Diet and Exercise Only for Control?
Just curious do you know anyone when diagnosed "full blown T2 diabetic" to control with diet and exercise alone currently? And if so how long was it sucessful without meds? Any other details pertaining to diet/exercise regimens would be appreciated.

My doc told me today that he thinks I can control with just LC when I get rid of some more weight. Not sure I would want to give up metformin, but I don't like taking meds in general... --bill |

So far I have, I basically follow a low glycemic, low carb diet and try to exercise at least 30 minutes every day, and recently have started some light weight exercises. I was diagnosed 12/07. I lost 45 lbs initially and would like to lose at least 45 more, but the weight loss has stalled for now.

I was diagnosed in 2000 and managed with diet and exercise alone for almost five years. It wasn't easy and I had to remain consistently vigilant but it worked.

Thanks for the replies, and I have perused Griffin's posts, what a amazing man!
Over the years, I've followed many newly diagnosed T2 diabetics courtesy of my health care friends/network and was saddened to see this debilitating disease take over time and time again. It is so refreshing and enlightening to see and hear of some many success stories on these boards. There is a light at the end of the tunnel Congratulations to all in whatever goal you persue! |

I was dx prediabetic 7 years ago and started VLC and 1 hour of jogging or power walking daily. In July my Dr appt showed I am now full blown type2. Like to think I put it off for 7 years but disappointed that even VLC + exercise is no longer holding my BGL's where they need to be. Putting off meds for as long as possible.

Your 7 yr. effort is fantastic, that is time you've earned staying healthy! There IS a place for meds AFAIC, and lifestyle changes/exercise not working, the traditional route is an option to pursue
Perhaps DO continue LC and exercise though? |

Just read your intro from the link in your post. Wow you've done great - very inspirational. Makes me even sadder that my best efforts have not been enough but don't worry I'm staying VLC and continuing my daily jogs whatever the future may bring.
My Dr suspects I may have type 1.5 rather than standard type2 so that may be part of the problem. Whatever I'm happy, relatively healthy, have a wonderful family - it's all good! |

Got to this fine site and click on the "diagnosing diabetes" tab and then on the "MODY - It's Not Type 1 and Not Type 2, but Something Else."
The best resource regarding type 1.5 I have found!!!!! Blood Sugar 101 |

Key to life you're already accomplishing, happiness, good health, and a great family. Author of Blood Sugar 101 addresses D 1.5 quite well. She has had excellent success for many years maintaining great BS levels. Peruse her fine site for some direction and advice. |
