Pancreas failing

My Dad has diabetes and low carb has worked great for him. I took him to the doctor for a check-up, more tests, blah, blah, blah.

He goes to a GP and the doctor called Dad yesterday and referred him to an endocrinologist because his pancreas is failing.

I've tried to google/search but not getting a lot of info on this. Is this serious? I'll go to the appt with him but does anyone have any info?

i think he needs more information.
it makes sense to wait til the specialist sees him since the GP hasn't given any information other than a pretty general statement about a particular organ that has numerous functions, although mostly providing insulin.
maybe your dad just needed insulin to rest his pancreas. did he take a med that forced the pancreas to produce more? this is what some of the oral meds do and some see this as a mistake.

let us know what becomes of this.

Yes much more needed information is required at this point. Perhaps contact his GP and record how he arrived at the diagnosis? Ask what tests he based it on if utilized.

Go with him to the endo also and has a hands on relationship to see what his treatment theory and path he recommends.

And finally report here what transpires, there's a huge body of knowledge here on these forums ready to assist.

Wishing the best to the 2 of you!

He finally got an appt but its not til 12/7. Hopefully, I'll be able to go with him. I think Dad is insulin resistant. He's done extremely well on low carb, and now all of a sudden his readings are all above 160.

Thanks for the help and hopefully, I'll have more info in Dec.

It may be a good idea for him to steadily monitor his levels in the interim for changes?
