I am going to follow your post since my numbers are similar. The thing with the LC diet and the recommended amount of fat. Isn't fat bad for your cholesterol? I guess it is certain fats. Again with the LC way of what causes the high cholesterol? What should we avoid?

Generaly I believe the ratio of HDL to LDL is more inportant than just looking at total chlosterol. A low carb diet may not lower your chlosterol but it will almost always change
the ratio of HDL to LDL for the good as well as lower your triglecerides which helps your
heart health. Unfortunitly most DR's still just look at that total chlosterol number and may freak out if your total chlosterol goes up some even if it was your HDL going higher
that caused the higher total number.

All I know is my wife eats high carb crap all day long everyday and she maintains healthy weight and her cholesterol numbers are perfect. She just had hers done last week and every number was spot on. I've been low carbing for about ten years and mine are high in every category but the good one. I think genetics plays a significant role in it...

You may want to look at using some fish oil ( omega 3) it tends to lower triglecerides and
raise HDL. I also find that when I am eating a lot of saturated fat my HDL to LDL ratio gets better. Some people also get a little help from taking a 1000mg capsule of cinamon
every day and in this case taking more doesn't seem to help more.

ilikecarbs, you got it right, genetics play a major part in our cholesterol levels, just as it does with most health issues. High cholesterol and diabetes is in my family, so I'm on a statin and I watch my carb intake, and I've been able to bring all my numbers to normal. But it isn't easy. I especially miss pasta, pancakes, cereal, potatoes and bagels.
