Statins - Can you just stop them?

I have been taking Lipitor for years. I thought I was taking them for improved health. I obviously believed the "hype".

For those that stopped taking them.....did you need to be weaned or can you just stop?

I'm not due for my next check-up until March. Should I just wait and talk to my doctor then?

No. You need to taper off very slowly and under a doctors supervision.
If you want off now, talk to your doctor about it. There is a specific dosage reduction protocol (for lack of a better way to put it) to make sure you don't have serious complications.

PS: I think it took my mom 6 months to taper off of them completely.

Thank you Dottie. I think I'll wait til my next appt. then. In the mean time I need to collect pertinent info (ammo) to be prepared. I doubt she'll be on board with my decision.
