How do my Cholesterol numbers look?

Hi.....I just had my first real complete Cholesterol test and my doctor said it looked good.....just wondered what you all thought too.

I am a 45 year old female and have been doing strict low carb for 6 months.

Total 170

HDL 59

LDL 100

Triglycerides 56

Total/HDL Ratio 2.9

They look good so far! I would want the HDL to go up a little more. I think it is greater than 60 is optimal.

I think the most important # is the triglycerides and 56 is fabulous. I must have different reference ranges for the other numbers.... what are yours? Keep up the good work!!

All I know is I've been told under 200 is good. Mine was 212 about 3 years ago when I had it tested. I'm going to the doctor first of April to have my tests run. I hope it's down under 200! HC runs in my family so hoping w/ the help of semi LC and losing weight it will have dropped some!

The total number isn't really helpful. The HDL, LDL, and triglyceride numbers are what matter more, and even then, the breakdown of LDL is crucial (there is good and bad LDL too, and a high fat, moderate protein, low carb diet can raise the good LDL and lower the bad LDL).

Over 200 can be fine, or it can be not fine.

yup, the total is useless and thats what most doctors go by and put the fear in you to get you on those awful drugs-----
