Insulin ?

Hi all! Long time low-carber here with a few questions about insulin. I went in for testing for other things, and my doc also ran the following tests. I read a lot about high insulin but I'm completely ignorant about what is a "good" insulin reading. Is it possible to be too low? And at what level would that be?? I guess I'm confused largely about the range because it starts at zero...would there ever be a time where NO insulin is an acceptable state??

Thanks for any guidance complete newbie here with this stuff !

Fasting Insulin: <2.0 (0.0 - 29.1)
Glucose: 78 (65-99)
C-Peptide: 1.0 (1.1 - 5.0)

The ranges you put after the value you have are what is considered "normal" by the lab that did the work.

When I was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago, my free insulin was at 38 - more than twice normal according to my doctor. The Eades (of Protein Power) recommend insulin levels no higher than 5, so take that as you will. And yes, it's possible to have zero insulin in your body at any given time. If you haven't eaten any carbs recently and your liver is not performing gluconeogenesis on protein, you won't need the insulin right then.

Your fasting glucose is normal. I'm jealous.

Your C-peptide is actually a little low, but I'm not sure how C-peptide works or what makes it go up or down, so for that, I'd talk to your doctor. It's close enough to normal that you probably don't have to worry about it, though.

Thanks for the feedback Griffen! We have a family history of both Type 1 & 2 so this seems to be my "baseline" for testing!
