Change in high cholesterol when LCing?


My current state of being is what doctors call "moderately obese" and what I call "need to lose 80 pounds." The inherited high cholesterol has kicked in (thanks, Mom!) as per my last two blood tests (two and three years ago, respectively) and I was informed that I was menopausal, so get off the birth control pills, about three weeks ago. I am worried about this, since it has taken away that estrogen protection against high cholesterol. LC is the only form of eating that has ever caused me to lose weight, but it is still very slow for me, even though my carbs are normally under 10. Of course, being under 5 feet and female doesn't help. I've been stuck at 180 for the past two weeks and I am beginning to despair, but what I'd really like to know is, did going LC or adding more fat raise the bad cholesterol test levels for anyone? My plan is to LC for the rest of 2013 and then schedule a physical in January. I hope this question wasn't answered somewhere else. Thanks.

There are studies that show that a good low carb diet can lower cholesterol, and many people have posted that that is there experience. Dietary fat doesn't raise cholesterol. Dietary fat plus carbohydrates raises cholesterol.
