearly!) and will take some time to get back into balance. It may be that you just have to give it time to get in to balance. I wish you all the best!!! Oh, and the hormone *ell I have now is soooo worth it. My kids are the best!!!

Thanks
Hi! Thanks for the response. The carbs I eat come from things like veggies (avo) 10 carbs come from low carb tortilla. I eat eggs & bacon, chicken, chicken wings, steaks, burger no bun, cheesesteak no bun, deciles eggs, coffee with Splenda & cream, peel & eat shrimp, mozzarella marinated in oil, pepperoni. Those are all things I've been enjoying. It must be post baby hormones! I see the endocrinologist next week, I'll update what he says!

That is something to ask him. The baby hormones. You are still in that state of flux. How often do you test your blood sugar? The tortillas could raise the blood sugar. I know that corn products raise my DD's. We try to avoid those types of things for her, but if she has some we do give her more insulin to get her numbers to go down.
