Thoughts Please
I have been hypoglycemic for 30 plus years and have started to display symptoms of diabetes. I took some blood glucose numbers last night and this is what I came up with.
1 hour after meal 141 2 hours 178 3 hours 146 FBS- 111 They are not horrible, but I have been low-carbing for 2 months and when I was off the wagon this whole last year I had headaches, blurred Vision and my feet hurt so bad that it was difficult to walk, among other problems,so those numbers very well could have been higher before I returned to low-carb. From what I have read a doctor will not do much with those kinds of numbers. Any thoughts? Jeanie

I think it is a better tact to take the ship in your own hands immediately. Your LC'ing is in the right direction. Perhaps consider some type of exercise program if possible? Do look into what MD's recommend though as "borderline" introduces many management strategies, some are very aggressive or proactive as some may say, with usually Metformin prescribed.
I'm a little concerned with your physical symptoms as of late. These may be indicative of other problems unrelated to diabetes specifically the headaches. Do obtain a second opinion if needed. |

Jeanie, what food did you have prior to those numbers? Those are pretty high numbers for a meal that was low carb - not saying it isn't possible, it is! Just an observation.
![]() My Dr would immediately do something with those numbers. Although she uses numbers that are too high, she says that a 2 hour postprandial number should be under 140. Personally, I think it should be under 115 but that's a real effort for a lot of people. At any rate, those numbers are high enough to warrant medical attention if you find a physician who is up to date on things. If we can help in any way, please let us know. ![]()

Might I subjest going to your Dr. as soon as possible. Tell hem you have been on a low
carb diet the last 2 months and what your BS numbers are ect. See if he will atleast run a A1C test. This gives an indication of your average bg numbers over the last 3 months. If you do have prediabetes or diabetes he will probably start you on Metforman. Metforman almost never causes weight gain in fact it encourages a small weight loss in most people. |

And if you MD won't order the A1C test, you can do it at home for $30 with results in 5 min. which are 99.5% accurate. I suspect some labs even use this system as the Medicare compensation per test is listed in the mfr. data. Your 2 tests with the kit is dated for only 1 yr. though. So the 10 test kits on ebay is not ideal for a single user.

A1C test is in order
I agree that getting an A1C test would be a prudent next step. And, reading one of Dr. Bernstein's books - or re-reading it if it has been a while since you did.
For any more advice, we'd need to know what you're eating. Best wishes, Amy |
