Love Apples
Hi everyone! New here. Type2. Was diagnosed 5/08 after a few mos. of insulin resistance. I take metformin 1000mgs. a day.
Anyway, I was wondering if any of you know why a granny smith apple would spike my bs to 480? I experimented with it 3 times and readings were from 360-480? |

What are your readings BEFORE you eat the apples?

I eat a quarter of a granny smith apple or half of a small one and it doesn't spike my sugar. But if I ate the whole apple it probably would. Most fruit for me causes a spike but not a large one. I'm prediabetic right now. Trying to keep it under control with diet and supplements.

I only tried this once ... had what I thought was a "small" apple with my lunch ... it was probably a "medium" apple. My blood sugar spiked to 14 [252] ...
I too am very new to being a diabetic ... diagnosed on 05/12/09 ... |

Don't think I've found any fruit that doesn't spike my blood sugar, which is why I don't really like this time of year. I also have a problem with moderation when it comes to berries (which are the better choice for low carb).
Good luck with learning which foods you can eat and which affect your blood sugar. It is very individual. Sheryl |

Fruit is bothering me right now. I don't really care for fruit, except that I love blueberries, cherries, peaches, and watermelon. But I know the importance of staying away from it. It's just that I bought blueberries and cherries for my husband (who also eats a banana every day) and I want some cherries so bad...I also want my sugar to return to normal...

I feel everyone's pain. I had half a grapefruit the other day because I thought I'd die without some fruit. Grapefruit's supposed to have the lowest glycemic index of any fruit (tied with cherries) but it spiked my fasting bs up to about 10 or 15 above what it usually is.
