New Diabetes Resource Site - Feedback Requested

Hey all,

Just wanted to let everyone know about a new resource site, www.DiabetesActNow.org and get your feedback. The site is strictly a non-profit resource to help educate people about diabetes and pro actively manage their diabetes. It features some great videos on diverse topics, recipes, questions and answers, as well as some useful tools. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions! I also included some information about the groups behind the site below. Thanks!

The Diabetes Care Coalition was a first-of-its-kind alliance of diverse nonprofit organizations and corporations committed to helping control diabetes and prevent its deadly complications. The Diabetes Care Coalition united, for the first time, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF), later joined by the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) and National Council of La Raza (NCLR), in a common effort to battle diabetes through innovative public awareness messaging. In 2006, The Advertising Council, working with the Coalition, sought to bring the power of national reach to the Coalition’s public awareness campaign through a phase one launch in 2007. As the Ad Council campaign enters its phase two launch, ADA is pleased to continue to support the campaign with the ongoing participation of AADE and NCLR and thanks all of the past corporate members for their contributions, which continue to fund this important initiative in 2009.

Stringer,
I doubt you'll come back and check on your thread since it is your only post and you apparently joined this board just to make this post. But I nevertheless will give you feedback.

I like the way information is presented. The latest animation and videos are great ways to get information to the masses today. The huge downside is that it seems to contain all of the same bad dietary information (of course it is sponsored by the ADA among others). For instance....the whole "negative egg" stuff has been proven wrong in many recent studies. The protein, nutrients and other good stuff in the yolk far outweigh the risk of the cholesterol. And as Dr. Atkins and Dr. Bernstein and others have shown, cholesterol numbers are probably more caused by high carbohydrate consumption (as advocated by the ADA), than they are by "cholesterol" in foods.

I for one, won't go back, unless the information is adjusted. Hope you truly wanted our feedback.

I agree with Marvin that whether you actually want feedback is questionable. I like the site's design in general and the videos are good. However, as Marvin said, it seems to contain the same bad dietary information as that spouted by the ADA and other entities. When, oh when, will people get it through their heads that every diabetic is different and carbohydrates are not good for all of us? There might be some 'good' carbs out there but for some of us, they're all bad. If you would hang around here awhile and pay attention to what diabetics, new and experienced, are saying you might learn something, too.

I really do appreciate the feedback from both. I have yet to hear any comments on that specific area of the site content, so this will be very valuable. Thanks for taking the time to look the site over! If anyone else also has a chance to take a look, I would love to hear any additional insights.

I looked at the site, but I didn't get as far as the others. I dislike having speakers connected to my computer. I don't want to hear all the beeps and dings ... and find them generally distracting. Therefore, I didn't like the flash-type approach of the site.

I've done a bit of web design ... and I've taught it as well. A basic rule of thumb is that one should design one's site for the slowest computer. Not everyone has or has access to high speed ... and therefore, the "video" approach precludes their visiting your site.

I prefer straight-forward, fact based information. There are plenty of sites that keep to the ADA and CDA party line ... and since that approach doesn't work for me ... I have no interest in pursuing yet another site with the same old information on it.

Sorry ... I'm sure that a lot of work has gone into the presentation of the site ... but it was wasted on me.

Just my two cents ...

Charles how much more specific does it have to be? Just re read the previous comments regarding ADA partyline content. You're barking up the wrong discussion boards here. Do you NOT know what LCing is all about?

I looked at all your pages er, videos and due to site content NOT in line with the general consensus on these boards which I happen to agree with, I will not recommend it, plain and simple.

Now if you'll read MY story (linked in my signature), you'll see why I feel this way.
