I might be able to get off meds
This morning my BG was 68 (a tad too low). I've only been on Metaformin for 2 weeks when my BG skyrocketed. I've been eating low carb and started exercising. I'm thinking if I keep up the low carb / exercise plan, I might be able to get off of meds. I'm thinking about making my drs. appt. on Friday.

It would be wonderful if you can do this with diet/exercise only. However, I do want to caution you that one tad low FBG isn't enough to give up the medication. It could be explained by a lot of things. But wow, wouldn't that be marvelous if you could? I did it with diet and exercise only for almost 5 years and am trying to get back to that point. It doesn't look as though I'm going to make it but I'm plugging away at it.

This morning my BG was 68, then 114, then 134 in afternoon. I just feel closer to normal now. I probably won't even ask about getting off meds until I lose weight.

texastigerlily,
You might have a little way to go, but if you keep with a low glycemic diet and exercise plan you will do it. I have had several clients get off meds this way. Once you take the excess weight off you're insulin levels should normalize. As you reach your goal you won't need to be as strict on the diet as long as you keep the weight off and continue the exercise...at least 3 times a week. You'll get better results from doing both cardio and resistance training. Keep the sessions to no longer than 30 minutes of each. Try for higher intensity rather than longer sessions. |
